Yes, but the mistake was trading away our farm system (not that it was great to begin with) out of desperation.  When I said minor trades I meant not touching the core, but also not trading the farm system.  Like the Dee Gordon trade.  Dee wasn't part of the core, and he brought us back some decent prospects and could have been replaced at 2nd base by Deetz.  What the other FO did was atrocious.  This FO you would expect would be much better.  Anyway, I guess we can disagree.  I just won't ever accept that you have to tank in order to rebuild.

I would have kept the Outfield, maybe dumped Ozuna as it was evident he wanted big bucks. Dumping gordon sucked because it left a hole in the leadoff spot of the lineup but Anderson or Realmuto could have filled that.

 

There was no rush. its not like the Stanton deal really helped us outside of money and the Yelich deal i feel would have been the same quality of prospects at the deadline or even more from a desperate team. Heck, we might have gotten the same exact deal from Milwaukee.

 

The Mets have been a shit show since 2015, throwing money at their problems and hoping they can compete with just a strong staff. I'd take the Marlins over the Mets right , but atleast the Mets have had success in the last 6 years developing a quality rotation  and making a WS run. That rotation when they decide to blow it up is going to make our rebuild look like a Habitat for Humanity home made by the Cleveland Browns.

 

Wouldn't we all like another 2003 run if it meant having to deal with 2006 to 2012 all over again? The mets are about to hit 2019 like its 2006 with an injured 3B and a stable of stud pitchers and sluggers that almost every team can use.

If we "tank correctly" we won't be this bad for relatively long. If the Mets keep doing what they're doing every season they'll be bad every season. I'll take the path with more hope for the future. Last years team with Caleb Smith would have been better.  J T Realmuto taking it to the level he has this season would have made it better.

Stanton and Marcell Ozuna have regressed though. Also Dee Gordon who you didn’t care to keep apparently, but still.

Nope.  I wouldn't.  I was totally against the pieces we gave up to the Padres to get Cashner and Rodney.  Look at Chris Paddack now.  Haven't seen Naylor's numbers lately but he was raking earlier in the season.

That's a good point but he very well might have with Prado's injury.  Plus trading Dee Gordon could have moved Prado to 2nd and opened up 3rd base for Anderson.

A lot of Anderson's defensive value has come from his work in RF. He's been a - at 3B and a + in RF.

Third base would have been the opportunity however, had the team not been blown up. Prado is made of glass at this point so guarantee Anderson makes a bunch of starts no matter what. Not disagreeing with your original point, however, that Anderson's opportunity may not have come this year with keeping everyone around.
