Predict the Opening Day 25-Man Roster

What I find very interesting is that Elieser Hernandez only got to High A last season yet he is in contention for a rotation spot. I think he’s pitching very well but I guess he makes the team without getting to AA or he goes back.

A+ to the major league directly,is that a record in the MLB history !?no,I don't think so.

Yea that's basically the exact point of the rule 5 draft. In a pretty much lost season, might as well give a guy (or two of them) a shot to stick in the majors.

Precisely how Dan Uggla got a shot.  Incidentally that 06 team exceeded expectations by a lot so hey ..2018 who knows

We can thank Pokey Reese for leaving Spring Training in 2006 and giving Dan Uggla that shot.

I love how Frisaro has Peter Mooney, who has literally done nothing in his minor league career to deserve to be in major league camp, as well as Chris O'Grady and Justin Nicolino on the roster but not Jarlin Garcia.

Im assuming the mooney thing is only because riddle wont be ML ready and he's the next guy up so to speak.  Him or Adames.

They have said Garcia is going to start this entire year whether it is AAA or MLB. They are converting O'Grady to a reliever (which is a smart move). Practically, they are not in competition for a spot.

I think this projection is more of an indication that Garcia should get some AAA innings to stretch himself out before rejoining the team. I agree with that, and I don't think it is a knock on Garcia. He's going to pitch more innings than O'Grady and Nicolino this year when all is said and done.

As for Nicolino, he is just out of options so why not try him for 6-8 weeks before you call someone up to replace him. If the shellings continue, he will be gone. Really no harm there and seeing if he finally figures it out before replacing him with Peters or whoever.

The problem is blowing a year of service time on Brinson, Alcantara, and Anderson. That makes -0- sense and is embarrassing.

Yeah no question about it, the Marlins will have completely botched it if either of those ends up on the Opening Day Roster.

I am pretty excited about seeing Garcia as a starter, he did really well as a reliever and having someone like O'Grady as kinda of a LOOGY would work great for our bullpen. We are gonna have a shorter bench and go with 8 pitchers in the bullpen. Having someone like Nicolino or Turner to take up innings is probably what the Marlins are looking at.

One thing we must remember is the last couple days of Spring Training; when rosters are being finalized and they are pitchers opting out of their Minor league deals. I still think we pick up one from there and slot them into the rotation. One thing the Marlins can offer is playing time.

I dont understand why everyone is against Brinson, Alcantara and Anderson making the roster. If they are ready let them play.

Would you rather win a couple more games this season or have the chance to keep all three of them for at least an extra season down the line?

The sooner they play the sooner they get through the growing pains and make a sustained impact.

Yeah, those 30 games at the big league level will really matter in 2019. Much more than having to watch them leave a year early because we wanted to win a game or two more in April

Would you have said the same thing with Hanley Ramirez in 2006?

Less than 11 days to go and still a lot of roster questions to answer...

Will Riddle be ready for opening day?

3 bench spots to name.

Does Brinson officially make the team?

3 starting pitching spots to name.

And about 4 or 5 bullpen spots to name as well.

Definitely not a boring spring training this year as far as roster construction.

I really dont understand why the Marlins are worried about a Brad Hand situation happening with Nicolino.

First if all, I dont think anyone will bother claiming Nicolino and they aren't even comparable in terms of talent. Throughout his minor league career you could see that Hand had the stuff to dominate at times. Nicolino gave up many more hits than innings pitched and only had 86 strikeouts in 201.1 minor league innings.

Hand always had the potential. Nicolino simply doesn't.

I also really like Caleb Smith. Struggled in the first inning and had some bad luck but I think he can do quite well. Would like to see him in the rotation.

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

my lineup:

CF Brinson

3B Anderson

RF DD

1B Bour

C Realmuto

2B Castro

LF Maybin / Van Slyke

SS Rojas

Pitcher

Honestly this isn't that bad of a lineup. The question marks come from age. Rojas is bad, but honestly that's it.  We might be able to score runs.

If only we could pitch.
