November 21, 201213 yr Gabbert on IR, done for season. Will undergo left shoulder surgery Monday. Geno Barkley.
December 6, 201213 yr Bears are being bamboozled with injuries. Depleted already crappy oline, urlacher out, jennings/bennett/hester with concussion. Just have to hope we can beat one of minn, det or gb (and beat arizona) to get to 10 wins and start getting healthy. Even though urlacher wasn't playing at a high level, he is a tremendous loss.. especially since there is absolutely no backup plan. Completely different team without him over his career. I think this is the end of the urlacher era. My all time favorite player and future 1st ballot hof'er. I get the sneaking suspicion mclellan will be shifted to mlb in the offseason.. but who knows
December 14, 201213 yr Apparently one of the Eagles owners is named Jeffrey Lurie? Brad Nessler just blew my mind, until I looked up at my TV and saw someone pictured who isn't a total fat piece of poo.
December 14, 201213 yr I don't think they will but they're in it. Roger Gooddell might expand the playoffs to 8 teams. I don't like that.
December 14, 201213 yr Wouldn't make a difference. Of the 4 major NA sports, football is the one where the better team wins most often. Those teams will never win the Superbowl.

December 14, 201213 yr You think a team that's .500 or less is going to threaten a team like the Patriots, Texans, or Broncos?
December 14, 201213 yr You think a team that's .500 or less is going to threaten a team like the Patriots, Texans, or Broncos? See 2012 playoffs when Tebow boned the Steelers.
December 14, 201213 yr You think a team that's .500 or less is going to threaten a team like the Patriots, Texans, or Broncos? See 2012 playoffs when Tebow boned the Steelers. And yet somehow they didn't make it much further...
December 14, 201213 yr Wouldn't make a difference. Of the 4 major NA sports, football is the one where the better team wins most often. Those teams will never win the Superbowl. That's the NBA. It happens in the NFL. The very team we're talking about went to two straight AFC Championship games when no one expected them to make the playoffs. The Giants won two Super Bowls when no one expected them to do anything.
December 14, 201213 yr From what I've read and seen, ash is right -- the NBA is the league where the best teams are mist likely to win both individual games and championships.
December 14, 201213 yr Championships yes, but you definitely see more upsets in the NBA. Like the Heat just recently losing to the Wizards. The point being that in the regular season in the NFL a loss is much more significant and there's rarely ever a time for seriously losing to lesser teams (unless we're talking about bench time and week 16/17).

There are over 5 times as many games in the NBA. If you look at the vegas spreads, NBA teams are usually bigger favorites. And I don't even know what your second paragraph is saying?
December 14, 201213 yr Second paragraph -- an NFL team goes into a game knowing that it is 1 of 16 games they are playing. An NBA team goes into a game knowing that it's 1 of 82 games they are playing. It's easier to lose sight of 1/82nd of your season. An upset in the NFL is much less common. I think you're mistaking the fact that the NFL is a much more competitive league than the NBA. The top teams win in the NBA because it's got a bad concentration of talent among a small amount of teams, and generally always has been like that. The NFL is not like that.
December 14, 201213 yr You think a team that's .500 or less is going to threaten a team like the Patriots, Texans, or Broncos? I was disagreeing with the "football is the one where the better team wins most often" line; it's definitely basketball.

That's one regular season game. That happens in the NFL way more often and the sample size is actually smaller. The NFL has better parity. Example, the Cardinals beat the Patriots this year. Also, the NBA playoffs is a 7-game series. NFL is a one-game crapshoot. Anything can happen in one game as has been proven. The best team doesn't always win in the NFL; the best team just about always win in the NBA.
December 14, 201213 yr Okay so you just said it yourself? The NFL has better parity. There's more competition. In the NBA, there isn't. In the NBA, the talent is so concentrated that the better team is winning because of the drop-off in talent. They're winning because the other team is so much worse. That's why teams 5-8 don't win NBA titles. Not because the lesser teams can't win. In the NFL, there's nothing that stops the #123 teams from making it to the Superbowl, despite having parity. Adding an extra playoff team wont do anything about that.

Adding an extra playoff team wont do anything about that. A bad team could beat a 1, 2, 3 seed any given Sunday and you'd have really mediocre teams going deep into the playoffs. This could happen in the NFL playoffs because it's one game. Elite teams rarely get knocked out in the NBA playoffs because it's a 7-game series. The probability of a mediocre team reaching the Super Bowl would certainly be way higher than a mediocre NBA team getting to the finals if the NFL decided to add more playoff teams. There are upsets, as it is, in the NFL playoffs every year. NBA playoffs? Rarely ever.
