January 30, 20233 yr This is a bit of a slick trade here. While he has struggled I think Bleier was pretty much a lock in our bullpen so I don't think anyone thought he'd be going anywhere. To trade him for somewhat of a flyer with high upside is kinda fun, kinda genius. I like this. Worst case scenario is Barnes is only as bad as Bleier's bad days. Potentially great move, a lateral move at worse.

Mish has that sum at about $1MM, to offset a portion of the $7.55MM salary that Barnes is owed in 2023 and the $2.5MM buyout on his $8MM club option for 2024. Bleier is due $3.5MM this season and carries a $3.75MM club option (or $250K buyout) for 2024.

January 30, 20233 yr Worth noting that he was pretty good in high and medium leverage last year. In low leverage he was pretty mediocre. So, bad in garbage time, but good when it mattered.

I guess you're one of those who would prefer to see how many games the Marlins might win in 3 years when Bleier gets his first real shot, totally cool with losing 95 games this season and next with the bullpen blowing 2 runs a game.

January 30, 20233 yr The Sox have been my A.L. team for years and I've watched Barnes it seems forever and most of it hasn't been impressive. He maybe a reclamation project at this point hopefully they can fix him enough to trade

Bleier is very mediocre at best, anyway. Yea, I took the easy joke. Actually looking at the player now, he is 32 and had a poor season last year. He also makes a lot of money apparently. There is a reason he was DFA’d last week. Bleier isn’t good either but I feel like free agent relievers may have offered better value, if we are actually spending.
