idk i just dont like this feeling of arraez going on twitter or instagram or whatever it was with multiple posts about wanting to talk about an extension and thousands of fans commenting and showing their appreciation and hopes for extension and when bendix was asked about it, he just says 'i was only here a week'... im not saying they need to do a deal within a week, but how much time does it take to talk to him?? not even get a deal done but just so arraez knows its in bendix plans to set up a negotiation sometime. instead bendix says 'he wants to be here which is a good thing'. thats why players start to voice themselves on twitter and instagram now because being public like that creates a paper trail of the players' thoughts and feelings in the public that the team has to respond to.

Because that's the truth. There's a million things going on for Bendix right now and an extension for Arraez is in no way a priority right now. That can wait a bit.

I also think those questions in the presser were stupid because they're basically asking Bendix to tell the public what he is and isn't working on right now and I don't think any of that needs to be public knowledge, for multiple reasons. Let the guy do his job first and when things need to be made public they will be.

I disagree, I think keeping your best player on the franchise happy and cared about is more important than anything else. What are these 'million things' more important he could be concerned about now in November? Is he going to sign Blake Snell?? What exactly could he be doing right now that's more important than listening to Arraez?

I would say ...

 

1. Try and figure out catcher.

2. Try and figure out shortstop.

3. Try and figure out the back end of the rotation.

4. Arraez extension.

5. Try and figure out corner outfield.

6. Bullpen fillers.

 

So not quite a million things ... but the extension isn't numero uno. However, definitely get it done before Spring Training.

There's also several things that are literally priorities because of calendar deadlines... 40 man roster stuff, tendering or non tendering contracts, rule 5, etc... Arraez is on the team in 2024 with or without an extension, it doesn't need to be the priority right now. 

Bendix knows him.

Lol are you an alt account for @TaiwanMarlins.  Come on - literally a week into a new organization and you want the guy to offer/sign an extension just because the player says so?

Let the guy do some overall evaluation, address the time-sensitive items, and address more pressing issues.  An Arraez extension will be just as good in a few weeks.

I will say a move like that would be a good thing to do earlier in the offseason vs. later, as it can help entice FAs to come here ("oh look, they're extending good players, they have a long-term plan").

Yeah I agree with basically everyone else. No rush for the Arraez extension. Hopefully it happens but it is not an emergency.

They're currently shopping Scott Barlow - Mel magic?  He's set to make $7.1 M which may be high though.
