Maybin signed

So serious question... will he be cheaper and better than Ichiro? If not, then the Ichiro move really seems even weirder in hindsight.

Ichiro is effin' 44 years old. Zero power. His best possible season would still be equivalent to an expected/bad season by Maybin being that it'd be with an OPS of around .650-.680.

At least Maybin is 30, can play all OF spots and has speed on his side, and can crank 8-12 HRs in a season. If he can put up a season like he did in 2016 with Detroit, which is a possibility because again he's 30 and not 44, he would have some trade value. Are we paying more for Maybin that we would've for Ichiro? I'd be very surprised if not. But isn't this exactly what we wanted? Sign a veteran player to a one year deal that could potentially be traded for value before the trade deadline before we call up our youngsters while not messing up with their service years?

It's a nice baseball signing. The only problem I have with it is that he reminds me of Miguel Cabrera.

Not a horrible deal price wise but where's the logic in paying $3.25 million when Ichiro could have stayed here for like $2 million?

Maybe Jeter really didn't cut Ichiro as a cost cutting move? Maybe Jeter really wanted to pay more for a potentially more productive Maybin than to pay $2 million for Ichiro to sit on the bench and be not much more than fan service?
