I hate it

Featured Replies

Im watching BBTN and Carl Ravach was talking about the Young LH Starting pitchers that are starting today and he brings up the Dontrelle and he says "If the marlins werent so horrid he would have more wins and an era is a respectable 3.96 with a very bad defense"

WTF I love the hate when we are 1 game behind the Astros and they still believe that they can come back.

Im not saying that we are going to win the Wild Card because I dont think we will leap frog all those teams but to call us horrible is just stupid.

Yeah, ESPN's baseball coverage is a bunch of elitist garbage.

Ravech also wistfully said something about how Dontrelle could have been helping a team in a wildcard race right now, but instead he's on the Marlins, who "have been terrible." Emphasis his.

And just because we're used to hearing the filth that doesn't mean the filth is any less irritating. I'd tune out, but unfortunately there aren't any sports news alternatives for me to watch, so right now all I can do is kvetch.

Thread #4930204 saying how ESPN sucks......stop watching it then.....stop beating a dead horse...you sound foolish doing it.

That's the problem. For quite a few years now ESPN has had a monopoly on sports television. So even though their coverage has progressively gone further and further down the crapper, nothing's really going to change because die-hard sports fans like us aren't going to tune out. What are we going to watch? The Best Damn Sports Show Period? Ha!

Attention readers as of right now we are not a wild card contender. If we get to .500 then we can start talking about the wild card. Espn will then say we are playing good. Why are they going to waste time prasing a team that is 8 games under .500?

He's right. Early on in the season I remember that people were scoring a buch of runs of willis on balls that should have being caught, but they werent. The worst part was that they werent really errors and his ERA went sky high.

if he get run support, and if he had good defense behind him he would have a better era

today is another example of that once more. He would of been out of some of those innings and wouldnt of been extended so much and all here.

That's not the first I have heard that. Remember 2003 and how an underdog team cameback to win the wildcard and the WS. Im not saying we are gonna take the Wc but they have to give credit to our guys for what they have accomplish so soon. Im proud to be a Marlin fan! :hat

Watch the games. We do have a bad defense. Bad baserunning too. The offense is ok, and the pitching is good. The whole team is going through a learning curve.

While I don't agree with Ravach, and his poisonous comments regarding the Fish have become commonplace, in particular Hanley Ramirez played one of the worst games I've seen in long time. His airmails to first, his horrid play in general refusing to circle grounders, hogging popups called for by others (one of which he handled so nonchalantly he almost dropped it), and worst of all in the third inning when a throw came in from the outfield with a man on second, he just stood there and watched it run by left foot, forcing Cabrera to come off the base and shag it down which could have let the runner move to third.

Needless to say Cabrera was none too happy and verbally chastised Hanley for about a minute or so, to the point where I thought for a second Miggy was going to get in his face right there in the infield.

But the point was well taken today, even if it was just coincidental Willis was pitching. You can't let any team have four or more outs in an inning, Pittsburgh or anyone, and expect to win with any regularity.

We were lucky today, it was an ugly and uninspired game some Marlins played today, even though we eventually came out on top.

you gotta be kidding me dude.

& screw Ravetch. The Marlins are anything but terrible.

hahahaha. wheres that quote in your sig from?

As far as I'm concerned, ESPN can trash talk the Marlins all they want...when they do win, it just makes being a true Marlins fan all that sweeter. Besides, I'm sure the players know what they are saying and they probably feed off that.

Someone said that we need to get to .500 before ESPN should start saying we're playing good. But they said that the Astros are still in the WC race and we are only 1 game behind them. If we are not in contention, then the Astros are not in contention.

The issue with ESPN's misinformation/bias goes beyond a simple difference of opinion, my friends.

When a popular media outlet consistently informs viewers that "X" team is awful (true or not), it adversely affects "X" team's ratings, advertising revenue and attendance, among other things.

As any seasoned entrepreneur will tell you, bad press* is bad for business.

*Or, in this case, the semblance of.

Of course, we shouldn't personally care what any of the fools at ESPN thinks of the Marlins. But, from a business standpoint, we definitely should care about what they say.

For everyone who always makes the remarks such as 'stop bitching bout espn' or 'if you dont like it dont watch', first of all those arent original thoughts and whether you like it or not ppl will keep complaining about these things.

Furthermore, no one s bitching, whining nor is anyone 'too sensitive' This is a discussion board. The purpose is to discuss all things marlins, so when anyone in media mentions them, it should be discussed here. So when something negative is mentioned, it's good to discuss what was said, why it was said, and why theyre right or wrong. Thats what discussion boards are for

Precisely why their negative coverage of the Marlins really bothers me. I know plenty of idiots who go by just what ESPN says and they'd be going to games and looking at us a lot differently if ESPN just gave us the credit we deserved, not kissing our asses or exaggerating anything. I know way too many people that, thanks to ESPN, think the only teams in baseball are the Yankees and Red Sox.

If they sit there and watch all that Baseball Tonight but can't even open the paper to check the standings, I'd stop hanging around these guys. That kind of stupidity might be contagious ;) .

yes they might be stupid, but there stupiditity is keeping them from the game, which in turn is keeping there money away from an allready financially strapped marlins, the marlins need as much good press as they can get.

I've seen worse. Sports Illustrated had around a 4 page article a few weeks back on rookies being so widely used this year, and the Marlins were barely mentioned(I actually dont think they were mentioned at all).

yeah...that sports magazine that stopped covering baseball also picked the marlins to be dead last this year, even after KC...morons
