Who's To Blame? 5/19
So is it agreed if we should ever be so frustrated in the Marlins again the poll should be D-Bags of the Game? That might be clever if this were a Diamonbacks forum. I can't think of a good pun for us, but I would have no problem with "scapegoat of the game" because thats really what he is. ........"Smells like fish"? :lol Reminds me of a very funny story... but I should probably save it for the outfield... Cheech and Chong? Smells like s....

Carroll To AAA
Hope he gets some AB's and finds a groove, if the offense was producing more the team could afford to keep a defensive specialist. Now we get Hermida's misadventures in the outfield. What misadventures are you talking about? Hermida's been solid this year. How many can you think of besides that one day game where everyone on both teams were having problems in the outfield? We're more likely to have Coghlan misadventures, if anything. Maybe not misadventures, but the failure to make plays. A couple of times against Milwaukee, fly balls he just let drop-looks like a hit, but another outfielder with better instincts reads the ball and catches it. Unless Hermida gets consistent at the plate, in my mind, he costs us by letting innings continue.

Possible Tropical system near Florida in coming weeks
why do u sign up and pay? there are a million free sites that tell you the weather in great detail. I have links to a lot of them. Just liked the stuff over there during hurricane season. Much more detail than the weather channel. Weather underground gives you all the tropical stuff, satellites, discussions etc and official forecasts-but they don't scare you with dire warnings of guaranteed doom. Just don't give our moderators any ideas about charging for the premium marlinsbaseball.com, like the Herald now charges for the sunday tv week if you want it delivered with the sunday paper.

Possible Tropical system near Florida in coming weeks
haha, you made me look at accuweather.com to see if there is anything on their mind. During the season I subscribe to Joe Bastardi, and while he may be considered somewhat alarmist, he tries to back things up with his reasons. Anyway, I like the following from their site, basically saying nothing other than there may be less storms but then again a major storm cannot be ruled out. Duh, suffice to say, we all could forecast that a major hurricane can't be ruled out-that is why it is called "hurricane season". "Atlantic hurricane season officially begins June 1. Pre-season tropical storms are rare, but not unheard of; such storms occurred in May 2007 and April 2003. AccuWeather.com Chief Long-Range and Hurricane Forecaster Joe Bastardi has released an early hurricane season forecast for 2009 that will be updated in mid-May. It calls for fewer landfalls in the United States, as well as a lower overall number of named storms. However, storms may be more likely to form in the Atlantic Basin closer to the coast and the possibility of a major hurricane making landfall in the United States cannot be ruled out." You pay for accuweather? There's much better sites around the net that are free and have more knowledgable trained mets, and certainly not alarmist a la Bastardi, as they're not selling anything. . . In fact, I can already give you Bastardi's forecast. Once any storm forms, simply look at the various computer solutions. Then choose amongst Houston, New Orleans, Tampa, Miami, or New York. 1 of the 5 will be the center of Bastardi's projected target, and we'll be looking at a probable calamity. . . I just saved you a lot of money. Yea, every year about mid august, I sign up, get one free month and then pay for one or two and then cancel. Joe gets deep into stuff that is interesting. I don't always agree with his historic correlation, but he is the expert, I just like the meteorology from an amateur veiwpoint. Some of his comparisons to prior years is a stretch since older models missed a lot of important detail, but I do get a kick out of his stuff. Yet, I don't get the expensive package-I know he is big on selling his product for business applications. And I like being scared-like watching a sci fi movie. "Watch out Miami, you will be destroyed this year-maybe".

Amezaga
You just can't compare Amezaga to Hanley, yet it is easy to respect the question based on the fact that Amezaga's defense WINS games just as much as a clutch hit or hr does. In the outfield he is just good enough to do the job, but as an infielder, he is so natural, so instinctive that it is fun watching him. He is not thinking, just reacting. On the double play last night on the liner to Cantu, who then just turned and threw to AA, it did not seem like much but AA was right there at the crack of the bat in position for just what happened. I couldn't help but think that if Hanley was out there, would he have reacted, would he have been late to the bag or would he just have watched from the shortstop position and the inning would continue. Sure we don't know, but the thought does come up.

One word to describe mets fans
Listening to the fan in NY right now-boy are they ripping the mets, ripping Wright, ripping the manager for the debacle yesterday with Castro in the 9th. Saying this is been going on for 2 years, no heart. Wright is no longer the golden boy, he is the poster child for what is wrong with the team. Also, they say "lost" Castro yesterday, if not before, this was it, you just can't pinch hit a rookie catcher for the guy who has been playing the whole game and got 2 hits. Hey, try to get a clutch hit Wright, Reyes. Boy, this is fun stuff to listen to.

One word to describe mets fans
When I look at met fans with all the t shirts only covering half their belly, both men and women, because shirts are not made that round at the bottom, and walking like they are fill ins for a Planet of the Apes movie-I think of the word Shlubs.

Scott Olsen
does anyone else feel bad for this guy. he was one of my fave marlins when he played for us but now he's stuck in washington. the last two outing he had were good but the nats keep losing games for him. last season the marlins bullpen kept blowing it for him and now for the two games against us and the mets he loses because he plays for the nats. if i were the cardinals i'd trade for him because dave duncan can do miracles for pitchers and olsen had a good 06. although we could really use him as our 5th starter with miller failing at his so called "potential". maybe taylor will impress everyone. Scotty wanted to leave because he did not like the lack of attendance. He prefers to "huge" crowds in DC, like all those people disguised as seats that we saw on a nice weekend when we were playing there. All I can say is "enjoy it Scotty" you got what you wished for.

Going to Citifield today, anything I should know?
My two daughters went to shea last year and were seriously verbally abused-BUT- that is because it was fleece blanket night and my girls each got one and and people were p..offed that marlins fans got it and others were shut out. My kids told me people were ready to kill for those damn blankets, jumping over people and the employees just gave up and said "what the H L". Blankets were real nice-great to use as a rag to clean the car. If we had that as a giveaway, it would be like the old promotion day crowds for bobbleheads and cheap radios. Hey I was at that game, I sold my blankets and made enough to more than pay for my tickets. Also Sonata the players don't charge for autographs they either sign or don't sign. One of their friends really wanted one, so one of my daughter's let him have it and he took them out to dinner in return. It really was crazy there for that giveaway, wasn't it? My kids just basically said people were going insane grabbing and pulling and yelling-actually normal, like a typical NY crowd

Bonifacio, overrated?
40 errors? Even for a bad fielder that is a lot. I wonder if it was a real scout. Also, we know Boni's numbers have not been great but to assume that what we have seen is what he will be forever would remove countless quality players from ever achieving anything. Players grow, adjust, figure it out, get stronger etc. Boni will have to adjust to the high fastball and then if he can, what will they say. I am happy to watch this thing play out and that's it.

Tough schedule ahead...
I was looking at the schedule this morning and I noticed that 22 of the next 29 games are on the road. That's definitely a rough stretch by any estimation. I just wanted let people know to not panic if the next 29 games don't go as well as the first 6. Yeah. 13 of the last 16 games of the month. At least 6 of those are against the Nats and Pirates. Exactly! That's the way I look at it too. We should be able to take the series in those if not more. The series that will be tough is the Mets & Cubs. Certainly, past years really mean nothing, but we have done very well in Wrigley, and of course, there is always the Kevin Gregg factor.

Facts of the day
Fact #888 I think Anibal has the same car. What kind of car does Jeremy have? Corolla with a spoiler.

When will Hayden Penn make his Marlins debut?
It's a shame that Lindstrom wasn't unavailable on Friday night. Personally, and I said so to myself at the time, I would have left Nunez in the game to pitch the ninth. Period. This Marlin bullpen is outrageously bad. no way Nunez pitches into a third inning. Yea, this bullpen will give us fits, but it was the mets bullpen who gave up the lead run and then the winning run. Just keep K-rod off the field.

Why is Hermida coming out of games?
A good example is the catch Brett Carroll made to end the game on Wednesday. He made it harder than it should of been however what do u think the chances are that Hermida would have made that play? No chance hermi makes that play I disagree. Maybe Hermida wouldn't have taken one step back, split second hesitated, taken three steps to his left, and then gone forward and to the right to make the catch. Carroll made it harder than it had to be. In watching Carroll, he seems to have very good instincts and takes good routes. If he had trouble on the play then I would assume that all the factors, sun, the way the ball came off etc. would have completely fooled Hermida. Hermy maybe makes the play because he would freeze and the ball would just come to him.

Scott Olsen Hating
Scottie speaks some truth....I was at the game yesterday and I had a guy talking to my friend next to me on how attendance was "good" for being a 12:10 game.....IDK the attendance but it was so so in my eyes alot of empty seats, mosto f the attendance was made up by the kids....and hte man was saying people don't come because of how hot it is and stuff...there is some truth to it you want to be comfortable watching the team play but excuses like I get off of work at 5 i will never make it on time or stuff, other states do not seem to have that problem.....heck it was a horrible weather at the Reds vs Mets home opener and a great crowd was at hand Then you did not see the video from the game. The tickets were sold for the opener, but the place was no more than 1/2 full due to the weather. Yesterday the place looked just like Dolphin stadium and the paid att was only 13,568 (tickets sold) with maybe 5+ in the stands. This has nothing to do with defending Marlin attendance, but let's get the posts correct if you are going to make statements of "fact".

Scott Olsen Hating
and on and on the same boring attendance crap goes on from Scotty and the posters. I want baseball here and the attendance is what it is. But as far as Olsen, well, good luck, if his team is as bad as it looks and he sucks like he did the other day with his 88 mph fastball and his nothing changeup, then he will be playing in front of the same amount of people in DC, if he is still in the rotation. Gee, yesterday, 12000 in toronto, 18,000 in arizona, 13,000 in cincy against the mets-boring, isn't it, to list attendance figures.

Linstrom picks a new closer song
Nothing peronsal but their lyrics blow, the riffs are generic to say the least... I've yet to hear a creative guitar riff, drum beat, or lyric that anyone I know can't play. From a musical talent standpoint, its complete garbage... But I don't expect much from a music generation that who obsess over Lil Wayne, Nickelback and Flo Rida I obsess over a band named Dream Theater which is comprised of basically a virtuoso at every instrument... and I enjoy Disturbed. Dream Theater is outstanding-Progressive nation 09 is planned. Saw them last year at Filmore on the Beach, hope they come back and they fix the acoustics. Could not hear a word Labrie was singing. Anyway, seems this thread needs to be moved to the Media area.

An investment in his future
I like to hear about all the hard work Bonifacio put in, but does anyone really feel he's got any future as a thirdbaseman with the Marlins? I say this as he's not not going to put up the power numbers associated with 3b and appears better suited for middle infield. If we keep associating positions with general perceptions of the power numbers that should be ascribed to those positions, then fairly we should just say the power numbers exceed the norm for our second baseman, which offset Boni's numbers. Now the world is balanced again. Or should we just not play Uggla because his power numbers exceed the numbers associated with a middle infielder. The fact that Uggla is a better hitter than the average 2B should does not mean we should be satisfied with a 3B that is worse hitter than the average 3B. I can't disagree with that. It is just that the Marlins seem to have a plan for how they want their lineup to set up regarding speed and defense and thus are not locking into positional power figures. It is just that if Uggla was a third basemen and Boni was at second it seems we wouldn't have this discussion because this is more standard. Clearly the most important thing is that Boni has to produce, have an OBP that is higher than he has had and that his transition to 3rd base goes well, otherwise, we put Cantu back at third and just do not doze off if we sit on the 1rst base side.
