November 22, 20178 yr I tend to think this was a move by Fox because I find it hard to believe that Jeter would have much of an opinion on this either way. Unless he has a person in mind for the job.
November 22, 20178 yr I tend to think this was a move by Fox because I find it hard to believe that Jeter would have much of an opinion on this either way. This is true as well. Too many other things on Jeter's plate right now. The timing is odd but in a sense it IS perfect timing in that new ownership is here to make changes including trading the MVP, how could there be a "better" time to replace such a good and loved broadcaster? Sounds silly at first but if you're FSN and you're pretty sure they're gonna rebuild the team and you honestly wanna "rebuild" the broadcast booth (even if it's just for financial reasons) then isn't this the right time to do it?
November 22, 20178 yr Unless he has a person in mind for the job. Himself? A-Rod? Girardi? Himself, A-Rod, and Girardi?
November 22, 20178 yr The problem is that the Marlins have been excruciating to watch on television for most of their recent history because of bad play and poorly constructed rosters. Hutton and Waltz deserve credit for making Marlins broadcasts watchable in a way that few other broadcasters do. Yes but this is meaningless from the business side of FSN.
November 22, 20178 yr Unless he has a person in mind for the job. Perhaps...though I tend to think the people he knows would be more of the analyst role than play-by-play. I guess we will know when they announce a replacement.
November 22, 20178 yr I'm going to miss Waltz but the Stanton departure will be much more devastating. Funny how I've seen a few tweeters say this is worse than trading Stanton. I think the Stanton departure is worse.
November 22, 20178 yr ******BREAKING NEWS******* Billy The Marlin’s hours cut back from 81 games a year to 39. More details to follow.
November 22, 20178 yr Funny how I've seen a few tweeters say this is worse than trading Stanton. I think the Stanton departure is worse. I love Rich but there's no way this is worse. Not even close. I mean one could argue losing Rich is not even "bad" it just sucks because we get connected to long time broadcasters. It's not like Rich won't be fine and it's not like he won't get replaced. Man this is nothing like trading the reigning MVP.
November 22, 20178 yr In perfect Marlins fashion, we packaged someone we wanted to get rid of with someone we loved, and shipped them both off. The end result of course is shit.
November 22, 20178 yr This stings. I watch mediocre teams play in South Florida. The two most mediocre teams, the Marlins and Panthers, have had phenomenal PBP guys through my history watching them. With the Panthers, Dave Strader was the best PBP guy in hockey (RIP). Steve Goldstein is still easily top-5, even if not as good. Waltz, in general (pretty sure he does some NCAABB after baseball) is a great PBP guy. To be honest, he's going to find something better than the Marlins to do with his career. This being said, I sincerely hope they tear this team down in every aspect possible. Burn FSN to the ground. Burn the jerseys. Burn the HR sculpture in the outfield. Sell every single player. Yelich, Ozuna, Realmuto. All of them. If they're going to rebuild and destroy every living trace of this team's history, ffs just do it. No half assing.

Just shit on everything and our history and be done with it Instead of killing it with thousands of tiny papercuts.
November 22, 20178 yr If they end up hiring someone with Yankee ties, this would have obviously been a Jeter influenced move. I guess we'll have to wait and see. I will say , there's really no other explanation for this move. Play by play guys make a nice living compared to avg Joe's like us, but it's hardly anything that would break the bank. Waltz should have no problem landing a new job. He is really good and is a pleasure to listen to. I've been struggling with my decision to move on from the Marlins if Stanton is traded but they just keep making it easier and easier.

November 22, 20178 yr This is well on the way to being the off season from Hell. I don't know whether I'll even care to watch this team after its blown up. Everything that made the team telecasts entertaining to watch....Jose, Giancarlo, Rich and Tommy now all gone, nothing but a nuclear winter in its place and stead. I'm not a Yankee homer, so I have zero feelings for Jeter other than I hate what he's about to do to my team. Yea, burn it down. I'm at a point where it'll be easier than ever to stop caring.
November 22, 20178 yr Was pissed about Tommy. This makes even less sense. Waltz was an award winning broadcaster and loyal to this team for over a decade. Terrible decision.
November 22, 20178 yr Fox Sports insisted on the record that decisions on these dismissals were made entirely by Fox, not by the Marlins. But several people close to the situation were highly skeptical of that, noting that Fox loved Waltz all the way until the time Derek Jeter bought the team. A source very close to Conine said Jeter did not want Conine to remain with the broadcast crew. Herald
November 22, 20178 yr I mean it makes sense that Conine got axed considering I'm sure he was not thrilled with the way the team dumped him from his FO job. The Waltz thing I don't get. Who are you going to get that's any better? They all already have jobs. It should still be Hutton and Waltz.
November 22, 20178 yr Frank forte or someone claiming to be frank forte is on twitter saying that the team very much has influence in these decisions.
November 22, 20178 yr Lol I had a hunch that the Fox statement might have been BS at least partially. Rich is harder to replace than Tommy is. Jeter probably wanted Conine gone because he went public about that insulting job offer. Again, the jury is still out on Jeter, but you have to admit that he's been behaving like Jeffrey Loria Jr. so far. What other MLB owners have such strong opinions on the broadcasting crew? He's behaving like a pettier, less competent version of Loria.
November 23, 20178 yr But guys seriously.... where is L A R R Y? He leaved this website by a personal issue. No longer involved here.
