June 4, 200917 yr well this was very fast. But as Rab said, Martinez has been sent down in the last 10 days, so it isn't him. Question is who do we have left that we can call up? lol 3 threads
June 4, 200917 yr Well, that was quick. How can they bring up him again. Is it the other Martinez? That would be my guess
June 4, 200917 yr Penn was supposed to be a high upside guy, but with as hopeless as he's been in the majors we have to take the risk at losing him and his supposed upside to waivers. I'd bet on Jeff Allison having a good career before him but we will see what happens. This is the right move to make though.
June 4, 200917 yr I couldn't help but feel sorry for Penn as he walked off the mound trying to hold back tears knowing his career was over and he'd be gone as soon as the game was over. It's an awful feeling to fail so miserably and by your own hand and so publicly. But that's what comes with the upside of being a major league ballplayer. I wonder if the Fish pick up Mike Koplove?

I always feel bad for those guys. I was feeling bad for Jorge Julio the other night and I didn't even know he was getting released after the game. Penn's career isn't necessarily over though. He's gonna end up in the minors somewhere and he'll have to work his way back. But maybe he can learn some things and get some more consistent work.

Wasn't Koplove in ST a couple of years ago?
June 4, 200917 yr I dont know if this is for real, but my brother said he heard on the radio that the Marlins were talking to washed up Glavine.

Wait, was he about to cry while walking off? I picked a bad time to go to target. Anybody have any proof? I feel bad for him. i liked him somewhat, would liek to see him end up in AAA and turn it around. Our turn it around on another MLB team this year.

He probably won't clear waivers, and if he does the Marlins are going to be thrilled to put him in AAA. He's 24. Look at Dan Meyer now at 26, turning 27. Look at the Nelson's of the world. Penn still has good stuff if he could ever figure out how to throw strikes. Far from end of his career.

I'd personally be for it if it meant sticking Andrew in AAA for the season. The guy has only pitched under 180 innings twice in his career, last year and in '94 (165 inn that year). I think he'd be good for us as a #5 starter. Guaranteed 6 innings, 3-4 runs per start. Could do a hell of a lot worse out of a #5 starter.

June 4, 200917 yr To me it looked like he was crying, his eyes were all red and he had his hat pulled down low. I used the future tense to be kind. But he was clearly shell-shocked.

Padres don't have room for him with all of their out of option guys. Only other team I could think of that'd even try would be Pitt.
June 4, 200917 yr I hope penn clears waivers, he's still got a shot to put it together being young. Wonder who comes up.
June 4, 200917 yr Vacente Padillia was put on waiver tonight But seriously we don't have many options Maybe Carlos Martinez, and The team website has Leroux on the mlb roster? I thought he was called down already. One scenario would be calling Ricky up early which we should try to avoid. Here's a list of possible pitchers we could call up. Koronka- has pithced well in N.O. and should be able to fit in the LR/MR role maybe even mop up Tim Wood- has been dominant with a .54 era in 16 IP Jarret Santos who pitched lights out in Jaxsonville and done o.k. in Nola so far. Carlos Martinez- already has expirience and why not he might not even pitch unless we are down big so we can keep him here til Cristhian Martinez's 10 day are up but that is ideal for all the pitchers.
June 4, 200917 yr Penn started out okay this season, then it sorta went downhill. Our pen, though, man, it has some high turnover.
