The worst part about all of this is that Sherman KNEW this when he purchased the team. This isn't some revelation. Even someone like Loria could have miscalculated this when purchasing the team, as the Marlins were barely a decade old.... But come on. We've been a franchise for like 30 years. Anyone who purchases this team and expects attendance to increase without a competitive team is a fucking moron or an asshole

Joe Frisaro is currently on Twitter telling fans that they need to average 25-30,000 a game if they want the Marlins to increase payroll without acknowledging that the root of the problem is ownership/the front office.

Like it’s truly unbelievable that we can’t even average 25,000 a night to watch our great lineup. C’mon guys, what is wrong with this fanbase? Are you not entertained?

If it takes an attendance increase to improve this team then they'll never be good because the fans are waiting for a winner. Look away until we get an owner who stops using attendance as an excuse or as some kind of false starting point.

Case in point, and most obvious, Tampa.  It is not about attendance, it is about management and knowing what and how to run an organization.  

Marlins SHOULD listen on any player in the organization not named Sandy tbqfh.

The Panthers, playing HOCKEY in South Florida, have no problem spending to the cap, having their best player locked up long-term and just making a bold trade for a 24-year-old that they also signed after the trade for the next 8 years.

But Bruce Sherman and his $500 million net worth can’t support anything higher than a $55 million payroll.

Reminds me of the experience paradox.

Can’t get a job without having experience: can’t get experience without having a job.

 

In this case:

Can’t get a bigger payroll/better team without having 25,000 fans a game: can’t get 25,000 fans a game without getting a bigger payroll/better team.

 

And year after year of mediocre baseball, and always being 3-5 years away, except when those 3-5 years come, the roster is like 90% different but the same quality players pushing that 3-5 years away from competing back once again.

 

And that’s the life of a Marlins fan.

I would want to see the Marlins, even if they weren’t above .500, if they had an exciting team on the field, and at least made you feel like they had a chance every night. Case in point the 2006 team, chock full of rookies and other players nobody ever heard of, but still pretty exciting to watch and most games you felt like the Marlins had a chance to at least compete.

This current Marlins team, you only feel like that feeling when they play the Nats every few weeks, the rest of the time it’s like when you see the Marlins will play the Mets or Cardinals and you already know they will most likely lose the game even before the first pitch is thrown. 😔

If Musk bought the Marlins, he would probably move the team to Las Vegas or somewhere else.

Heck, they even needed a goalie when Luongo retired... and overpaid but got the best goalie on the market. Fingers crossed Bob bounces back or gets traded soon- but they have spent to stay competitive and to win. Marlins.... they were happy with the covid shortened season.
