Beckett and Lowell traded to Red Sox

Featured Replies

Someone tell me about Ramirez, I don't know anything about him, scouting report?

How is he defensively/offensively?

in a couple years, he will probably be considered the best player in this trade.

Pitching wins championships. When did our FO forget that? All of those guys gone, and what to show for it?

Some draft pick

Lo Duca, Mota + Encarnacion - Encarnacion out, Mota in the sh*t house and Lo Duca on the way out

Some draft pick

Prospects.

You've gotta be kidding me.

You forget we have tremendous pitching talent in our system. Thats what allows our front office to go out and do deals like this.

Really? You think we have one capable of shutting out the Yankees to win the WS? You think guys like that grow on trees?

Good to see Marlins are paying a chunk of Lowell's salary according to ESPN article...

Are. You. f***ing. Serious.

We were negotiating with a team that DOESN'T EVEN HAVE A f***ING GM! And you have to pay part of Mike Lowell's salary?

Holy crap my f***ing dog could do a better job with this f***ing team.

Stability. That's all I f***ing ask. Sta-bi-li-ty.

In a word... :lol

Paying any part of Lowell's salary is unaccpetable. From the Red Sox perspective, they should look at half of Lowell's salary as Beckett's salary since he comes dirt cheap. Plus, I'm also of the opinion that Mike can put up some nice stats with the Monster intercepting all the warning-track-fly-balls that he hit this past year. It's very possible he'll be able to do some decent things in Boston. Why should we pay any of his salary?

It's possible. I doubt anybody thought he could do it then, and you never know how good the rest of the guys in the system could be.

Gammons is talking about it on ESPN news.. Can any one summerize what he is saying.. I cant bare to watch it :crying

Ouch, talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face. Give away Beckett to get rid of Lowell's salary ... and the Sox aren't even picking up all of it.

Really? You think we have one capable of shutting out the Yankees to win the WS? You think guys like that grow on trees? Anibal Sanchez is a future ace. We have quite a few guys in the system like Garcia from Single A, Scott Olsen to name a few. And its not like the DTrain disappeared. OR did he?

Great post. I think you hit it on the head.

This is the difference between the Marlins and the A's. The A's kept their young, cheap ace (Harden), replaced the older, less talented ones (Hudson, Mulder) with minor leaguers they built up and what they got in return for trades, and kept one (Zito).

The marlins were always vacilating on what they wanted to do, and that came back to really hurt them now and in the long run.

No use crying like little babies. It's over with.. Accept it.

Uh, don't tell me what to do. I'm actually here and have been loyal to this team, which happens to be my hometeam, since the start. I paid a lot of my hard-earned money to this team. I've been through this before and it's even more painful the second time around. I happen to believe this is a special player we just lost. I don't have to like this. It hurts and if I want to cry "like little babies" I will.

I don't know about about future ace more like 3 starter or good power reliver. He's only 6 feet tall and has a history or shoulders problem's. Still very talented.

sigh.... I wouldve loved to see D-Train and Beckett for a long, long time.... I wouldve preferred Delgado + Lo Duca to be out of here before Beckett, but we have no choice over the matter, so I guess im gonna have to change my sig now....

But no matter what happens, Beckett will forever be remembered as "The MAN" from that 2003 championship, and Lowell was as important to that championship as anybody, monster season even though it was cut short. It was the reward of the "down years" Ill never forget watching, and I will wish them the best of luck as they move on.

That being said, I am F*N GLAD we got who we got. MUCH better than that Texas deal. God-willing, Han-Ram becomes the stud shortstop everyone expects him to be and Anibel becomes an ace-quality type of pitcher, and he certainly has the stuff to be one.

I expect things to be tough from here on out. We have the talent, we will get better, and I believe it is a cycle that is starting over again. I will continue watching this team even if they go 20-142, I dont care, Ive been thru this stuff before.

This is me playing the worlds smallest fiddle for you. I don't give a hell where you live. They're still my team too. The "ARE YOU f***ING SERIOUS OHHHH MY GOD" posts are ridiculous.

Maybe if the people that lived there actually went to the games we wouldn't be in this position.

I hope Sanchez will be and I hope all our young guys develop into studs. The point is we don't know if we're going to get lucky whereas we know what Beckett developed into and we also know that he is still young and still cheap. Like I said before, the only way this makes sense is if there is an arm problem we don't know about.

sad to see josh go..

but thats the nature of cheering for a small market team.

at least the FO made this trade and not the Texas one.

good luck in boston mike and josh, and thanks for the memories

i am excited to get hanley and anibal..

im also still holding out hope that with these cost cutting moves we are able to keep delgado

What's ridiculous is constantly telling people who go to games that people should go to games. And the reasons why we are in this position were explained very well by Marlins2003 in another thread but better not to even go there. And your quote in caps above certainly isn't mine. Feel free to play your fiddle but there is no need to tell people how to feel.

This gives us an opportunity to populate AA, and more importantly AAA, with players who have a legitimate chance to become major leaguers.

For too long the Albuquerque Isotopes have been a team of not ever ready for primetime players. With a few more trades we'll have a group of players who can grow together and provide a nucleus for future Marlins teams at both the AA and AAA levels.

Give Beinfest credit for looking to the future and not settling for guys with minimal skills. Let's face it, saving $25-30 million (depending on how much we absorb of Lowell's contract) over the next couple of years is vitally important to the future of this franchise.

We now know who our third baseman is. Miguel Cabrera. We know Jeremy Hermida is our right fielder. And unless he's hit by a bus, our SS seems destined to be (if not in 2006), Hanley Ramirez. As each deal goes down one more position will be solidified until we have a competitive team that ultimately brings us another title.

I understand the pain many people feel, especially for Josh Beckett, a special human being and a fierce competitor. But such is life.

A week ago I wrote that it was time for Beinfest to get on the stick and start making deals. Never in my wildest imagination did I expect this deal, but it's done, and overall I'm satisfied. A well respected righthanded pitcher, a high ceiling SS prospect, not a bad day's work.

It's not time to stop now. Keep going Admin.

Mikey and Josh thanks for your time...sorry to see you guys go...will miss my fav. marlin of all time in Mikey...but i see this move as a move for the future...GO FISH

Im ecstatic.

I do think this works well for both teams, all things considered.

Scouting Report from soxprospects.com

Scouting Report: Athletic five-tool shortstop with great instincts, above average speed, and all-star potential. Makes excellent contact. Very good range with a top-notch arm. Displays power potential, but the numbers have yet to show it. Had some disciplinary problems earlier in his career, many of which have been attributed to dealing with a great deal of hype and earlier immaturity. Has been a model citizen in recent seasons. Almost all reports have listed Ramirez as the #1 prospect in the organization for years now - he signed at the age of sixteen. It has also been said that Hanley enjoys playing in front of large crowds, which actually has been reflected in his stats. He loves playing the game and almost always wears a smile on his face. He has adjusted well at nearly every level, improving his game preparation and self discipline annually. He has the tools and abilities to switch to center field or third base down the line. Highest ceiling in organization.
