Our next Closer?
According to Rodriguez in Sun-Sentinel.......Too much changeup Since he took over as manager, Rodriguez has used closer Leo Nunez four times and believes he knows the cause of Nunez's recent struggles: "He needs to go back to become a power pitcher, using more his fastball and slider. He is using his changeup way too much," Rodriguez said. Nunez has blown his past two save opportunities, giving up two runs in each, and Friday night it cost the Marlins a win, as a 3-2 lead turned into a 4-3 loss. Nunez was not so certain when asked about what went wrong. "The pitches were good. I think it was just one of those days," Nunez said.

Brian Barden DFA'd, Donnie Murphy called up.
Sun-Sentinel article-- Looking for offense Utility player Brian Barden was designated for assignment following Friday's game. Barden was a solid defensive player, but was hitting .179 (5 for 28) with 12 strikeouts. Replacing Barden is infielder Donnie Murphy, who is making his first appearance with the Marlins after being called up from Triple-A New Orleans. "I am looking for more offense than defense at that position. Donnie is more of an offensive player than Barden," Rodriguez said. Murphy was hitting .277 with 12 home runs and 35 RBI with New Orleans, where Rodriguez was manager before replacing Fredi Gonzalez on June 23. "I think he will bring not only power, but he is a better hitter than Barden," Rodriguez said. "This is the most power I have ever had in a season so far. I felt good. I was comfortable," said Murphy, who hit .351 in spring training.

Valentine Clarifies Statement
Jul02 Bobby Valentine clarifies his remarks towards the Florida Marlins Posted by: Brett Lahde | Comments 0 Comments and 0 Reactions Yesterday we talked about ESPN baseball analyst taking a shot at the Florida Marlins on the Baseball Tonight telecast. He said this: “If this is a major-league process, I hope I’m never in the process again. It’s very disturbing, confusing and it was insulting at times, but it’s over. Valentine clarified some of the remarks on Sirius XM’s Mad Dog Russo show on Thursday. This is what Valentine said: “You know, I mean, I was reading in the paper I wasn’t a candidate, you know? And I don’t really like that stuff. You know, we did have conversations and then the next thing I know their leaks have people writing things that I’m no longer a candidate and they’re going in another direction. Well, you know, if that’s the case tell me. I’m a big boy. It’s real easy. “To tell you the truth, the in-season stuff where you have all the rules and regulations that are set forth — rightfully so, I guess — by the commissioner that you have to interview so many different types of people from in and outside your organization before you’re allowed to hire a person you want to, it’s a pretty tough process. I don’t know that it’s tough. It doesn’t seem like it’s the way most industries do it. Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated says that Valentine would have been perfect for the young team. He adds, “Florida has now fired or lost six coaches and a manager since last September while achieving well beyond their payroll and perhaps even their talent.

Rumor: Octavio Dotel new closer?
Rumors for Florida Marlins Jul02 Florida Marlins have inquired about Octavio Dotel Posted by: Brett Lahde | Comments 0 Comments and 0 Reactions Ed Price of AOL Fanhouse says the Florida Marlins have inquired about Pittsburgh Pirates right-handed closer Octavio Dotel. The Marlins’ bullpen currently has a 4.66 ERA, 12 blown saves and 111 walks in 222 1/3 innings pitched and desparately need help if they want to compete in the NL East. Other relief options include Todd Coffey and Carlos Villanueva of the Milwaukee Brewers. The Brewers have let teams know that both of the pitchers are available. Price says that the Brewers are expected to decide early next week whether to sell off players and rebuilt or go for it and make acquisitions. Dotel, 36, is 2-1 with 17 saves and a 4.55 ERA this season with the Pirates. Possible FO/Loria not ready to throw in the towel on this season?? In same source: Florida Marlins: The team looks like they will stay competitive and not sell. If they become sellers, one exec wonders if Cody Ross and Dan Uggla could become available.

Some are probably wondering if they are next. Or at least they should be worrying about it.

Better than Bo Porter. I couldn't believe the Marlins would seriously consider Bo. Because Bo left the Marlins after turning down a contract, it makes me wonder if they low balled him hoping he would pass. I just wish Dave Collins would have stayed. Loria made it sound that whoever came up as coaches will remain the rest of the year along with Edwin. Although I am not happy we didn't get a coach with major league experience, this gives Loria/Samson/FO time to really interview AFTER they determine the direction they want to head going into the new stadium. Hopefully they will have plans A, B, AND C.

QUICK---ANYBODY A PRIEST OR KNOW ONE???? AN EXORCISM PRAYER WARNING: TO BE SAID BY A PRIEST ONLY This is a prayer against Satan and his rebellious angels. It was published by the Order of His Holiness Pope Leo XIII. This simple prayer must be said by a priest only. The term "exorcism"" does NOT always denote a solemn exorcism involving a person possessed by the devil. In general, the term denotes prayers to "curb the power of the devil and prevent him from doing harm." As St. Peter had written in Holy Scripture, "your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, goes about seeking whom he may devour." [1 St.Pet. 5:8] The Holy Father exhorts priests to say this prayer as often as possible, as a simple exorcism to curb the power of the devil and prevent him from doing harm. The faithful also may say it in their own name, for the same purpose, as any approved prayer. Its use is recommended whenever action of the devil is suspected, causing malice in men, violent temptations and even storms and various calamities. It could be used as a solemn exorcism (an official and public ceremony, in Latin), to expel the devil. It would then be said by a priest, in the name of the Church and only with a Bishop's permission. Prayer to St. Michael the ArchangelIn the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen. Most glorious Prince of the Heavenly Armies, Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in "our battle against principalities and powers, against the rulers of this world of darkness, against the spirits of wickedness in the high places" [Eph., 6:12].Come to the assistance of men whom God has created to His likeness and whom He has redeemed at a great price from the tyranny of the devil. The Holy Church venerates you as her guardian and protector; to you, the Lord has entrusted the souls of the redeemed to be led into heaven. Pray therefore the God of Peace to crush Satan beneath our feet, that he may no longer retain men captive and do injury to the Church. Offer our prayers to the Most High, that without delay they may draw His mercy down upon us; take hold of "the dragon, the old serpent, which is the devil and Satan," bind him and cast him into the bottomless pit "that he may no longer seduce the nations." [Rev. 20:2-3] ExorcismIn the Name of Jesus Christ, our God and Lord, strengthened by the intercession of the Immaculate Virgin Mary, Mother of God, of Blessed Michael the Archangel, of the Blessed Apostles Peter and Paul and all the Saints. and powerful in the holy authority of our ministry,we confidently undertake to repulse the attacks and deceits of the devil. God arises; His enemies are scattered and those who hate Him flee before Him. As smoke is driven away, so are they driven; as wax melts before the fire, so the wicked perish at the presence of God. V. Behold the Cross of the Lord, flee bands of enemies. R. The Lion of the tribe of Juda, the offspring of David, hath conquered. V. May Thy mercy, Lord, descend upon us. R. As great as our hope in Thee. We drive you from us, whoever you may be, unclean spirits, all satanic powers, all infernal invaders, all wicked legions, assemblies and sects. In the Name and by the power of Our Lord Jesus Christ, + may you be snatched away and driven from the Church of God and from the souls made to the image and likeness of God and redeemed by the Precious Blood of the Divine Lamb. + Most cunning serpent, you shall no more dare to deceive the human race, persecute the Church, torment God's elect and sift them as wheat. + The Most High God commands you, + He with whom, in your great insolence, you still claim to be equal. "God who wants all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth." [1 Tim. 2:4)God the Father commands you. + God the Son commands you. + God the Holy Ghost commands you. + Christ, God's Word made flesh, commands you; + He who to save our race outdone through your envy, "humbled Himself, becoming obedient even unto death" [Phil. 2:8); He who has built His Church on the firm rock and declared that the gates of hell shall not prevail against Her, because He will dwell with Her "all days even to the end of the world." [Mt. 28:20]The sacred Sign of the Cross commands you, + as does also the power of the mysteries of the Christian Faith. + The glorious Mother of God, the Virgin Mary, commands you; + she who by her humility and from the first moment of her Immaculate Conception crushed your proud head. The faith of the holy Apostles Peter and Paul, and of the other Apostles commands you. + The blood of the Martyrs and the pious intercession of all the Saints command you. + Thus, cursed dragon, and you, diabolical legions, we adjure you by the living God, + by the true God, + by the holy God, + by the God "who so loved the world that He gave up His only Son, that every soul believing in Him might not perish but have life everlasting;" [st.Jn. 3:16]stop deceiving human creatures and pouring out to them the poison of eternal damnation; stop harming the Church and hindering her liberty. Begone, Satan, inventor and master of all deceit, enemy of man's salvation. Give place to Christ in Whom you have found none of your works; give place to the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church acquired by Christ at the price of His Blood. Stoop beneath the all-powerful Hand of God; tremble and flee when we invoke the Holy and terrible Name of Jesus, this Name which causes hell to tremble, this Name to which the Virtues, Powers and Dominations of heaven are humbly submissive, this Name which the Cherubim and Seraphim praise unceasingly repeating: Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord, the God of Hosts. V. O Lord, hear my prayer. R. And let my cry come unto Thee. V. May the Lord be with thee. R. And with thy spirit. Let us pray. God of heaven, God of earth, God of Angels, God of Archangels, God of Patriarchs, God of Prophets, God of Apostles, God of Martyrs, God of Confessors, God of Virgins, God who has power to give life after death and rest after work: because there is no other God than Thee and there can be no other, for Thou art the Creator of all things, visible and invisible, of Whose reign there shall be no end, we humbly prostrate ourselves before Thy glorious Majesty and we beseech Thee to deliver us by Thy power from all the tyranny of the infernal spirits, from their snares, their lies and their furious wickedness. Deign, O Lord, to grant us Thy powerful protection and to keep us safe and sound. We beseech Thee through Jesus Christ Our Lord. Amen. V. From the snares of the devil, R. Deliver us, O Lord. V. That Thy Church may serve Thee in peace and liberty: R. We beseech Thee to hear us.V. That Thou may crush down all enemies of Thy Church: R. We beseech Thee to hear us. (Holy water is sprinkled in the place where we may be.)

JJ's ERA
And we're still 36-40!!! Why... where did you get that information from? Judging the two ROTY batting... the NL batting title... and the ace pitching we've gotten I'd imagine we're in first place. When you state it that way it is sad we are 4 games under .500. It doesn't make sense!!!

Ticket Prices
I went by last weekend. It is awesome and surprising so much is done already. The stadium looks so huge for the property. How many parking spaces are there going to be? I don't see where they can put a parking garage. I'm a little worried of making the trip down there just find out there is no place to park. Not certain I want to park on any place on the street/someone's grass. Not sure there is much place to park  Does anyone have an update on the garages and the little dispute over them? I also saw some drawings that had parking lots adjacent of the grounds. Any word on those? Parking availability and pricing is going to be one of the many questions I have for the 6th. And probably where we will get alot of non-answers. I'm really concerned about leaving that area after a game because of the way the streets are. Just seems like it will be the traffic jam from hell. Pretty sure this http://www.miamihera...http://www.miamiherald.com/2010/04/23/1593688/after-delay-miami-officials-prepare.html answers all those questions. Let’s see. 6000 parking spaces for a 37000 seat stadium. That’s over 6 people a car. Where’s the share-a-ride parking lot? Or the trolley station?? Are the Marlins fan base going to become bosom buddies and catch rides? That would solve parking prices—we’ll share the cost!! Drove around the neighborhood and didn’t see any changes like someone buying up land. Streets are most residential so frequent stops and narrow. Still worried how to get there or out of there. Don't worry-getting there, parking and getting out of there was a workable problem for many years when 80,025 filled the OB regularly. But, you have to know the area, and for a small fee I can get you in and out and in N. Dade by 25 minutes after the last pitch. The area is a grid, there are multiple streets rather than one way in and out. Frankly, when the canes or fins had about 37,000 people at a game, it was like no one was there when it came to leaving. I just do not see it as an issue. Cool. Remind us as the date gets closer regarding you small advice fee.

Did Loria and the FO set Freddi up ?
Why wouldn't they just fire him in the offseason? Well that is the million dollar question isn't it ? This whole thing just doesn't seem to be making any sense. That is why I am trying to grab at straws, anything to make sense of it. Why did they fire Freddi when they did when its been obvious they didn't have anyone in place to come right in ? The timing is just screwed up and its all making the Marlins FO and Loria look even more Mickey Mouse than they already are percieved. I don't know if you relize it, most MLB fans accross the country think our team and especially owner are a joke. How also does this messy situation play out this close to the new stadium being opened ? The team doesn't seem to have any distinct plan for 2012. Its not like its a big deal to them, other than it will produce more revenue (supposedly). Did it ever occur to you that Loria actually wants to win? The team was 34-36 after an 87 win season. Loria might not spend much money, but the fact he's at almost every home game makes you think he cares, somewhat. You're making a big deal about this for no reason. Who cares? He got rid of Fredi Gonzalez, not Josh Johnson. Its a known fact Loria wanted Freddi out after last season. He talked to Valentine about it, and that is well known as well. If Loria had fired Freddi after an 87 win season, it would have been a sh*tstorm worse than after firing Girardi. He couldn't do that, as MLB would start getting involved. They do have a stake in what goes on in every one of their franchises. Not a monetary one, but they don't wish it to be a total sh*thole (Pittsburgh is an exception I guess). So perhaps they set Freddi up in the expectations that this team would tank, and then getting rid of Freddi doesn't look so bad. Not saying this is what happened, but just speculating it could have happened. Just a theory, just like the theory that Loria wants to win, we hear about it all the time, yet haven't seen proof of it for years now. :shifty Loria stood the storm when he fired Girardi after Girardi winning NL coach of the year. Now true it is a little different but I don't think if the FO wasn't so adamently opposed to firing Fredi in the offseason it would have happened before this season. If I remember correctly there were several members here who wanted Fredi ousted last year. So I don't agree there would have been such a firestorm. So Loria gets ridiculed by the media? Won't be the first time and probably won't be the last. It's interesting who has gained support in the last few years has been Samson and how he worked/talked gaining us the stadium. He had a lot more potential than I could imagine. But that's another subject. Beinfest admitted in his 790theticket interview HE went to the others in the FO and then Loria after Beinfest realized "something was missing" while the team was playing in Texas. It wasn't Loria clamoring for the firing this time.

6/27 Post Game
We have 87 games to go. Although the core of this team have been together since 2006, we lack some outside experienced members. For example, in 2003 we had Pudge, Niner, Castillo, and Lowell among others. And they had some homegrowns such as DTrain and Miggy. I agree this team is playing flat; at least one doesn't appear to care (maybe because he is making the most, a primadona, and the owner's pet) but others have heart. I think we can do better if someone can make them play as a team and do the small things. For whatever reason we can't do more than 2 hits in a row . Some one needs to them back to the basics. Maybe it is too late this year, but if we are in contention until September, I'll take it after the start this year. Maybe the hope is to build for next year.

6/27 Post Game
Let's look at today in 2003 as that's when our manager was fired mid-year (and he was a good friend of Loria, lol). The Marlins were 4th place just one game under .500 (40-41) and 12 games out of first with Atlanta in first place. We were in 9th in the wildcard. There were 81 games to go. Now we're 5 games below .500 (35-40) in 4th place with 87 games to go and 8.5 games out of first with Atlanta in first place. Today we are in 7th place in the wildcard. Can it happen again? I guess that all depends on what Beinfest and Loria do over the next couple of weeks.

Ticket Prices
One possibility would be turning the traffic all going out after the game. At The University of Michigan football games, many main streets are heading in one direction away from the stadium after the game. It allows over 100K of fans leave the area in less than a half hour. Of course it helps most of these streets are more than two lanes in commercial area and not like the Orange Bowl site with mostly residential streets around it.

Bobby Valentine News and Rumors
Tracy Ringosbly has an article on FoxSports on how perfect is Bobby V for the Marlins. Also stated although Loria wanted Freddi fired in the postseason it was members of his staff (FO??) who talked him out of it. The article states"Valentine also will provide a test of patience for club president of baseball operations Admin Beinfest and general manager Michael Hill. His firing by the Mets stemmed from challenges with the front office, and twice he was fired in Japan — after a one-year tour in 1995, and then again in 2009 after his second tenure ." Sounds to me there is a strong possibility the same group talked Loria out of Valentine. Maybe it will be Rodriguez leading the Marlins. At least he knows the organization (short- and long-term goals) and some of the players because they playted under him. But it still doesn't mean I wouldn't rather want some strong manager to put some order in this fiasco of this team.
