Marlins sign Wei-Yin Chen

Featured Replies

Frisaro says that the Chen signing means no Ozuna trade. If it's true, that's good.

Our pitching is still a little shaky, but we're pretty good on the field.

Like I speculated, the lack of a return on Ozuna and a desire to be competitive made Loria bite the bullet on Chen. I'm standing by that guess.

On MLB Network, Dan O'Dowd: "I think Chen is a greater fit for Florida."

Fuck! Fuck! I will never get over people still calling us Florida and it will only anger me more as time goes on.

Jokes aside I thought O'Dowd had a fair take on this signing... He said it's a good move for us because we desperately needed starting pitching but he cautions us having to rely too much on Chen for more than what he can do. He said Chen is more of a contributor on a contender than a true #2 and here he's automatically our #2.

Ya hear that Loria? Go get Kennedy!

Florida Florida Florida

Mattingly says "Chen was one of two guys at the top of our list of who to target this offseason."

...who was the other!??!??

Any guesses?

I'm going with Mathis.

would love some kennedy action, but he's kind of in the same vein as Chen... Fish should sign Strasburg going into 2017

If I'm going to be completely honest it was probably Scott Kazmir.

I bet taiwanmarlin is excited about this news.

is Chen the first Taiwanese player in marlins history?

I don't notice nationalities

me neither but I'm glad the marlins are expanding internationally

Chen has a opt-out clause after 2 years of contract. He would use it, definitely.

All of the FAs who got those opt-outs this offseason will be exercising the clauses in 2 years because they would be stupid not to. Unless the player has a really severe injury or falls off a cliff production-wise, it makes financial sense for them to opt-out and get paid more.

I expect him to do what Mark Buehrle did here.

For what it's worth, there's an article on Fangraphs comparing him to Buehrle. I'm a prodigy.

Guys, good day today. First day in the win column this offseason. However we have tons of work to go. Gotta cut the fat from this team.
