Yes being cheap is Bruce's fault. Being incompetent is her fault. Bruce's spending has nothing to do with her thinking Avi Garcia is a 30 homer guy.

And that 30 homer mistake isn't something Bruce would actually know or care much about either so if Bruce told her it was ok to spend $50 million+ on an outfielder it's on her to choose the right guy. If anything, something Bruce does seem to have different than Loria is he doesn't tell the GM who they have to get. He seems pretty hands off on the specific baseball decisions. So that mistake is all on Kim.

It seemed like he might care last offseason after Jeter left.  But the complete absence of anything since makes it evident he doesn't care and can't afford it.

I'm gonna say Jeter kinda made the Avi signing even though Kim was GM at the time as it was clear he wanted Avi. I won't fault her for spending Bruce's money on that specific signing but she is still extremely incompetent beyond that specific instance.

I'm gonna put this on Kim. I don't think Bruce doesn't care, he's admitted he doesn't know the baseball stuff, that's why he let Jeter take the reigns... I think Bruce cares but his way is to sit back and let the baseball operations people do their thing because he doesn't think he has enough knowledge to stick his nose in that stuff. We have never heard a single instance of Bruce making baseball operations decisions. The problem is that right now he's let this passive sloth run the team right now. And we know Bruce has ok'd several contract offers this offseason, I'm putting it on Kim for not being able to close any deals.

Now how will we know the truth here? If Kim is extended after a shit 2023 then yes I'm flat out wrong here. But if Bruce cans her then I think he does care. We shall see. Also remember Bruce had no problem letting Jeter go since results weren't happening quick enough! That one said a lot to me.

Fangraphs actually has a pretty positive/generous outlook on 2023 matlins as is (20th in mlb)

The timing of when he left was absolutely Jeter walking away on his own but he was going into the last year of his contract and knew he wasn't gonna be renewed, that's Bruce.

This is fair.  The problem is he can't afford to "overrule" her and say "I don't care what it costs, sign one of the big FA's".

So since he doesn't know better and can't afford to chase the bigger fish, she goes after a smaller fish that sucks, but he trusts her, and says "ok, do it".

It'd be sucky timing for a new GM coming in, but after this offseason, she deserves to be fired.

True.  I've said before, I don't have a problem bringing him in since it's for the minimum, but it can't be the only move, which it's shaping up to be.

I had the same thought.  Apparently he had knee injuries last year.

I know this gets into the "why would they do that if nobody else comes here" argument, but they could offer a reasonable base salary with incentives based on plate appearances?

But with Bruce around, Hosmer's league minimum likely looks more appealing lol.

Segura would be cool
