February 9, 201313 yr Did anyone on the board bother going? I went, bumped into three other board members too. It's their business if they want to admit they were there however. There was a decent crowd, but not as good as last year. Better for the fans, but you can tell the buzz was gone. The herald was interviewing people fishing for quotes against the team. Can't wait to see how my words were twisted. And out of all the players, Silvero and "Anderson Perez" were dicks. The other 20+ I met were cool as hell, those two must have been hanging out getting tips on being jackasses from Hanley Ramirez.
February 10, 201313 yr I would be a dick too if people didn't know my name. Actually...people know my name and I already am a dick so just imagine.
February 10, 201313 yr Author i saw video on marlins site of meeting with season ticket holder any of you want to it?
February 10, 201313 yr Looking at the pictures, it looks like the attendance was approximately 5 people, maybe? I read about 1,000 fans showed up.
February 10, 201313 yr Looking at the pictures, it looks like the attendance was approximately 5 people, maybe? I read about 1,000 fans showed up.Those fans that last year were told their support was no longer wanted or needed found better things to do. I cleaned out my sock drawer. But we did get Opening Day tix online. That may be the only game we go to this year, and only because I have never missed a Home Opener. But I gotta say....The pics I have seen of the "event" are hilarious.

February 10, 201313 yr I won't go to another game. I won't give those bastards another thin dime of money. I really hope MLB pulls all revenue-sharing from the Marlins. If all the money dries up, they'll sell.

That's not why so few people showed up.Yes it is. It's the reason BroncoBob didn't show up. If he doesn't show up, that's all that matters because he's a better fan than you anyway, Mr. Irrelevant.
February 10, 201313 yr What did silvero and "Anderson Perez" do to you? Lol I told them in Spanish my nephew didn't speak Spanish, and my Spanish was bad.... They made a joke to each other and kept looking at each other speaking in Spanish lauging the whole time. I understood enough Spanish to know a bit of what they said, but not all. The long and short of it was they realized we couldn't understand all, so they used the language barrier to talk about us behind our backs so to speak. If you've lived in Miami, you know the comments- the general disdain for you once they realize "you don't speak Spanish?" That was followed by the joke im going to keep private. If you've been here long enough and want to PM me for it ill let you know.

February 10, 201313 yr Jeffrey Loria is going to find out the hard way that he can't keep treating fans like they are garbage. I see one sellout this year......Opening Day.
February 10, 201313 yr - Jeffrey Loria knows exactly what he's doing. - He's not going to learn a lesson. - He doesn't give a shit about the fans. - The only way things will ever be right is when he is no longer owner. Those are four key points you need to understand.

If I was Loria, I would let the people I hired to make baseball decisions, rather than play GM.

February 11, 201313 yr The crowd was a decent crowd around 11 or 12, but once it hit 1PM most people had been there for 2 or 3 hours and left. It was dead at 2PM inside, and still kind of busy outside.

I don't have a problem getting rid of most of the guys they did. My issue is that they did not make the effort in an attempt to actually improve the team. None of the money saved was put back into the product and no mention was made of future plans to do so. None of the players attained in the deal are exciting. Sure there's a few of them that might, given the right alignment of the planet and the stars, become something more than mediocre. Then you managed to poison the well that you needed so sign the best young player this franchise has had since Miguel Cabrera. All in all, the trade was an overreaction to last year's debacle and in the end, doesn't seem to have accomplished anything positive. Yeah, sure, there's a few people who think its fun to watch young players suck and fail, but most do not.
February 11, 201313 yr Did '...' lose his password? :lol But, your suspicion is justified. I agree with every word of bristud's post. - - - - - - Contrary to what Magnus says, some of the money was put back into the product. Not much, but some. Which is not hard to understand, last year's loss was 40 mill, according to the Marlins. I made my own estimate of how bad the year was -- a loss a little less than 40 -- 15 to 30 IIRC. But, any of those numbers are horrible. Attendance was 2.2, they estimated 2.7 before the season started. They estimate significantly less than 2.2 for this year, so there just isn't a big pot of potential revenue lying around to be spent. The 40-45 mill payroll is what they expect attendance to cover. Attendance goes up, they'll spend more. Hopefully more wisely. If they do better than expected over the next 2-3 years, get revenue back up and then blow it again, even I will abandon any support of Loria, et al.
