May 6, 201610 yr Also, as I told Vince tonight... this 10-1 run almost shouldn't be surprising considering we've said on here for quite a while now that if we could get solid starting pitching along with our offense doing what we think they can do, that we'd be pretty damn good. So while this is amazing to watch this is exactly the best case scenario we've expected (or better said hoped for?)

Sweeping the doyers with urena getting a 5 out save would probably quality is better than best case scenario

It's still really early and I'm really trying not to jump the gun, especially taking into consideration our history of devastating injuries, but I'm getting the feeling that this team is pretty good. At the very least, this should be our best team since 2009 (not that that's saying much).
May 6, 201610 yr Vince when was the last time we were 3 games over? Sent from my SM-G900T using MarlinsBaseball.com mobile app
May 6, 201610 yr 6/11/14 - shut out at texas 6-0. bour's debut was somewhere around this time. 34-31.
May 6, 201610 yr I would feel so much better if we had one more decent starter to push Koehler to the pen.
May 6, 201610 yr Through last 10-1, all Marlins starting pitchers collected 10 wins of 10, which means bullpen performed well. That's really impressive.

May 6, 201610 yr i was at game i love how team playing after LA trip this could best baseball we seen from team some time crowd was bad because of heat game
May 6, 201610 yr "I was more upset getting pulled from this game than the no-hit game," Conley said. "In the no-hit game, I knew I was at 116 and I kind of felt like it was coming. This game, I felt I had more left in the tank, even though physically, I was a little fatigued. "I know what they're doing. I threw 116 pitches the last time, and regardless of the words coming out of my mouth and what I say, it's early in the season still, and hopefully I make a lot more starts and throw a lot more innings." I like this kid. Here's hoping he's with us for a long time.
May 6, 201610 yr Not to be a downer but in this 10-1 streak, our starters have only completed 6+ innings 6/11 games and completed 7+ innings 2/11 games. If we want to sustain this good form we need longer outings from the rotation.
May 6, 201610 yr One month after opening day,our lineup finally got the really test with the SICK Phillies pitchers.
May 6, 201610 yr It is not a matter of what our starters could have done as much as Mattingly making the moves that he thinks will give us the best chance to win. Conley could have easily finished the sixth, but the bullpen is just infallible right now. Once the bullpen is a little worn, Mattingly will extend his starters. His strategy is working well so far. I only think the hiring of Donnie was paid off now.

It's possible they didn't want to extend Conley too much last night because he's still young and he threw a lot of pitches last game in his attempt at a no-hitter.
May 6, 201610 yr @gizmo nailed it and I was just speaking with @Vince0926 about it that right now Koehler is the one that needs to get it together. I rather shift him to the bullpen and maximize his stuff in shorter innings like they have done with Phelps. Having him throw 95+ in the 7th inning would really make our bullpen deeper. The streak has been great but its pretty much been a trend with every start that after 5 innings they have thrown 80+ pitches and really only going about 6 innings or so. I'd love a 7 run plus beat down sometime this weekend. Velasquez you have to get to early, just like Kershaw and Scherzer they had that one inning that they were able to string the runs together because you may not get another chance tonight. Fan Graphs posted an article a couple days ago on the Phillies offense. Combined WAR it was negative. Should go down even more after the Cardinals series. It would be exceedingly easy to get out of control. The Phillies are on pace to win 97 games. I’ve already read suggestions they could be the new 2015 Cubs, or the new 2015 Astros. Let me just throw on some cold water before we go back to all the happy stuff. There’s no denying the Phillies’ record, and it’s mostly the result of quality pitching. But the Phillies rank second-to-last in position-player WAR, their total actually below zero. Only the Braves are keeping them from the basement, and the Braves might be thinking about contracting themselves. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-phillies-have-had-an-almost-perfect-start/
May 6, 201610 yr I say it will be on the offense only scoring 4. Is Vince really commenting on me being negative? That's funny.
May 6, 201610 yr Author It's possible they didn't want to extend Conley too much last night because he's still young and he threw a lot of pitches last game in his attempt at a no-hitter. Conley's velocity was dipping in the 6th, but I agree with him in that I would have liked to see him try and finish the 6th. w/e we won so good on don. And maybe this gives Morris some confidence not to be so sucky
