Johnson, Buehrle, Reyes, Buck, Bonifacio to Toronto

Championship level talent.

Yunel Escobar - might trade for something, as is he is the low end of a championship team

Adeiny Hechavarria, Henderson Alvarez, Anthony DeSclafani, and Justin Nicolino could develop into very good players

Jake Marisnick - probably not, but you never know

Jeff Mathis - nope

I don't understand how Marisnick is a notch below the others? He's the best prospect we got back in the trade...

I am skeptical on all of them, but especially Marisnick. When a 21 year old player gets that kind of praise and then is said to be "at least" 2 years away, i consider that to mean there is nothing to it.

I've always wanted Billy Beane especially after seeing "Moneyball"

Too much information, dude.

And you know that was Brad Pitt, not the real Billy Beane, right?

Also, it wasn't the gay Billy Beane.

LOL. So you are going to make Wikipedia make your point for you. In lieu of you actually constructing an argument, I think that many people would actually see those bullet points as negatives, not positives.

Yeah, tell me what you disagree with?

Everything with division alignment/playoff/season schedule structure has been gradually getting worse.

His league expansion/relocation (Montreal situation, Tampa is a mess).

Using ASG to determine home field advantage is dumb

Retiring Jackie Robinson's number league wide is dumb when players seem to want to wear it to honor him

His stance on instant replay has been terrible--he should get little credit for home runs and fair/foul when the game needs more

He was blindsided by the steroid era and not hard enough on current users

What am I missing?

You can add the A's stadium situation and his general " who gives a f***, I'm in no hurry" attitude towards it.

There isn't one player the Marlins got in return in the trade that I'm thrilled about. I'm ambivalent toward Escobar because he's a meh-ish player but his contract his pretty reasonable (the value is probably right).

I'm very skeptical of the young talent, but I think that if any of them amount to anything it will be Marisnick.

Yep, you would never want to be optimistic about your acquired players.

That's several levels beyond optimism. Saying that they're championship caliber suggests either that Beinfest is a dumbass or that he's deliberately trying to insult the intelligence of Marlins fans.

AlvarezPerez, Hechevarria and Mathis all have their mlb.com portrait updated to wearing a Marlins hat.

Yunel Escobar does not.

Possibly further proof the FO is planning on flipping him soon?

I don't think they have any control over that stuff

Or maybe he's just bad with public relations? Not sure which of those I'd prefer it to be, as they all inevitably demonstrate incompetence, anyway.

I just realized maybe Beinfest is the best amongst the 3 between (Loria, Samson and Beinfest) dealing with the media. During the Redmond press conference it was Beinfest and Hill. And now it was Beinfest again taking all the questions and addressing the media about the trade..

The trade almost fell apart because Miami wanted Mathis for Buck and Toronto's GM was reluctant to trading Mathis.

Is this for real?

I mean, Mathis is a valuable back up as far as defense goes, but really?

Yep, Mike Cormack @MikeCormack

Hmmmm: Anthopoulos just said on PTS deal with #marlins almost fell apart over reluctance to part with Jeff Mathis for John Buck.

Weird.

"We've got a chance to get Reyes, Buehrle, Johnson and Bonifacio from the Fish for Escobar, Hechavarria, Nicolino, DeSclafani, Marisnick and Alvarez."

"Oh, that's great! Let's do it!"

"Also, they want to throw in John Buck for Mathis."

"... f*** this sh*t."

Don't forget Anderson Perez.

Dibs on Anderson Perez for adopt a marlin.

Championship-caliber talent, right there.
