  1. The problem was not leaving him in too long, it was letting him face a LHB with the bases loaded. The first problem was having Molina intentionally walked to get to Huff with the bases loased. I mean, it allowed for the force at any base, put the double play in order, plus Bengie (who I agree is the weaker hitter) has been on fire lately and kinda kicks our ass historically. With all that together I don't see why it's such a problem. I have a problem with it because Badenhop is better vs RHB than vs LHB and Huff is a better than Molina vs RHP. Regarding Molina being hot, Huff has being hotter.

  3. This sucks as he'll probably get more face time on Fox baseball coverage.
  4. Also. Maybin and Coghlan are 1 & 2 among regulars in most pitches per PA. So I'm not sure one or the other is necessarily having better at bats. They jsut aren't having good outcomes. Coghlan is swinging more at 16% of balls outside of the strike zone (20.9% -> 36.5%, avg=25%), and is swinging the bat 9% more of the time (40.6% -> 49.4%, avg=45%). His first pitch strike% is up 7% (57.3% -> 64.1%, avg=58%) even though he's getting 4% less of pitches inside of the strike zone (50.4% -> 46.7%, avg=49%) Coghlan is getting so many pitches per pa because he's striking out so much. What he needs is to be more patient like he was last year, right now he's trying to force way too much. This year he already has 49 0-1 PAs. Last year he only had 51 0-1 PAs the entire season. This year he only has 2 1-0 PAs. Last year he had 30 1-0 PAs the entire season.
  5. Every jackass who chanted that should report to the Gulf for cleanup duty. Everyone who opposes drilling for oil but uses oil-related products deserves a kick in the nuts.
  6. The numbers say otherwise.
  7. Define "legit". Nunez converted 26 saves last year and he's off to a great start this year. Ok you are right. I was thinking of 2 seasons ago when Pinto literally pitched liked a pinto. I guess it is more of a setup guy or maybe their starters lose steam in the 5th. It just seems we have a lead almost every night and somehow we have an inning where we give up 4 runs. I do like Nunez and I actually liked Lindstom before we traded him, even though he blew a lot of saves and only had a fastball. I just get frustrated watching them play a good game only to have it ruined in later innings. But yeah, Nunez is legit..my bad. Pinto is not a problem as long as he continues allowing only a .637 OPS with runners on and a .703 OPS overall and only 28% of inherited runners to score.
  8. Andrew Miller seems like a lost cause at this point. I mean... what happened? I can't recall details, but he was a dominant college pitcher correct? Clearly his delivery worked back then, but what... he was tipping his pitches in the majors? Hitters found it too easy to hit him? All I know from watching him these last few years is... he can't throw strikes with any kind of consistency and his fastball isn't anywhere near the speed that it was supposed to be. Then we hear all the time "We've changed Miller's delivery etc." and yet he still can't throw strikes. Does it reach a point where it becomes "go back to what worked for him in college" or is that just not going to cut it in the majors for some of the above reasons? He had problems throwing strikes in college. He was fine his junior year but as a freshman and sophomore he averaged close to 5 walks per 9 innings.
  9. Full Question: In cases where there has being a lawful stop, detention or arrest in the enforcement of a law or ordinance not related to immigration and there's a suspicion that the person is an illegal alien should the officer make an attempt to determine the immigration status of the person?
  10. .259 / .315 / .341 / .656 plus subpar defense is very poor. Maybe later on as the season progresses he'll improve but so far he has done very poorly.
  11. That article does not accurately describe the new law.
  12. We have the second worst BB/K in the league, only ahead of the Astros. Ha, I was just going to write that. We're 29th. Tampa Bay is 11th.
  13. I thought it was illegal to ask questions about family members in a job interview.
  14. I think Ginn has had about 5 long TDs (plays of 50+ yards) called back because of penalties. I wonder how he would be viewed had those play no being called back.
  15. I don't really see how you can fault someone for doing what ever they can to play the game. Not saying he should have taken steroids, but I understand. [/Chris Rock] Also I remember one of our prospects being injured but having a PED suspension and there being questions if the suspension counted while he was on the DL, so I guess that answers that. I can't even remember who it is now though. I don't fault them either. I think the pitcher suspended while on the DL was Hnery Owens.. but not sure.
  16. I would say I'm fairly knowledgeable, yet I could actually imagine Stanton being better in the short terma nd perhaps the longterm. If Maybin's bat proves to be as useless as it was at the beginning of last year, it doesn't take a whole lot to be better than awful. And with Maybin and his sometimes lack of ability to hit the ball solidly, he's guilty until he proves himself innocent. But the real problem is that it simply would not be best for Stanton to be up here right now when he still needs to hone skills in the minors. In fact, Maybin is probably the most obvious example of what bringing prospects up early can do. Both Maybin and Miller were tremendously rushed by Detroit on talent that they were supposed to have but simply hadn't displayed enough of in the minor leagues to show that they were capable of holding their own at the major league level. While the stagnation of both players may have happened regardless, them trying to learn skills in the majors that they should have had time to learn in the minors can't have done them any favors. Here's what I find silly about this line of thinking: I think we can all agree Maybin's biggest problem is making contact. Mike Stanton struck out more often in the minors than Maybin. And yet you think Stanton will have less problems making contact when he faces major league pitching? That doesn't add up. To me his biggest problem is his extremely high ground ball rate.
  17. Ricky's problem was that when a hitter put the ball in play their BA was something like .361, which is way higher than you would expect given the line-drive rate, etc. In other words, Ricky's performance last year (ERA wise) was an EXTREME OUTLIER given his peripherals. If he can repeat his peripherals, the guy's going to be a Cy Young candidate. I have no idea why people always make excuses for Nolasco. According to fangraphs his babip was .336 and his LD% was 21.8%. The rule of thumb is to add .110 or .120 to the LD% to get the expected babip. If the rule of thumb is right then he wasn't unlucky.
  18. He inherited a tough situation but has made it worse. Unemployment is a couple of points higher than what he said it would be WITHOUT the $787 billion stimulus but amazingly the MSM still keeps saying the stimulus worked. The next round of porkmulus (to supposedly create jobs) will be another failure. It would be great if the Democrats lose the Senate but that's unlikely to happen. They'll keep 51 to 53 seats.
  19. http://www.minneapolisfed.org/publications_papers/studies/recession_perspective/index.cfm This site (Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis) has a few very informative graphs on the depth and length of the recession in terms of employment and GDP compared to the other post WWII recessions.
  20. I don't get the hate college football coaches get when they leave a school. Based on the fact he left I assume his contract allowed him to leave meaning he didn't violate his contract. People quit jobs all the time when better ones come along. Nothing wrong with that. If he quits in December people would complain he quit right before the bowl game. If he quits in January people would complain he quit right before national signing day. If he quits in February people would complain he quit after national signing day. People like to complain.
  21. Kaplan is good until he loses his temper, which happens a lot, making him unlistenable as he turns into the classic radio host bully who thinks every caller is a moron and who always has to get in the last word. So as long as he's in a good mood he's good to listen to.
  22. Merry Christmas.
  23. I don't remember the last time I watched a TV show. 1. The Price is Right 2. Columbo No order: Hogan's Heroes Sanford and Son The Odd Couple Alfred Hitchcock Presents All in the Family Seinfeld
  24. I watch a lot of movies so there's so many but these came to mind first: William Holden as Sefton - Stalag 17 William Holden as Shears - The Bridge on the River Kwai Humphrey Bogart as Sam Spade - Maltese Falcon Orson Welles as Harry Lime - The Third Man Clint Eastwood as Blondie - The Good, the Bad and the Ugly Grace Kelly as Tracy Samantha Lord - High Society Burt Lancaster as J.J. Hunsecker - Sweet Smell of Success Marilyn Monroe as Sugar Kane - Some Like It Hot Leslie Howard as Alan Squier - The Petrified Forest Naomi Watts as Betty Elms - Mulholland Dr.
  25. Wow, I think we agree on this. I think he has stuffed his pockets with revenue sharing money since the '06 season to the tune of ~$100 million and I think he'll probably use that money to help pay for his share of the stadium. What I don't like is your choice of words and maybe it's more me than you, but I'm offended by phraseology like "stuffed his pockets" because it has a connotation that I think doesn't apply here. To me stuffing ones pockets implies doing something illegal or nefarious or looting and I don't believe even you are suggesting he is doing any of those when you use that phrase, at least not from what you wrote. I know the way I phrase it has a negative connotation but it's not because I think Loria is doing anything illegal or unethical. He's trying to maximize his profits and there's nothing wrong with that. However, as a fan I would prefer if he spent the revenue sharing money on improving the team rather than profit accumulation. I would prefer an owner that put winning ahead of profits.
