"I apologize to the fans, to my teammates and to the Oakland A's," Colon said in a statement released by the players' association. "I accept responsibility for my actions and I will serve my suspension as required by the joint drug program."

Good ol' generic statements.

And this is why the punishment needs to be more severe. They don't give a sh*t.

There needs to be some serious financial repercussions. They should have to pay a fine of something like 50 percent of the current year's salary.

And the best part is colon would have gotten another 250,000 in bonuses for making Thursdays start. He already collected 900,000 in bonuses this year and 1.53 of the 2 million dollar base salary. He only forfeits the remainder of the base salary and any potential future bonuses obviously.

It's like they announce it now on purpose knowing he's due the bonus.

I don't really know how these things go down, but that's probably exactly what they did. when the Melky news broke the other day I read in a few separate articles that the fact he'd failed a test was known days/weeks before he was suspended.

And how do you think the MLBPA would react to that one?

Obviously not favorably at all. The player's union is the greatest impediment toward improving the game.

Rumors are swirling that either Fielder or Verlander failed a drug test.

I kind of hope one or both of them does. Having a high profile guy get busted might really motivate MLB to fix this.
