Realmuto traded to Phillies

Featured Replies

Well I'm already accepting he's on the outs and excited to see what we can get for him.

Yeah, and let's be honest: Realmuto is really good and all, but he's not Cabrera, Stanton or Yelich. He is a soon-to-be-28-year-old catcher who will likely be 32 or more by the time this team is ready to seriously contend. Trading him won't hurt that much. I'm perfectly fine moving him for a nice package.

This lowers his trade value a bit since teams know Miami is now more desperate to move him, it is a dick move all around by the agent.

Well, not necessarily. He doesn't hit free agency until 2021, so we technically don't have to trade him right now. Dick move? Yeah, but I don't think it will affect things all that much. The Marlins can still be very patient.

With the season he just had and with two years of control left this is the peak time to trade him. Waiting any further than this offseason will bring down his value drastically. It's easy to argue that they can't be very patient any longer.

This definitely not what I want to see in the beginning of one day…

You know who will be on the team next year? Wei-Yin Chen, the superior profile picture.

Would be nice to get a bonafide Shortstop along with a top of the rotation starter. We can sign a catcher to be a stop gap if Banfield projects to be a solid catcher.

Maybe something like Lux + others from LA. I'd also try to get Barnes back in the deal, who could still be a pretty good everyday catcher with a lot of control left.

Brendan Rodgers from COL also makes a lot of sense, with their struggles at C and already having Story.

If we traded him we could sign like a Grandal or Lucroy or we sign a cheap guy like Bryan Holaday again. But idk if Grandal or Lucroy would be there if or when we trade JT

Free Agent Catchers

Yasmani Grandal (30 years old, 3.6 WAR)

Wilson Ramos (31, 2.4)

Kurt Suzuki (35, 2.0)

Martin Maldonado (32, 0.9)

Nick Hundley (35, 0.9)

Matt Wieters (33, 0.9)

A.J. Ellis (38, 0.8)

Devin Mesoraco (31, 0.7)

Jonathan Lucroy (33, 0.6)

Rene Rivera (35, 0.3)

Chris Gimenez (36, 0.0)

Chris Stewart (37, -0.1)

Jarrod Saltalamacchia (34, -0.2)

Jose Lobaton (34, -0.3)

Drew Butera (35, -0.3)

Jeff Mathis (36, -0.5)

Bobby Wilson (36, -0.5)

Ramos is an attractive option. He made $8.5 million last season.  Can hold his own  at the plate.  Very good at handling a staff.  Well liked by teammates.  Priced well.

Jeff Mathis and AJ Ellis back as Marlins please?

His agent was really had a sense of humor and knowing that this team would have a "different uniform" by the start of spring training…

I'm not sure it will bring his value down drastically. He is one of the best catchers in baseball at a very thin position. He will always have pretty significant value so long as a he maintains his current level of production (and I don't see why he wouldn't; he's been pretty consistent). I do agree that his value is at its peak right now, but I don't think the Marlins have to take any lowball offers just because of what his agent said.

I would just like to clarify the title of this thread... Realmuto's agent was talking about JT Realmuto right? Because it just says JT and we also have JT Riddle so just wanted to make sure this agent was talking about the other JT.

That would be even worse.

Really disappointed, but I believe Jeter and Hill (he said he would be a really good GM under a boss not named Loria) would make this team a winner in this case.

Nobody is saying anything about lowball offers. I'm saying as soon as this offseason ends teams can legitimately offer less in return and it would be fair on their part and the Marlins would be losing out.

Maybe his agent just said this try to force us to increase the offer, the hot stove season just started so let's just wait and see what would happen !!!
