July 11, 201412 yr OK, despite the best efforts of the Marlins, Hutton, Waltz and the rest of the TV shills, miscellaneous Japanese pitchers McGehee played with, other buddies of McGehee and Loria's 1,000 personal votes, McGehee finished 5th. Dead last. Right where he started. What a surprise. However, I can't find the actual "vote" totals. Anywhere. Perhaps MLB is embarrassed by the whole ridiculous idea of fan "voting." All of this fan "voting" crap should be dispensed with, it's just dumb. Not to mention pernicious. Anyone who can "vote" a thousand or 10 thousand or a million times in some BS MLB "election" might wind up thinking he should be able to vote more than once in an actual election. Loria should be embarrassed about contributing to this nonsense while accomplishing nothing other than proving once again that Marlins fans are few and far between and are ineffective.
July 11, 201412 yr It is. Elections are important. MLB's BS "vote a thousand times, no problem" demeans the entire concept. Not good. In fact, really, really stupid. Never mind that it primarily sucks for the purposes of selecting MLB All-stars. It's a (bad) joke in all respects.
July 11, 201412 yr I actually find it more appalling that MLB now encourages people to vote an exasperating amount of times. It used to be you had one vote? Maybe ten ? But after that you had to sneakily find ways to vote more. Like do ur online voting then anonymously vote again several times at the ballpark. Or use different email accounts. Not that it made it better but there were limits and those who found ways around it kinda got the benefit of the doubt. Now its like just spam the voting all you want, who cares how screwed up it is.
July 11, 201412 yr Well, I got my coupon for voting over 20 times for Hits McGehee. Anybody want to fly me to Miami to use it?

Although, fantasy baseball did help level the field when fans, regardless of team, picked a player to help on their fantasy team to start on the all star team (e.g., Hanley).

July 12, 201412 yr Author http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/11206182/jordan-zimmermann-washington-nationals-likely-pitch-all-star-game Zimmerman almost certainly out of ASG. Opens up a pitchers spot...
July 12, 201412 yr Two n's, WC. Zimmermann. Zimmerman [3B] never made the team. #Nitpicking But yes, that does open a spot. Hopefully they don't look too closely at the fuckery that was last night's start.
July 12, 201412 yr Author That was easy. They did not pay attention to the f***ery! Still has the lowest ERA besides Beckett, who is hurt, of anyone not already on the team. Glad they made the right decision.
July 12, 201412 yr All we need is for Stanton to give his spot to mcgehee and keep Stanton for the derby and there ya go!!!!
July 12, 201412 yr Author Kinda cool next year we can say there's two young All-Stars headlining the rotation.
July 12, 201412 yr Kinda cool next year we can say there's two young All-Stars headlining the rotation. and Heaney should be a serviceable 3 too next year.
July 12, 201412 yr Alvarez deserves to be there, but McGehee does not. I'm glad that the right things ended up happening in the end.
July 13, 201412 yr VERY VERY happy that Alvarez got recognized for all that he's done this season. Big fan of McGehee's achievements this year and very thankful given the crap production we got from third base last year, but he's likely a fringe all star at best, and this year Rendon/Frazier should really be the only third baseman represented (yeah, I left Carpenter off since I'd rank him behind McGehee).

July 13, 201412 yr as someone who doesn't follow them and is genuinely curious, why are those two better than our tits? Look at their numbers.
July 13, 201412 yr Rendon and Frazier > McGehee. But if most of us on here can agree that Carpenter isn't a truly deserving all star, than my line of thinking has been McGehee should be there in Carpenters place at the least. So fringe All Star or not, I still think McGehee could have made the team if Matheny wasn't picking Cardinals for the sh*ts of it.
