February 21, 20188 yr He's on a one year deal. If he has a big year, he'll cash in somewhere else next year, it would be moronic to not trade him at the deadline if he has a big first half. I doubt he has such a big year that that happens.He hasn't made over 9million a year in his entire career.
February 21, 20188 yr Would have preferred the 1 year 4 million deal the Rays just signed Carlos Gomez to, but the player who we signed for the OF was never really the biggest deal so long as we signed someone to delay Brinson and Sierra. If we can flip whoever we got for something that was always ideal, but realistically the most important thing is not calling them up right away.

Yea, Maybin seems like an overpay to me when you consider that Realmuto is only getting 2.9. Gomez may put up better numbers, but I think Maybin will be better in the clubhouse....so maybe that is part of it.

JT wasn't going to get his actual value at arbitration, that isn't how it works.

He filed for 3.55,(which you are right, is below his value) and lost. The point I'm trying to make is that the Marlins were probably Maybin's only shot at signing an MLB contract on a team where he will definitely start. It's a classic pillow deal and I think the Marlins overpaid.

Well, Gomez has alot more pop, which seems to be what teams are valuing the most these days. I wonder if the Marlins were in on Colby Rasmus. He just signed a minor league contract with Baltimore.
