April 6, 201313 yr Poptart how where you able to distance yourself from the franchise ? I tried doing that the last couple of months, but just couldn't do it. I mean I still get that sinking feeling in my stomach when I watch the games, and can't shake being into the team. I'm asking an honest question, because I want to "quit them" as they said in Brokeback Mountain, but I just can't do it. It sure would be better for my blood pressure :haha the re-branding definitely made it easy. I don't look at those uniforms and think "this is the team I've rooted for for years" being a gambler helps, too. I'm rooting for like 3 different teams every day.Yet you still post on a Marlins board. Odd. Because we da, we da best.

April 6, 201313 yr I know he doesn't have protection in the line up and that it is very, very early in the season, but with the exception of his last at bat (he hit a nice double) Stanton has looked totaly lost at the plate in the first four games. He needs to significantly improve and consistantly put up big power numbers while cutting back on strikeouts before the Marlins will be willing to offer him the huge contract needed to keep him here long term. By the same token, if he doesn't prove himself this year or next, no team will be willing to offer the kind of return everyone is speculating the Marlins should ask for him. Hopefully he will get it turned around, and whether we keep him or trade him, the Marlins will benefit either way by having one of the greatest power hitters baseball has ever seen, or by getting a ton of top prospects for him.
April 6, 201313 yr Warning - this may be a bit too radical for some fans of South Florida Baseball!!! Humor Thinking outside of the diamond, something occurred to me that may be radical enough to actually fix the Miami problem with baseball. I have enjoyed baseball in Miami since the 1950's, watching the original Miami Marlins in their little downtown stadium. Having a new stadium and a major league franchise was hopefully the solution to the woes that we suffer in south Florida baseball, no need to elaborate. Back to my epiphany. Due to my focus on work over the recent months, I have not kept up with the off season maneuvers of the Miami Marlins franchise. It took two games before the work brakes slowed me enough to notice that the Marlins had played and lost both games. Now I needed to wake up and see my team in action. To my surprise, the franchise was again stripped of many key players. Then the radical thinking kicked in. Why not, yes, why not kick the cheap franchise out of the city and invite the Mets franchise to Miami, with an understanding that they buy back our favorite past and present players (Stanton of course). The Marlin franchise cares only about the money - they would sell! Miami is a great place to live. The New York players may find it refreshing to be in sunny south Florida. We have a beautiful, brand new stadium. We have 100,000 Mets fans already living here. The rest of us baseball enthusiasts simply want a franchise that is committed to win. Miami Mets rolls off the tongue with ease. We would fill the stadium to capacity every game. Why not force the suicide squeeze in this needed moment. Yes, radical. Yes, crazy. Maybe the solution to our South Florida Baseball woes. Original Marlin Fan Just musing a bit.

April 7, 201313 yr I don't get why people think Selig will ever block a trade. He never has, and he's a former owner himself. I really don't think there is a consensus in the organization as to what they want to do with Stanton. My guess is that at some point the team will offer him some kind of extension, he will turn it down, and then they will trade him. This could happen any time in the next 18 months. Especially considering Selig and Loria are cut from the same cloth. Selig managed the Brewers about the exact same way Loria has managed the Marlins. He became extremely rich while the franchise itself was ran on a shoestring. He stopped doing any maintenance to County Stadium so he could claim it was dilapidated and force the Milwaukee residents to build him that monstrosity known as MIller Park.
April 7, 201313 yr So Loria stopped doing maintenance on Sun Life to force the Marlins residents to build Marlins Park? Shoot.
April 7, 201313 yr Author So Loria stopped doing maintenance on Sun Life to force the Marlins residents to build Marlins Park? Shoot. I thought the Dolphins owned Sun Life ?

April 7, 201313 yr So Loria stopped doing maintenance on Sun Life to force the Marlins residents to build Marlins Park? Shoot. Never said he did.
April 7, 201313 yr wasn't this a thread about how we are supposed to trade Stanton for every player in the rangers organization? including L. Martin, olt, and there amazing Short stop?
April 8, 201313 yr So Loria stopped doing maintenance on Sun Life to force the Marlins residents to build Marlins Park? Shoot. I thought the Dolphins owned Sun Life ? They do. BR is being facetious. Facetious? I must be missing something. I thought Spike made a valid observation on the way Selig dealt with his own franchise...it seemed a point to consider though we all know each situation is unique and obviously Loria had no say in what condition Joe Robbie Stadium was in. As a way of following up on his opinion that Selig and Loria are cut from the same cloth the analogy rings true. . The reply by your moderator seemed more trollish than facetious. imo.
April 8, 201313 yr I think his point was that both Selig and Loria used the 'our stadium sucks, we can't make money' excuse to get taxpayers to foot the bill. But even after that the team is still operated on a cheap budget.
April 8, 201313 yr So Loria stopped doing maintenance on Sun Life to force the Marlins residents to build Marlins Park? Shoot. Never said he did. You did say exact same way, so, y'know, just wanted to be Erick for a minute. Pierremvp - here's my rebuttal ^^
