December 6, 200718 yr It was revealed on Wednesday night that the team was exploring a trade for former Marlin Wes Helms. A popular veteran on Florida's 2006 squad, Helms signed a two-year contract with the Phillies after that season. He is owed $2.15 million for 2008, and Philadelphia is looking to move him. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...7&fext=.jsp
December 6, 200718 yr To take over for Boone, sure. Didn't Olsen and Helms have problems this season though?

December 6, 200718 yr to start at 3B? ehh... Take him over Boone I guess. Still a position you have to fill down the road.
December 6, 200718 yr $2.15 mil is too much for Loria :| It really doesn't matter who plays 3b for the Marlins in '08. They'll likely lose 90-100 games regardless. Maybe even more than 100
December 6, 200718 yr Pass. Likely cost more than what he is worth and I would much rather have Andy Marte or Ian Stewart
December 6, 200718 yr If the Marlins do, in fact, trade for Wes Helms and we end up paying him the $2.15 million, then 1/6 of our payroll will be spent on a guy who would be a backup on most Major League clubs. :lol

December 6, 200718 yr Wes Helms, the Marlins 2006 backup inflielder/pinch hitter extraordinairre I loved. Wes Helms as starting 2008 3B I will curse from Opening Day till September.

Sure, but only if you first explain to me why you think a team that lost 91 games LAST year who just traded away .320/.401/34/119 and has a projected ace of Rick Vandenhurk wouldn't lose more than 100 games.
December 6, 200718 yr lol, ok, realistically speaking, Vandenhurk won't really be the ace , but considering the fact that any pitcher the Marlins would make their ace would be a 4th or 5th starter on any other team tells you that they'll lose 100 +

I personally think someone who will surprise alot of people is Scott Olsen. I see him lowering his BB and raising his K's. Wouldn't be at all surprised to see him at below 3.75.

They won't lose 100, just how they didn't in 2006. The pitching is better and Hanley, Hermida, Hammer, Uggla, and Jacobs can all still hit baseballs. Plus a 3B and whatever Maybin brings if he starts for the team. The offense won't be dreadful. We're going to be OK. Don't worry. There is a very strong possibility they win more games next year if they fill out their last 3-4 roster spots with the right kind of players. We'll see what happens.

With Wiley behind him...This wouldn't surprise me at all. I think the kid learned some very valuable lessons last year as far as his maturity on and off the field. Personally, I have some high expectations for Trahern. A ground ball pitcher with other pitches is fun to watch and hard to hit successfully. Just go back in your memory to any time last year WE faced one.

December 6, 200718 yr I'd rather re-sign Boone and bring in someone else to compete with him for the job. I don't know if he can have the same production he had last season, but it's worth a $1 Million to find out. Worse case, he's our go-to bench bat.
December 6, 200718 yr Helms ...why bother ? and why would he want to come here ? we are rebuilding the rebuilding process no need for Loria lose even more money by obtaining a high salary player like helms
December 6, 200718 yr um guys.....did we forget about robby andino?? No, but we should. Exactly. Also, I'd rather resign Boone than give up any kind of talent for Helms.
