August 6, 201610 yr Also, now that season is over I guess this is officially our first off-season pick up.
August 6, 201610 yr Didn't say he was great. But he seems to me a legit MLB lefty reliever...which they don't have in the system...except for Dunn (maybe). 9 hits over 62 ABs looks nice, until you realize he also has 9 BB. Not near as shut down as some of his small sample size numbers indicate
August 6, 201610 yr All year, some people have had an issue with the team not having a lefty reliever (except for Dunn, who has disappointed). Now they acquire one and it's not good because we gave up Mader. Mader is just a guy in any system.
August 6, 201610 yr Not near as shut down as some of his small sample size numbers indicate @Admin has a small "sample size" too and he gets shut down all the time.

August 6, 201610 yr 9 hits over 62 ABs looks nice, until you realize he also has 9 BB. Not near as shut down as some of his small sample size numbers indicate Would you rather have him or the 7th best reliever on our depth chart right now?

August 6, 201610 yr Author We have a terrible farm system with no useful prospects until a guy is traded. Then he's amazing. Never fails.

Not near as shut down as some of his small sample size numbers indicate He's walked 9 since July 1st and 4 were in 1 game. He's been fine otherwise. Not saying he's great (I haven't watched him pitch enough), but his numbers against lefties are good (also were good in the minors) and the return wasn't much. Mader isn't nothing, but you hope that one day he becomes what Cervenka is now.

August 6, 201610 yr There's a reason the Marlins have such a Shitty farm system, that problem maybe will be addressed one day. I don't care much about losing Mader, Seymour though was among the Marlins, top 10 prospects, the Marlins repeatedly seem to forget that they'll need players after this season, but I guess maybe another bullpen arm will work out better than the Rodney deal.

I was going to add that people are making a big deal about Mader, yet Seymour is probably the better prospect in the deal. Either way, our farm system will look just fine when we trade Jose to the Red Sox for 6 prospects.
August 6, 201610 yr Would you rather have him or the 7th best reliever on our depth chart right now? yr right he prob has a slight edge over rodney

Well he's 21 in low A with an OPS under .600. His one skill seems to be speed.
August 6, 201610 yr To reiterate what the likes of Admin has posted, if these prospects were actually any good, our system wouldnt be ranked pretty much at the bottom. They may be considered "decent" prospects in the context of our organisation but not necessarily good prospects in the scheme of things.
August 6, 201610 yr Keep burning the farm. It doesn't matter now but this lack of depth is going to hurt down the line for a team that doesn't spend in free agency or IFA. I don't mind the move in its own bubble. It's when I consider it with everything done that you see how desperate it all is and how many players in our farm we're giving for very little return. It's the thing that happened in the 2015 offseason that led us to this farm. Look, I don't mind the guys we gave up in this one. Mader looked ok but had a LONG way to go and was old for his level. Seymour was struggling in low A. They weren't super prospects. I'm just concerned that when injuries and under performance happen next year and the yr after that, and the team won't pay for good free agents, they'll look to the farm and realize how much they've messed up their future for minor upgrades now.
August 6, 201610 yr I'm just hoping that the fact they are willing to trade any and every prospect indicates Loria will be selling after the 2017 season. No reason to plan for the future of a team he won't own.

August 6, 201610 yr Honestly those prospects were doing much and likely won't amount to much either. They are only ranked because of how shit our system is. Cervenka is a solid lefty and can be very effective if he cuts the walks.
August 6, 201610 yr Author I am convinced we could trade a 27 year old in the Gulf Coast League and there would be an outcry here.
August 6, 201610 yr yr right he prob has a slight edge over rodney Rodney's BABIP is up to .260. Regression almost dead. Arrows about to be unleashed. Hopefully...
August 6, 201610 yr I hope the Marlins trade me one day. Maybe all of you will embrace my greatness that day.
August 6, 201610 yr DAMN, this was twittered by 5 different sources. I noticed MLB investigation of Padres by only 1. Maybe I missed others.
