October 18, 200620 yr http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/ Well the mets are going to be out of the playoffs tomorrow (hopefully). So I guess it is time for them to continue to talk about acquiring D-Train from us. According to here Milledge in a package for Dontrelle. Latest Mets Buzz I spoke to my Mets source recently, so here's the latest buzz around the team. As has been reported in several places, Tom Glavine plans on returning to the Braves. I'm told a "handshake agreement" is in place. If the playoff excitement can't change his mind, the Mets will take a look at Barry Zito and Mark Mulder. Orlando Hernandez may be re-signed and of course Steve Trachsel is a goner. Beyond that, the Mets have many in-house starting pitching options. The Mets still like outfielder Lastings Milledge even with the problems he's had in the clubhouse. The only way he'd be dealt is if Dontrelle Willis comes in return. Should Willis become available, the Mets will be all over it. If Milledge is traded to Florida, to team is high on David Dellucci for left field. Alfonso Soriano is not on the radar. Have I ever mentioned I hate the mets? :mad
October 18, 200620 yr I hate them too, they're like the jets of baseball. Heck, even their stupid names rhyme. Hopefully they will only be able to acquire Dontrelle in their dreams.
October 18, 200620 yr Whoever posted this is obviously a Mets fan. He was reporting the same BS before the trade deadline.
October 18, 200620 yr First of all, I'll be shocked if Glavine leaves. The Mets have an option on him and even if it is expsnsive, it's still just money...no way the Mets let their most effective pitcher leave in an offseason when they desperately need pitching. Secondly, Milledge didn't get it done then, won't get it done now. Dontrelle's not getting dealt, and if he is, there's no way the Mets have enough pieces.
October 18, 200620 yr This really isn't any breaking news. Doesn't this kind of talk go on 365 days a year in New York? They are living a dream up there.
October 18, 200620 yr I would suggest that for all of us here at MB.com, mlbtraderumors.com could be the least legitimate site for bonafide trade news on the web. As such, taking anything they write as gospel should be done at your own peril. Yes, the will be a ton of Dontrelle to ______ rumors but mltraderumors.com will most likely be the last place you'll find out about them if they're true. I know I've got my opinion, but I'm curious - how do others feel about having Milledge on the Marlins (putting the Dontrelle thing aside for a moment)? Do you think he'd fit in? Will he ever mature, both psychologically and on the field into a elite player?
October 18, 200620 yr :lol no way in hell i do this! Its crap anyway so nothing new but the same BS ive heard over and over again
October 18, 200620 yr I dont think Milledge gets it done by himself. Or if the Mets have anything to package along with Milledge.

I think he is a "me first" type of guy that wants the spotlight and stardom more then caring for his team-mates. Personally I would much rather have chris young from Arizona if I was gonna move Willis
October 18, 200620 yr I'll take Milledgem for two reasons and under one condition. Reasons 1) He's got the tools to be a decent OF, if not a Great one. 2) He's Just like Dontrelle, Over enthusiastic and all. Condition 1) He wears Teal Knee High Socks. He has to find a way to do it. Or keep his ass in the big apple.
October 18, 200620 yr Thrilledge for Willis heads up? :lol :lol :lol Why dont we throw Cabrera in too to make it an even more ridiculous move? :|
October 18, 200620 yr No way Milledge gets the job done. And to be honest, I wouldn't even want him. Maybe if they were offering Endy Chavez & 2/3s of their Bullpen, it would be worth considering.
October 18, 200620 yr Even if Milledge was worth it I don't expect our front office to just deal him for one player. If Dontrelle is dealt it'll be to a team that ships us a handful of prospects. The Mets don't have enough pieces to trade to us PERIOD! I don't think we'd do it even if they offered Phil Humber and Milledge!

Getting Milledge on the Marlins means Willis on the Mets and that can't happen. The only thing holding the Mets back is that their young talent is already at the big club, and really, their best players (Delgado, Beltran, Glavine, Pedro, Wagner) are all in decline and will be out of their primes by the time that Reyes and Wright reach theirs. Couple that with the Mets minor league cupboards being bare, and well, their "dynasty" doesn't look so scary. The last thing in the world we need to do is help out a division rival get the one thing they need to become a machine. In a vacuum, I'd probably do the Dontrelle for Milledge and Pelfrey trade, but in the division, no way do I do that, or think we should.

Personally I would much rather have chris young from Arizona if I was gonna move Willis I doubt him and Dontrelle would get into conflict, MAYBE olsen, but I agree with you that I would rather deal trelle to a team like Arizona that actually has decent prospects and not over hyped players that look clueless in the majors.
October 18, 200620 yr Even if it wasn't in the division, Milledge's value is nowhere near Dontrelle's. Any trade that involves giving up Willis better get us help in both of our weakpoints (a CF and some bullpen arms). And Milledge hasn't even shown himself to be that good in the corner OF spots.
October 18, 200620 yr it would certinaly have to be more. plus we have the luxury of waiting until mid-season when Train's suitors will want him even more...and Ive got a good feeling he'll have a much better year in 2007 with a better defense behind him.
October 18, 200620 yr Theres a lot of young stud CFs ou there on teams with better farm systems.. absolutely no reason to trade DTrain within the division... especially the Mets for christsakes

I'd be hesitant to trade him to the Mets, but if he's made avaliable and they have the best deal on the table, you gotta pull the trigger.

Agreed MLB rumour.com is as accurate as a Ouije Board well maybe not quite as accurate :mischief2 If the Marlins trade the D-Train to the Mutts they would be regretting it for a long, long, very long time
