This is complete and utter bullshit!!!

They ought to forfeit if they don't want to play.  If you want to protest, protest.  Sports is supposed to take our minds off of this stuff and be something to just enjoy.  Yeah I get the "platform, blah blah blah" but I just want to watch a game and take my mind off the craziness that is normal life/the news.

Depends. I personally say no it wouldn't work, right now. As it is, I don't think they're going to come back out tonight.

I don't know guys - I know we all have different views and perspectives of this, and that's fine.

I'm a get your hands dirty kind of guy.  If you want to see a change, then lead by example.  Mentor kids, create jobs, provide an opportunity for success for impoverished communities.  These guys have the platform and the financial means to do so.

I feel like sitting out games is useless.  In fact, I feel like it creates more division.  It's an easy way to keep people at each other's throats, and stoke the flames of division.

I'll be honest, it was simply because we got screwed out of a game tying opportunity and I felt it wasn't fair to Coastie to have his win streak just end like that. But, next official loss without controversy, go for it.

I wanna agree with this but here's the thing, athletes do have power to influence. If they do it "this way" by screwing us out of the game we wanna see, that's how they get their point across. Because now every Mets and Marlins fan watching tonight has this topic on their mind. Whether u agree with the message or not is not my point. My point is that this is a very powerful way to deliver that message.

I'm believing entirely this will be the case.

After the final game of the regular season.

Marlins will finish off in New York with the Yankees, Mets will be in DC so it's just a short flight back home for them, if necessary.

Tbh now every team has to do this or those who don't will look like they dont care or support the message.

And after so many situations of, "if you want to protest, do it peacefully, no wait no not like that or like that or that way or like that," what more can they do? This was peaceful, it sends a statement. Gets the point across. "Pay attention."

People are going to be upset no matter what you do, so why not do what you feel is right?

But one of their biggest platforms is the field so using it to deliver a message helps. Nobody pays attention if they just make a donation or do some nice things on an off day. People notice this type of action.

Not with the  people that disagree it doesn't.  I had already stopped watching the Heat for the rest of this season because of stuff like this. I love baseball too much to do it with baseball but they just pushed me one step closer.  This accomplishes nothing but deepen the divide and the animosity.

I respect your opinion, fully. You have the right to it, and I understand.

SB's point is valid. These athletes have a major platform and are choosing to use it. As I mentioned earlier, this is the athlete's way of saying, "hey, pay attention."

I'm with this - this makes me want to tune out and not pay attention at all.

So is there a game or not? If the Mets decide to not take the field then the marlins should win by forfeit. Fuck that shit.
