Add the Marlins to the long list of teams interested in the Indians' Mark DeRosa.The Marlins would use DeRosa at third base. Their OPS at the position ranks next-to-last in the National League, ahead of only the Reds, who have been without the injured Edwin Encarnacion for much of the season.

I know it's a long shot, but this guy would definitely make a world of difference. His contract was something like 13 million for 3 years (ending this season) but when he was traded from the Cubs to the Indians, the Cubs took a large chunk of the contract so we'd probably get him for a reasonable price.

 

He's hitting .273 with 13 HR, 50 RBI's and 43 Runs. He'd make a solid #5-6 hitter, I'd think. According to Yahoo Sports, he's well above the league average in all 3B categories, except for BA, where he's slightly above, and steals which he has 0. It's a huge step above Bonifacio who seems to be below the league average in everything except for stolen base. (we're talking American league, though.)

While DeRosa is a cool player, we have a 3B upgrade that won't cost us an arm and a leg to get... and within the organization, no less. Fact is, we're a .500 team with the worst starting 3B in MLB in our lineup, getting a considerable amount of ABs... ANY upgrade will be significant

getting derosa would be huge but do we have the pitching prospects the indians would want (west is untouchable).

Mark DeRosa is exactly the type of player this team could use. Unfortunately he fits that for many other teams to so the bid to get him will probably be pretty high. I doubt Beinfest and Co are willing to give up a whole lot for what would essentially be a rental.

I think DeRosa would be a fantastic acquisition for us. Obviously he would be playing 3B primarily, but he can also play 2B and both corner OF spots.

I figure your talking about gaby. I'd perfer derosa over him as he can play Inf and OF. Plus he's a proven player. Your right though just about anything would be an upgrade over boni. I'm interested to see what happens if maybin gets called up. We'd have a good amount of options for the Inf or we could trade one of our OF.

Why would you choose our top prospect at the position where we have the least depth? They can't afford to trade this guy, unless they are absolutely convinced that Gaby can be "the answer" at 3B, and even then they probably can't afford to.

Gaby is free. So, I'm not really so excited about the idea that Derosa can play multiple positions. I'm quite fine with our positional versatility.

Yeah the sad part is that it's true and his all is not enough.

I think people underestimate the fact that even a LEAGUE AVERAGE 3B is such a significant upgrade, that there's no reason to go crazy after a mid-season rental if we don't have to. Obviously, going from like... Boner to an Evan Longoria would be astronomical, but we don't need a Longoria, we need average numbers.

Some people are in love with their own players too much. I always thought Dominguez wouldn't hit enough to be a pro. I can't see Dominguez ever being a better pro than DeRosa is and I've seen Matt play alot.

 

You don't ruin a chance at making the playoffs with a solid pitching staff by not trading an overrated prospect.

Don't make this trade. I like DeRosa too but what we should do is shift Coghlan to 2B, call up Gaby, and trade Uggla for a closer. He playing a little better now so we might be able to get something better for him. Keep Lindstrom around in the pen for awhile to make adjustments or send him down. Our starting pitching is starting to be really good now and our middle relief pitchers have been decent. We need that "closer" now. If Lindstrom gets better, fine. Play him in the 8th or something. Remember Looper and Urbina? I'm seeing the same thing happening here.

It's not about whether he's overrated. If he merely projects to an extremely average ML 3B, it's probably still a bad idea for the Marlins to trade him. They have no legitimate 3B prospecs in the pipelines as I understand it.

 

Also, what about my post made you think I'm "in love" with my own player too much? He's still the top prospect at 3B. For someone who seems to feel he is such a brilliant writer, a little reading wouldn't kill you.
