Click on the link to see how shitty the Marlins keep getting

https://www.tankathon.com/mlb

Currently at #10 and dropping like a rock

Cheer them on as they stay on pace to have the worst record in MLB....!!!!

Honestly, if I were running a team and I *wanted* to tank, Don Mattingly would be the perfect manager.

The fact that nothing is being done by now to fix this team (i.e. firing Don or promoting players from the farm), tells me they won't do anything to improve the team at trade deadline and they'll go for a Top 6 pick (I think they are doing a lottery system now for the Top 6 picks)

I'm fully convinced that Mattingly will be the manager at least until the end of the season even if the team loses 30 games in a row, all 30 of which can be attributed to Mattingly doing something like pinch hitting Anthony Bass for Jazz Chisholm in the bottom of the ninth of a one run game with the bases loaded.

Bass can hit though so maybe if he sent up ... Elieser.

i don't think Mattingly is dumb enough to know the pitchers don't hit in the NL anymore

What's wrong with you?

I'm fully expecting around 93 losses this season

Gives us a Nice amount of wins.

We only have 3 more wins than the worst teams... We have a shot at the worst record.  But I think they are doing a lottery starting next year for the first 6 picks, so worst record is not a guarantee for first pick.  Marlins are probably OK with that since they won't have to shell out a ton of money for the #1 overall

Even if the Marlins do get the number 1 pick, you know they’re keeping him in MiLB for a couple of years and then trading him in a mid season trade for a SS prospect and an aging former superstar (JT?) on an expiring contract who will bat .198 for the rest of the season while the Marlins don’t make the playoffs once again, and then after the season, bolt for the Minnesota Twins. Leaving the Marlins without their number one pick or their aging former superstar. Meanwhile number one pick gets called up by new team and becomes ROY.

To be devil's advocate - beyond Meyer/Cabrera for Hernandez (kick to pen), there is nothing they could have really done with call ups. Lewin isn't going to be a monstrous upgrade to Cooper/Aguilar (if at all). There are service time concerns with Bleday/Burdick, and it's not like they are setting the world on fire. Fortes is a backup catcher so who cares. They don't have upside other infielders in high minors at the moment. There isn't anything to do here. I agree Meyer could have come up 3 weeks into the season and firing Don can send a message for sure, but would that fix things? They are still deeply offensively flawed.

So to "fix this team" now, they'd need to sell-out for a stud CF and that is really hard to do in May when mostly everyone still thinks they have a chance so who is doing a major franchise changing prospect trade now? Then, they always needed 2 more bats so how the hell do you get the other without current free agency? This goes back to the failure in the moves they didn't do in the offseason - Correa/Bryant/Seager (marquee FA) and trade for a CF. Especially the later.

Just saying, let's not let frustration boil over into things they can't control at this point. They lost this year in March doing nothing and their bet that "everything" must go right was wrong. It does seem worse than anticipated with the 1 run losses, but that's baseball.

Big picture, if they aren't going to win the world series this year, they shouldn't improve the team at the deadline and they should move Pablo, Aguilar, Berti, and most of the bullpen (Floro, Sulser, Bass, Head, etc.) and completely load up the farm. They'd get a massive return for Pablo, and recoup all of the Stallings/Wendle/Sulser/Scott players moved quickly trading everyone else. Likewise, it is another top top draft pick (including better 2nd rounders).

Cue the "rinse repeat" folks, but frankly, they'd be absurdly loaded on paper and have 23-24 guys on their active roster coming back around $70m bucks. No pitchers would be needed which is huge, so free agency dollars can be spent on bats (a better FA investment IMO. Arms more volatile).

So does Bruce spend next year. It always comes back to this. This year is about toast, so for me, it's about positioning this team with 23-24 guys at $70m bucks and looking at Bruce and saying "you gotta spend $110m and be 22nd in payroll." They will have a monster team if they do that adding 2-3 free agent bats and the Pablo return to the MLB roster, with Eury and Eder coming fast

It's really difficult to believe in Sherman.

Bruce Sherman has shown us enough times already that him spending what it takes to have a winning team is never going to actually happen.

I do not trust Kim Ng to handle a roster makeover of any kind, she has shown me that she is incompetent as a GM.

We need a new owner, a new GM and a new manager. Until then, it is just going to be an annual shit show.

There is no reason to believe in him. He has shown who he is, and thats not going to miraculously change.

I'll say I disagree on Lewin being essentially a lateral move. If he produces offensively similar to Cooper/Aguilar and plays the defense we expect of him, that improves the team a good bit.

How sad is it when you sometimes look back at the Loria/Samson era as better times. 😂

I agree that ultimately nothing will change that much, until the Marlins get complete new ownership and GM and Manager.

I know we all had high hopes that things would get better after Loria sold the team, but unfortunately it’s a whole lot of more of the same.

How cool would it be if someone like Mark Cuban would buy the Marlins. Because not only would you have someone willing to have a higher budget, but also someone with that natural competitive drive that will expect his team to make it to and win the WS every year.

That’s the type of Owner the Marlins need, but probably will never get.

Yep. I love Cubans desire to win as an owner at all costs. He doesn't treat his franchise like a fucking ATM and realizes it's more of a luxury good as a wealthy person. He loves to win and that's pretty much it. But, were all stuck with this pile of shit for the next ten years at least probably.

Of course, I don't think anyone disagrees. It just stands to say, if we ignore this year, they can easily field a 23-24 man roster for $70-80m that will be very very good and just needs the 2 major offensive upgrades.

Does Bruce make the same mistake twice? We'll see.

We don't need to wait and see. We played that game the last 2 off-seasons. He's shown us who he is.

It’s just the same thing over and over again.

it’s one thing if you churn the roster year over year and have success like the Rays.   We do it and stay in mediocrity.

I’m just tired of “ignore this year, next year will be better….” for years on end …

And the same people saying it now will say it again a year from now. Move those goalposts forever.

Cooper is pacing 3+ WAR per 600 PA this year so that's not possible to be upgraded here. He's having a good year. Aguilar 1+. FG thinks Aguilar does .8-1.7 this year overall which sounds about right.

What's a "good bit" over Aguilar here? Just curious. FG thinks Lewin might be a 1+ WAR player over 600 PA himself, so I have a hard time thinking he'd be a 2-3 WAR guy right now.

But if you mean it's not lateral as they should have used Aguilar's $7m bucks on something else and just had Lewin get 400-500PA this year instead, obviously a resounding YES. The second they signed Soler this should have happened and Aguilar kicked out.
