Yeah, and we will have plenty of options next season.

Alcantara/Luzardo/Garrett/Perez/Rogers/Cabrera/Meyers/Weathers/Monteverde

Alcantara, Luzardo, and Garrett shouldn't have any restrictions next year. The rest of them will most likely have innings restrictions, but there are 6 of them.  You mix and match them between relief and rotation to mange those innings. Maybe sign another Cueto type?  Definitely not a priority.

After Perez there are no guarantees any of those guys will be successful. If one of the 4 get injured they’re in a jam again like this year.

and their 17th in era this year which isn’t very good.

getting a real sp3 would be my preference.

obvs I agree with you on massive ss/C black holes but there isn’t really anything on FA market

Yeah there is WAY too much unknown in that lot to not go hard after a good #3 type.

Yeah, but funds are limited.  At least we have internal options for SP.  We don't have any depth for position players. If we spend money, it can't be on our strength.

Pitching is middle of the pack. There's not really depth there either. I'm not gonna count untested guys who aren't even in the top 100 MLB prospects as legit MLB depth. Rogers and Cabrera are questionable too.

Noble Meyer should be in the rotation this weekend.

Pitching is middle of the pack with Sandy’s inexplicable first half and Eury spending the first 6 weeks of the season in the minors.

You could argue Luzardo overperformed, but I’m optimistic about his future.

Meyer is a top 100 prospect even with the TJ last I saw.

I don’t know that any of Rogers, Cabrera, Soriano, et al will become viable big league starters. But we have more talent and depth at SP than we do about SS and C, and I don’t think that’s disputable.

Any guys you’d want to target for that #3 SP slot? Just curious. I haven’t perused the free agent lists at all.

Alcantara, Luzardo, Cabrera, Weathers, Eury, and Meyer are all former top 100 prospects.  Garrett and Rogers are both high first round picks.  Rogers might have even been a top 100 prospect for a minute also. That really means nothing.

All of these guys are really talented and their only issue has been their work load.  That will not be as big of an issue next year. A healthy Rogers and Meyer should really help us next year.

The only two pitchers that have really struggled at the MLB level are Weathers and Cabrera and they are both still young.  I trust Mel to get the most out of them.

If we had the budget, sure go be the Mets.  But, we don't. We can't afford to spend much on pitching when we still have black holes in the lineup and very little depth after our starters.

Also, I'd rather roll the dice with our Young pitchers again than get another Cueto.  Because that's all we can really afford.

Soler might opt out.  Bell will probably not.  Best bet is to try and do short extensions for both.

Here's the deal though.  We have two black holes with no sure fixes in the minors.  SS and C should be our top priorities.  Even if Bell and/or Soler leave, we have options.  For example we have Troy Johnston ready to come up.  We could also move Arraez to first (not my first choice) and bring Edward's up to play 2nd.

I think our top FA targets should be Mitch Garver and Tom Murphy in that order. Our only hope at a future catcher in the minors is Banfield but his bat is far from a sure thing. If we sign Garver to a 4 year deal, his bat can also play at 1st base in 2025 if Bell has to be replaced.  Murphy will cost less than Garver.  He can always become the backup if Banfield becomes a viable option.

There aren't any great SS free agents in 23/24 FA class. That would have to be addressed with a trade.  Of course, we can just sign a temporary option with a good glove like IKF and let Amaya battle him for the position.   Defense should be the priority there.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Hopefully we've learned by now signing a 33 year old catcher is a bad idea.  Hopefully we've learned by now signing a 33-year old is a bad idea.

That being said, there are zero free agent catchers worth signing.  Better off diving deep and picking up a younger catcher blocked in another organization.

I see you're already spring training posting mode hyping up all our guys far more than they deserve like usual lol

He was a total train wreck before getting injured but he's had several serviceable outings since his return.

He's also been left out too long after relatively successful outings.

I'd argue that it should ALWAYS be a priority to sign one vet innings type guy. At worst he gets moved to the bullpen at some point. At best, he becomes "that guy" who helps you bridge injuries, innings limits, etc.  and if you're shitty come ASG time then you trade him if he's been doing ok.

Yeah, we always need that vet innings eater, and until this year, they've not gotten it.  We did get Cueto, but turned out it wasn't enough.

Absolutely agree.

Some of the young guys mentioned would also be on a pitch limit next year, no?  Like a Meyer or whomever.  How do you get those guys over the hump so they don't wear out during the season?  Obviously you'd rather have a reliable veteran pitcher.  Give me a rotation of Sandy, Eury, free agent, and the rest of them can be depth and fight for the final two spots.

I think Lizard is a top 25 SP and the sandy lizard eury is one of best 3 in NL. After that it’s really a crap shoot although Braxton is prob fine as SP4

Exactly!  Our top 4 are pretty much set for next year.  After that we have plenty of options.  Our depth was hurt this year by injuries to Meyer and Rogers.  With them back next year, plause Weathers, who in essence replaces Eder, there's really no need to go after a SP this off season. At least not an expensive option.

WE NEED BATS!!!!

Top 4 are "set" until inevitably at least one gets injured, which again, is why you need to get a decent vet as a signing.

I'm actually not.  I was refuting your point of top 100 prospects.

I see you are twisting my words to fit your narrative,  as usual.   😝

I just prefer to spend our limited resources on an actual area of need.

I'd be nice to have 10 quality veteran SP's for depth. It's just not realistic.  Just look at other teams rosters and you'll see were not in bad shape.

Except we say "we're set on pitching" every year, and EVERY year half the staff goes down and we end up needing pitching.

Obviously we need bats too, but a vet innings eater should NOT be overlooked.

JD Martinez is probably going to be who they sign if they sign a bat. That's assuming Soler opts out which he is very likely to do.

And in typical Marlins fashion, he'll finally completely forget how to hit the second he puts on the uniform lol

Is this said vet immune to injury?

Since the Angels are the pinnacle of success lol.

That's a desperation move because they've been so terrible and are trying to convince Ohtani to stay.

Thanks for proving my point about not having enough starting depth, bae 🥰

Again, just refuting your point about our young guys getting injured.  LOL
