Gary Sheffield

Featured Replies

Anyone else out there think Sheffield is a pretty attractive option for the Marlins? He only has a 1yr deal for 13M...He's publicly stated he wouldnt be happy anywhere but the Yanks...but he has also said that his time w/the Fish was one of the best times in his career...it would put a few butts in the seats, provide some protection for Miggy and might only cost us 2 mid-level pitching prospects...plus if somehow the team tanks next year, we could move him at the trade deadline to a contender...any thoughts????

hell no. the marlins would never pay 13 million for anybody, let alone a injury-prone veteran.

He's also said that he won't be happy with on a 1-year contract. He's asking for an extension worth a lot of money.

Pass.

He is not worth it at this point in his career and he wants a multi year contract which will mean more money than we can provide for him. Great player and talent but not sure about his price tag.

I dont think its a bad idea... The Yanks will eat more than half.. If we dont have to give anything up as far as a top proscpect I'll do it for a middle level pros

- Wants an extension

- Primadonna

- Can't play CF

Did I miss anything? Pass.

I agree with Juanky but for a moment it's fun to close your eyes and imagine opening day...

"Ladies and Gentlemen, your 2007 Florida Marlins rightfielder...Gary (huge ovation, thunder claps from beyond centerfield)...Shef (pounding, screaming, people giving him a standing ovation as he runs out of the dugout)..field".

Of course by May 1st he's in a cast...but in the moment...it would rival the introductions opening day 2004.

I'll pass. There are many better things to do with $13 million over a year. Like using the money towards getting D-Train or Cabrera under contract.

Or better yet, use it to get some decent relief pitching.

I agree with this guy.

i love ya sheff, thanks for 97...awesome memories that i will never forget...but you played for the braves and yankees...thanks...but no thanks...maybe you will go into the hall as a marlin someday and that would be sweet...but no thanks...and good luck

And in the bottom of the first - "Now batting - number eleven - Gary Sheffield"

Cue Darth Vader's theme - "DA DA DA - DA DA DUM DA DA DUM.........."

People are forgetting that he's not really injury prone. What he had this year was a freak injury and for the most part, he's played through a lot of injuries that would have sent a lot of our players to the bench *cough* Hermida *cough*.

For the last two years, he barely had a left shoulder, yet he played through it and was insanely productive.

The reason he sat this year for the extended time that he did was that he was pissed off at the Yankees. Cashman promised him in spring training that he'd pick up his option by opening day, he didn't. Sheff's explanation was that it was his last chance to hit free agency, if the Yankees couldn't show him the respect he deserved (which, let's be honest, he did since he was their best player in 2004 and parts of 2005) he wasn't going to risk his future for them.

I'm not saying he's right, but I understand where he's coming from.

I'd do it, move Willy to 1st, Hermida to left, move Jacobs and pitching for a centerfielder and start thinking playoffs in 2007.

I wouldn't mind this if not for the price tag. We still need money to bring in some bullpen help.

while we're at it, lets give Sorian that 7 year 119 million deal and trade for Pavano and his 10 million a year. Then we'd be set. Also, I think AJ Burnett would be a good option for our new ace, we could just give them our whole minor leagues system.
