June 25, 20233 yr Late to this Kim extension talk but at this point she's more likely to get it than not. Totally understand that it might be too soon but for her to get more time to prove herself then she needs the extension. She hasn't done anything this year for her to not be extended. It would be really weird to not give her some credit for her contract year being better than her other years.

Yea I agree this would be ideal. Hey maybe Sherman's cheapness will help us here since he's gotta likely extend Skip in the relatively near future as well, maybe he short changes Kim a bit and she doesn't get too many years?

June 26, 20233 yr How many days did the 97 and 03 teams hold playoff spots for? Seems pretty un-Marlins to be in possession of a playoff spot for so long already and this early into the season. For sure 03 was more of a late season push. Can't remember off the top of my head how well the 97 team started in terms the wild card race.

Marlins are rarely ahead of the pack like this early in the summer. Most of our years in contention or close to it have been about mid season chases.

On this day in history: On June 25th, 2003 the Marlins had a record of 39-40 and in 4th place in the NL East and at least 7 games back of the Dodgers for the Wild Card. On June 25th, 1997 the Marlins had a record of 45-30 which was the second best record in all of the NL behind the Braves, and 1st place in the Wild Card standings.

On June 25, 2009 the Marlins were 38- 36 and 2.5 games back of the Giants for the Wild Card.

As I thought, generally speaking the 03 team was chasing most of the season. The 97 team was good but always behind the Braves. And other competitive years like 09 and 2016 had us chasing as well. So this year actually holding a playoff spot for a considerable amount of time in the first half of the season is rare for us.

And what's funny is that the 2009 and 2016 teams were both far superior to the 2023 club on paper.

I didn’t check for the full season. But in 97 I would imagine that the Marlins must have been holding a playoff spot for most of the first half. As I mentioned, they had a record of 40-35 at this point in the season which was a better record than all the other teams in the NL besides Atlanta and were just 2.5 games back in the NL East behind the Braves and 1st place in the wild card standings, and that was back when there was only one wild card spot. 😂

Barring an implosion, they've obviously improved, but clearly there's more work to be done too. With the improvement, I think (as of right now) she's earned a chance to see it further.
