2014 Marlins Trade Deadline

Featured Replies

Again the BS of Stanton going bananas with a Cishek trade.

Here's how I see it. . . Lets take the extreme perfect world scenario of Stanton absolutely wanting to stay here and desperately hoping that Loria extends him a major contract. Even in that unlikely case, if we could trade Cishek for a major league ready second baseman, Stanton should welcome that.

Trading Cishek would not be a fire sale, it would not upset Stanton. If Stanton wasn't tweeting negativity when his buddy Nolasco was traded , he won't get upset if we traded Cishek for a reasonable return.

Also, inversely, it's not like keeping Cishek is the one thing that's gonna make Stanton go "Oh. They kept Cishek? Well hell to the yes, now I wanna stay here!"

You're overestimating our front office there.

Yeah ur right. But my Stanton point still stands. Nothing says he'll be very upset of a Cishek trade.

I don't see why we aren't buyers? why not make a splash and try to get David Price?

Because the cost of getting Price would likely be too high for us. If we buy anything, we need to be cautious buyers buying something that will help us beyond just a rental for this season only

I would think that the fan base would see we are trying to win. And if we are going to make a run I think we need pitching and another bat.

I wouldn't mind a package deal involving Miley & Prado.

Eh, Prado's been so-so since his huge year and Miley is a decent 3 or 4, at best. For a lowish price, I'd be okay with that, but I'd love to see Dallas Keuchel come over from the Astros.

Tonight is a big game. I just would love to see our FO spend some money and I think all of us would like to see that.

Money? Yes.

Prospects? No.

Rival executives continue to say that the Marlins are lurking in the trade market, looking to acquire a starting pitcher that can help them beyond the 2014 season, writes Buster Olney in his latest ESPN Insider-only blog post. Marlins president of baseball ops Michael Hill has said the team won’t be sellers — as first noted by Manny Navarro of the Miami Herald on Monday— and Olney calls them “an intriguing candidate to surprise before the deadline. He points out that Miami is closer to the division lead in the NL East than the Rays are in the AL East.

I think we should be looking for a lefty reliever. I know that we need a starting pitcher and a second basemen, but a reliable lefty out of the pen is very important. Dan Jennings can take his sterling ERA to the minors. I know Dunn isn't great either but I think he is better than Jennings.

I don't think our bullpen is a problem at all. No need to add a piece there imo mostly because one bullpen guy isn't going to make a huge difference and we have a huge plethora of young arms that can contribute in the pen next year. We need either a starting pitcher or an impact bat.

#Marlins and others have checked on #DBacks' Miley. AZ position hasn't changed. "Keeping him," one club official said.
