Yep. 95% of the time a FA will go to the highest bidder. There are a few exceptions and vets without a ring in the twilight of their career usually fall into that lot but yeah...you offer the most you usually win the prize. Not rocket science.

The only time culture may come into play on a regular basis is when both offers are essentially the same then guys may choose based on things like location, chance at title, etc.. If I've said it once I've said it 1000 times. The Marlins are going to have to overpay to get a big name free agent to come to Miami and then buy into the Marlins to show guys that the Marlins are a legit franchise. Its you gotta pay for the sins of the father (really and now yourself) mentality. Until Sherman gives a fuck truly about winning in this sense any other exercise is pointless.

The last owner said fuck you to a local ownership group stuck his middle finger up and elected to sell to another carpet bagger from New York.
