Do we still have a shot at the wildcard?

The mere thought of moving Morrison back into the outfield will give me nightmares for a week, don't be so evil!

I've liked what I've seen from LoMo so far, he's walking at 10.7%, OBP at 365, OPSing at 822 to just scratch the surface of his stats.

He was top 30 in MLB with BB rate last week, but has dropped quite a bit since then. He's not swinging at that many pitches outside of the strike zone (41st in MLB in this stat) and those around him are seeing more pitches in the strike zone.

LoMo is actually 19th in all of MLB in zone % - he just isn't getting that much to hit either. He is making high contact outside of the strike zone though when he does swing and doesn't appear like he's having good success with 4 seam fastballs. He's posting some good contact rates and a higher BABIP then 2011/2012 - maybe his average will come down, who knows. He's also posting the lowest K % of his career at 15.7%. This is still a rather limited sample size as he missed the start of the season. We need to see more!

I'm going to predict that some more power is going to come from him, but he faces the same kind of issue as Stanton (to a lesser degree) in that there's much easier people to pitch to behind him. We all know about the s*it-show at #5 recently - Solano sees 49% in the zone when LoMo sees 40% and Stanton 36%. Surprised about opposition pitching choices here?

While a power bat at 1B might be nice, I don't think its a high enough priority to package away any prospects. There are just bigger organizational needs at C, 2B and 3B right now.

I also wouldn't be surprised if Yelich ended up at 1B in the future.

Anyone who thinks we need to address 1B as an issue is retarded.

I think the phrase is "We have bigger fish to fry". First base is like the last of our worries.

Not really, unless you view Lomo as a long term answer at 1b. If not, like me, we have no one behind him. We could use a more powerful bat in the lineup behind stanton. Lomo still can stay though and i wouldnt mind. We just need to find one place around the field that we can add a power bat to because besides stanton we dont really have 1.

i think we need a better 1b as well. Im just not a fan of Morrison there and with the outfield full we cant move him back out there. WE need a more powerful bat at 1b especially if we are going with yelich in LF and eventually Moran(who should be good but not a power hitter) at 3b. I would try to combine Morrison and a few prospects for a power bat at 1b.

I wish we would have landed Prince Fielder last offseason but of course the guy who played 162 games pretty much every year of his career was too fat.

He's still too fat and a major injury risk for a team that can't afford him. He probably would have been traded too.

I dont care if hes fat this is baseball not a body contest. He has never played fewer than 157 games and consistently gives you a huge power bat. He isnt the best 1b but his bat more than makes up for that and he is a more consistent power hitter that would be amazing in front of Stanton.

We could have afforded him that offseason but instead chose to sign heath bell and mark Buehrle and tried to get an older pujols. We could have spent that offseason and made it work but we picked the wrong players.

While this isn't my personal opinion, maybe the Marlins believe Dietrich will provide such a power threat? We'll see what kind of a shot he gets in 2014.

just going around the team:

MArisnick doesnt project to more than 20 or so homer.

Same with Yelich.

Morrison is never gonna be more than around 20.

Dietrich has nice power for a 2b but he is more of a 15 hr kinda guy.

Brantly has no power.

Hech has no power.

Moran doesnt project to be a huge power guy.

Maybe its eventually Ozuna who develops into a 30 hr guy but i just think we need 1 more guy.

They could have average power. Last year, #15 in MLB had 165 home runs.

Stanton + Ozuna: 65

Morrison + Moran + Dietrich + Yelich (15-20 each): 70

Brantley/Catcher + Hech: 10

That's 150 homers. Add in a few from the bench and they'd have decent, albeit not great power.

Stop calling other people retarded when you're probably one of the biggest retards on here.

Well first, he's capable if doing that. Second, you don't replace good young players like LoMo when they are productive and when you have a hole at 3-4 other positions. Idk if you have noticed, but today's game has power hitters all over the diamond. We can just as easily find power at 3B, where we actually have a need.

Idk why anyone would have a problem with LoMo as our long-term 1B. He might not be great at anything, but he's pretty good at everything.

Stop calling other people retarded when you're probably one of the biggest retards on here. Because I don't believe in wanting to lose for a draft pick? Please.

No, because of the loud-ass, terribly formed opinions you have and how ridiculously rude you are to random users for no apparent reason.

Any specific opinion you would like to reference?

And I didn't call any particular user retarded. I did say anyone who thinks 1B is an issue that needs to be addressed is retarded, which is true.

I like LoMo, I want to see him succeed and stick around for the long term. But unless he can kick the injury bug and sustain his production through 159 PA this year (unlikely), it's not out of the realm of possibility to consider moving on from him at some point.

And, "anyone who thinks 1B is an issue is retarded"? Give me a break.

Lomo is providing top-10 in the game type numbers for his position right now.

In a small sample size. It's not like anyone didn't, or doesn't, think he is capable of maintaining his current production. It shouldn't be a surprise...

Do you have a reason to think that a healthy Lomo wouldn't have a .280/.360/.450 type line, or better, through his prime years?

I didn't say that - I said he's got top 10 in the game type numbers for his position right now "in a small sample size." I'd like for him to sustain that, yes, but chances are, that won't be with us if we are indeed going to build around Stanton. Morrison is expendable, IMO.

If we do plan to move Yelich to 1B in the near future, then yes Morrison is expendable and may fetch us a decent return. But for now, I'd like to see if he keeps up his current pace and reevaluate our plans for him in the future after the season.

I would rather eventually move Stanton to 1b. Keep him in the lineup more.

Why not 3b? Bigger hole.

1b is an easier transition for an outfielder i feel. Plus less room for injuries.

Or catcher, even bigger hole.

Stanton should become owner so he could replace the biggest A-hole.
