April 12, 201610 yr well convincing win, positives all around. but....cosart needs to think of the greater good and if he wants to go 6 or 7 innings, let alone qualify for a win, he must understand its not all about him.
April 12, 201610 yr Author Cosart needs to apologize to Mattingly... But, ironically, if Donnie is the good clubhouse manager we hear he is, this gets settled and we never actually hear about it.
April 12, 201610 yr Cosart was known for being emotionally back when he was in Houston. Him getting emotional about losing out on the win isn't all that surprising.
April 12, 201610 yr So how's the offense doing? [emoji6] Sent from my SM-G900T using MarlinsBaseball.com mobile app
April 12, 201610 yr In the spirit of getting some backups in early on in the year, I think Mathis should get a start tomorrow.

April 12, 201610 yr Author We did he say? Sent from my SM-G900T using MarlinsBaseball.com mobile app When he was pulled he was pissed but it was a very lively reaction and he said come on Don or something and he went ballistic in the dugout. I don't mind him getting upset I'm glad he's mad but it seemed like he was mad at Donnie and not at himself and Donnie has to draw that line now.

April 12, 201610 yr How was Al Leiter's Marlins booth debut? I didn't watch tonight game. He was excellent.
April 12, 201610 yr Was at the game so missed the cosart thing. Maybe he shouldn't suck at pitching cause he couldn't throw strikes with an 8 run lead
April 12, 201610 yr Realmuto sucked behind the plate today far more than Cosart did on the mound, especially with all of the calls for the curve. Granted, Cosart obviously shouldn't have been pissed about being pulled. Mattingly made it clear in his presser that he at least thinks that Cosart was mad at himself, not him. I'm not sure how realmuto is too blame for cosart not being good at pitching.
April 12, 201610 yr But didn't see the game on TV only at citi field. Overall and as usual super unimpressed with cosart and his one trick pony (flat yet high velocity fastball). Did he even throw more than one breaking ball for a strike? He had so many line outs was lucky as hell he didn't give up more runs. Props to the pen tonight especially McGowan
April 12, 201610 yr As I said to Vince earlier, nothing Cosart has ever done while pitching has suggested that he is bad at it. He looked pretty good today until his selection became too heavy on curveballs. I haven't read the game thread. I saw a guy with an 8 run lead who couldn't locate anything but his fastball (barely) which was getting pounded for line drives everywhere (right too people luckily). He also has 0 pitch to get lefties out with. He makes Koehler look like Jose Fernandez. 100 pitches through 4.2 ip is pretty bad and blaming JT is like blaming the left fielder for not catching a ball that is hit in center left field where the center fielder didn't feel like running to catch it (side note loved ozunas oppo dong and his deep center catch)
April 12, 201610 yr As I said to Vince earlier, nothing Cosart has ever done while pitching has suggested that he is bad at it. He looked pretty good today until his selection became too heavy on curveballs. Uh...what? First. Let's start with his "stuff" Terrible control of all offspeed pitches. Not just missing down, but up. Watch the glove set up and ending. His curveball is all over the place. Completely lacks consistency. While it does have good movement, he lacks command to make it effective. Very erratic fastball control. Showed almost no ability to work corners with the cutter. Almost every time they tried to back door a lefty he missed out or over the plate. Tough pitch, yes. When it's your bread and butter, you better be consistent with it. Change up, this is his 3rd pitch and a complete work in progress but he throws it too often for not being good with it. Misses in at the belt, bounces it or leaves it up way too often. next, mound presence. Terrible. just plain terrible. Almost has no control of the game. Has little to no composure or sense of being baseball smart. If Hech doesn't make a great snag on the ground ball back to him this would be highlighted. 8-3 ball game I believe and you try to make an off balanced throw behind the runner instead of a simple look back and take the out. That was a play from anger, not the brain. character, show the manager up when you have as many BBs and ER as Ks. You want to be mad? Be mad you threw a very below average game in your first start. Don't beg to face a guy when you've shown nothing to warrant another at bat against a hitter who hit the ball sharply off of you twice. I see nothing to warrant optimism about his development. Decent stuff doesn't matter without consistency, control, and composure.
April 12, 201610 yr Home from work so i am catching replay on mlb.com... for anyone worried about the offense 5 games in... http://mlb.mlb.com/stats/sortable.jsp#elem=%5Bobject+Object%5D&tab_level=child&click_text=Sortable+Team+hitting&game_type='R'&season=2016&season_type=ANY&league_code='MLB'§ionType=st&statType=hitting&page=1&ts=1460436929439

But this is nice to see!
April 12, 201610 yr Furthermore, fuck Cosart's attitude. Seriously. If you can't get outs with an 8 run lead, GTFO.
April 12, 201610 yr Honestly,I am totally in Cosart's side in this case,as a SP what you need to do was keeping your team in the game,he did it,a 8 run lead won't make it easier to pitch to major league hitters,so you can't ask him to pitching great due to he has 8 runs in hand,I know his command was bad but at least he could hold the lead at 5 in the fifth inning, and don't forget it's his first game of the season and need only one more out to qualifying for the winning pitcher,so it's really too much strict for Donnie to do it.
