Josh Johnson This Season

Featured Replies

Was hoping someone could tell me how he looks and what you expect out of him this season? Is he fully recuperated? Does he have a chance to pitch 200 innings? Do you think his injury has a high chance of being re-aggravated?

Huge thanks to anyone who can provide some knowledge! :)

Not able to answer medical guesswork. If healthy all year his innings will be up there. Basically, this spring he has looked great and dominating. Only problem, he was forced to have his hair cut the other day by a Loria rule and Logan Kensing did the snipping. Not sure how much strength he will lose as a result of this.

Logan Kensing the Demon Barber of Roger Dean Stadium

^^^ Hint for whoever makes the game thread pictures ^^^

He should be a workhorse this season as he showed in the second half of '08. Will probably be one of the better 15-20 pitchers in baseball.

No.

He's good. But he's not even the best pitcher on his own staff.

You know how I was one of those saying he wasn't even the second best pitcher on the staff last season, but he most definitely has the ability to be the ace and one of the best pitchers in baseball.

I'm not saying he doesn't. I just think it speaks volumes as to how underrated Ricky Nolasco is.

I believe Ricky will also be one of the best in baseball this upcoming season, if he stays healthy.

I just also happen to believe JJ will be better.

Mark my words, Josh Johnson will be in the top 5 of NL Cy Young voting this year.

I wouldn't doubt it for a second.

I think in terms of pure stuff JJ is better but ricky has much better control than JJ and his stuff isn't bad either.

Ricky...JJ...Ricky...JJ...damnit, you guys make this so hard...can't I just pick both and be done with it?

Oh...wait, I can. I love this team.

If he stays healthy all season, it's possible.

I Know Ricky is awesome but JJ is the one pitcher that will give you a chance to win every time out. Not enough K's? How about 7 tonite in 5 solid innings?

And he said after the game he thought his timing was off lol

If told to pick between the two, I would take JJ.

The main difference between the two, is that Ricky has better control and JJ is better at limiting XBHs.

But the difference between their control is less than their ability to limit XBHs. JJ might not have Ricky's control, but it's still damn good.

JJ actually had a better FIP last year than Ricky did, by a lot. And it's barely worse than Ricky's FIP during his uber-stretch.

If Ricky pitches like he did during his stretch, than yeah he's better. But that's asking for a lot. It's basically asking for the best pitcher in baseball, for the second coming of a home-run prone Greg Maddux.

Johnson is going to go 30-2 this year, 260 innings, 300 K, and a .88 whip. He only loses because he gets matched up against Jamie Moyer twice and losses 1-0 complete games.
