So any new trade rumors?

Are we sellers yet or does the front office still consider ourselves somehow in this?

Sell to buy for 2023. Getting so annoyed how the media thinks every team has to be classified as either going all in or having a fire sale as if there's no in between.

Somehow Ng will prove them wrong and do neither by doing nothing.

It's not my fault if realities of truth aludes many of you on here.

There are certainly many bad takes around here, but I've yet to see a really bad one for this deadline.

Pablo is controlled as much as Luis Castillo 365 days from today. There is no real reason to move him. You will get effectively the same deal this offseason or next deadline when the choice is $100+m to Rodon, or trade some guys for a $18m over 2 years Pablo. You also have control years from Cooper, Wendle, Rojas, Berti, Bass, Bleier, Floro, Sulser, and Okert so there is no gun to anyone's head. I agree, moving most of the later is likely maximizing potential this deadline, but are they really going to get a game changer for any of them, or are we talking about a different FV45/FV40 prospect that may be incrementally better this deadline versus the offseason? This is also ignoring every team in baseball is trying to sell off these sort of parts and teams with expiring contracts may give guys away for nothing. It may not be possible to move all of them as everyone is bargain shopping before coming to the Marlins "better" assets.

Basically, Pablo is extremely valuable. One bad start doesn't move that an inch. There is no real rush here for anything with him. They should be shooting for a Castillo level deal for Pablo and if it doesn't materialize, who cares. Also to note, N. Marte is likely moving to LF as I've read a bunch about him. A FV55 corner OF bat at best versus a FV60 SS really impacts that trade and makes it much more logical for Seattle. It's really not an overpay if we assume he is going to be an OF, which I myself do assume SEA/CIN both believe here. We're on a message board, they are professionals. Many here forget that, but they know who these players are vastly more than we do.

Keeping Pablo is a great idea. Trading him for a great double centerpiece package is also a great idea. The Castillo/Benintendi trades speak volume to his immense value. As for the IF/RP crew, they should be trading at least 3-4 of them (plus expiring contracts - Aguilar) just to try and max out a little value, but at the end of the day they can also do it in the offseason.

I'm not very worried here. Everyone is controlled. I'd like to see some action, but maybe that comes in the offseason. Or it doesn't and they whiff on the CF experiment again and then I'm going to just get a Savannah Bananas hat because they are a better run organization than this one.

100%

The Marlins can move all of Pablo, Cooper, Berti, Wendle, Rojas, Anderson (offseason trade for him likely), DLC, Bass, Bleier, Floro, Okert, Sulser, and E. Hernandez and effectively be 2023 buyers. This isn't a fire sale. None of those guys matter on paper for:

Fortes, Stallings
Lewin
Jazz
______, _____
______, Williams
Bleday
______, Sanchez
Garcia
Soler

Sandy, Luzardo, Cabrera, Rogers, Garrett
_____, Bender, Pop, Poteet, ______/Neidert(?)
Scott, _____, _____/Fishman/Nardi

They'll have added 15+ FV40(!) or better prospects from moving those guys above, and maybe more. They'll have minimum 2 centerpieces from that group and likely many RP options from this lot. The farm will legitimately be 30+ players deep at that point of guys at all levels. They'll have whatever they got for Pablo to add immediately, a deep farm 30+ legit players down to trade from, and free agency money (as that team above is $65m maybe at most. What's Bruce gonna spend?).

They only have themselves to blame if they suck. They have what they need to position to contend next year.

What's the reason to move Wendle ?

He is playing outstanding and will net decent FV45 and better assets.... that $6m he will make next year may be better devoted elsewhere.

Like you know how Garcia, Soler, and Aguilar = Carlos Correa but they opted to go with cheaper players than 1 longterm star?

Pablo, Bass, pick 2 of Berti/Wendle/Rojas/Anderson, Cooper = Swanson or Nimmo free agency money $$$$.

If trading those guys above nets you two longterm pieces and relievers.... it's a no brainer here. ASSUMING BRUCE SPENDS ANYTHING* They have the other pieces to fill those holes in that team I keep typing.

Yea...I don't disagree...it really feels like no direction and poor decision making as well...ie Avi and Soler.

Except Ng is going to hoard the prospects and we won’t trade for anything helpful.

Cue "endless rebuild cycle" frustration and "well the 2024 team will look great" vibes.

That being said, I'll take the bet there are 4 new starting position players next year (or a heavy platoon guy (Wendle level) if they happen to go Bleday-Sanchez-Garcia in the OF and they bring in a very legitimate 4th OF to presumably play against lefties, etc.)

Right now, I'm going to say

Anthony Rizzo
Nolan Gorman or Josh Jung or some other epic CC 3B (Pablo)
Ramon Laureano
I don't know the SS

Likely Nimmo/Swanson out of price range on a 5+ year deal, but Rizzo opts out and "comes home" for 3 years. Pablo gets the 3B and we ponder more why Berry was drafted. Laureano is an offseason trade as Oakland tries to up his value with a super hot September, etc. They keep one of Wendle/Rojas, and jettison the other with Aguilar, Cooper, Lewin, Berti, Anderson, Pablo, Bass, Floro, Okert, and Sulser.

Laureano doesn't cost much via prospects - so they use other minor assets for another SS to help Wendle/Rojas and ease in a year before taking over next.

Just a shot in the dark. Then nothing else major - cheap relievers. $85m and pray to god Sandy/Luzardo/Rogers/Cabrera/Garrett work out.

God if this is just leading to the acquisition of LaurPEDano, Rizzo, or Gorman...

Jesus...talk about avi/soler 2.0.

Who cares. They can save their money then...I'd rather they tear it down and stop pretending.

Another year of Jazz, Avi, JJ, Jesus doesn't make this team any better than maybe a couple of games over 500. This would just a repeat of this year with fingers crossed tighter.

To note - I'm trying to anticipate their cheapness + getting a good name at the same time. I'm not saying this is a good idea or what I'd do so I don't get yelled at*

That being said, I think there is a 99% chance Garcia, Bleday, and Sanchez get 1,500 PA next year if healthy. Those guys are going to play. I see the "upgrades" coming in CF and whoever they want to upgrade of Cooper/Lewin, Rojas/Wendle, and Wendle/Anderson/Berti in the infield.

It's likely going to be a repeat unless Bruce goes for $90m+ and that includes a real stud (Nimmo, etc.) and not 1-2 $30-50m free agents like Garcia/Soler.

I figured it out! They are listening on everyone, but not talking. Just heavy breathing into the phone as Sherman searches his couch for extra cash.

Might want to factor that into any equation.

Feels like the off-season all over again. Silence from the Marlins.

Maybe everyone else doesn't see the potential in this aging underachieving roster?

Lots of trades happening...I don't even see the Marlins being mentioned anywhere except these really sad broad statements..."Marlins are open to trade..."

I just picture an awkward kid hoping to make it into a pickup game holding a ball...or wanting to dance and no one is interested.

I can't wait to hear about Bleier being traded for cash considerations or a PTBNL just because another GM felt sorry for making Ng sit on hold for 45 minutes.
