5/20 Post Game

Featured Replies

Not only the Redmond move, but file that one away as one that we will want back two months from now.

It's not as if we're going to fall just short of a playoff spot.

I think Ozuna blew the game. All he had to do is get the ball in the air and we get that run.

I think Redmond blew the game. All he had to do was not be a moron and we would've had a much better shot to get out of the 6th inning.

Today was a team loss. Starts at the top with Redmond.

Redmond Season Recap:

Put guys on base on purpose.

Give up outs on purpose through bunts.

Bat baseball's worst player leadoff on purpose once or twice just to troll the baseball world.

Make the worst player in baseball the only guy to not get a day off.

What the hell is a bullpen?

So many fails tonigh. Ozuna, Salty, Redmond (duh). Fuck Salty though, twice he had runners on 3rd less than 2 out and he struck out twice.

I only watched the end of the game, but I did not realize Saltalamacchia had runners on 3rd with less than 2 out twice. This type of shit cannot happen. Horrible and senseless decision by Redmond, a couple of fly balls or even a double play by Ozuna and we have 2-3 more runs, Gwynn robbing Dietrich.

And all to the garbage Phillies who have owned us so far this year. Again.

I know Jake Diekmann has good stuff, but why is it that he always seems to come into a game against the Marlins with a mid-4 ERA and then proceeds to strike out batters left and right?

This is also one of the several times I can recall us having that fucking loser Papelbon on the ropes and letting him get away with it.

Sounds like this is a good game to have slept through. Looking at the box score, why was Hand even thought of in the sixth? Literally anyone else, Wolf, Dunn, Capps, Jeff Mathis would have been a better option.

Glad to see Red showing some emotion, though (watched the ejection) - how do you even call that a strike on ... well, anyone? Seems like a very frustrating game. From what it sounds like from you guys, leaving runners at third with less than two outs is what caused the loss more than anything. Sounds familiar. :|

The poet Mike Redmond...

"What the fuck is that shit!? That is fucking horseshit! What the fuck kind of call is that!?"

Later in the moment

"I can see! I can fucking see. I can see how *inaudible*"

Then he appears to say "Here's your fucking plate" as he kicks the dirt.

Followed by a "horseshit", with another "bullshit" thrown in their soonafter. Couldn''t hear until he told the ump he was "out of his goddamn mind".

Then the view is skewed, followed by Redmond saying what appears to me "you got *inaudible* showing you up at first. You got fucking AJ showing you up at third. You're fucking shit".

And that was the end of it. Mind you I am no lip reader, so please help me fix this to make it a full transcript of Red's rant, but this argument was too good not to try and decipher what was being said. The man simply has a way with words.

It was a nice tantrum but it's hard to get behind him in a game like this when he made so many managerial mistakes prior to the ejection.

The umpire was crazy bad, but Redmond's dumb decisions were just as damaging, especially the Tony Gwynn Jr thing.

To say red is the only one to blame for the decision to walk Gwyn is silly; it's also the players fault for executing, and the other coaches in the dugout's fault for letting it happen. Just dumb all around. Was red ever asked to comment on his decision in the post game interview? I'm curious to hear his explanation.

He was asked about it and he totally tried avoiding the question, stuttering at a loss for words with awkward facial expressions until saying there was still no execution from Hand, saying he thought Hand could get Mayberry out and saying something like Gwynn was hitting in the .180s but so was Mayberry and again putting it on Hand for getting into the jam and not being able to get out of it.

The Hand stuff is decently true but he still avoided specifically discussing the walk to Gwynn.

Redmond as the new Earl Weaver.

Dirt-kicking and profanely calling out incompetent umpires was Weaver's specialty. The guy even got tossed out of both games of a double-header 3 times. Thrown out of 2 games before they started. Now, that's feisty.

Weaver was thrown out of almost 4% of the MLB games (2,500+) he managed, so Red needs to step up and increase his 2% ejection pace. He also needs to turn his hat around so he can get closer to the ump's face without touching him.

Other than that bit of justified theater -- Will Little should probably be sent back to the minors to learn what the hell a strike is -- I thought I was watching last year's team choke repeatedly. Except that last year's team wouldn't have had that many opportunities to choke. So, that's a slight positive.

Some funny Weaver quotes -- a la Yogi Berra or Leo Durocher -- http://www.baseball-almanac.com/quotes/quoweav.shtml

More funny stuff, written shortley after Weaver died in 2013 -- http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/nationals/earl-weaver-quotes-to-thomas-boswell/2013/01/19/c29c12be-6289-11e2-9940-6fc488f3fecd_story.html

didn't see the game but wait redmond really IBBd tony gwynn jr?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Yes. With a lefty on the mound. In order to face a righty batter. With a pitcher who can't throw strikes.

Nothing about the decision made sense, unless like some people are mentioning, he forgot which Tony Gwynn it was.
