Analytics team used to be like 2 dudes, now there's much more and they're trying to get to the level of most-other clubs. He loves Gabe and thinks he has a lot of creative ideas. He vouched a lot for Griffin, says he's a very talented and hard-working player. Thinks Mesa Jr. will be up next year (if not traded). Wished Bleday, Nassim, and others worked out here. Really supports how much more this regime is into putting money on the international side. David Ott is the 2nd largest owner of the Marlins (prefers to be behind the scenes), he's very analytical/data-driven and might have clashed with Jeter (may be part of the reason Jeter left). I may or may not have confused some parts with this other podcast I listened to after that one...

October 10, 20241 yr Why do they need a analytics manager when the GM and partial owner already see to it? Wouldn’t the position of a manager be more suited as a mentor who gels with the players and has many games under his belt like a Joe Maddon? I think that’s much more valuable than a manager who has “creative ideas”.

"Reports" are that he is going to stay in the FO, so take that with a grain of salt seeing that it is coming from Fish on First.

I wonder who decided to have Burger leading off the last game of the year. I mean it’s not a big deal (last game) but if that’s the creative ideas Bendix is referring then he will probably be involved. Coincidently Skip didn’t even coach the final game either. I think the idea is that they’d want a manager that is more receptive to the analytics rather than someone that relies more on feel etc.

I may or may not have confused some parts with this other podcast I listened to after that one... This pretty much sums it up.It was an excellent interview with someone “on the inside”. I wish more could hear it. I felt like it would really shut up so many people who really think nothing is going on behind the scenes to try and win. I liked how he portrayed Kapler and if he’s right then Kapler staying in the front office sounds great to me. Sounds like he has more to offer there than on the field as manager. He spoke so highly of Mike Hill, it made me miss Mike! One of the biggest points was how the previous front offices just had analytics as one tool in the toolbox and that now Bendix is trying to really make analytics the “glue” of the entire plan.Overall it felt like the lasting message is that Bendix IS elevating the organization behind the scenes and this was great to hear from someone who worked under Hill and Kim so I believe his take. Now don’t get me started when he discussed how much money he was making as a baseball analyst compared to the job I do! It’s wild! Good for him but damn I chose the wrong line of work haha

Sounds like their source on this one is accurate. It could change of course but seems like Kapler is actually good at the front office stuff and seems to like the role.

Eh, there’s a bunch of cases of managers who don’t buy into the analytics fully and it creates a disconnect between the manager and FO. If you’re gonna go full analytics these days I do think it’s important to get the right manager for that.
