Mark Buehrle has thrown a perfect game

Featured Replies

So...Buehrle is 30 years old with 132 wins under his belt. He's averaged 15 wins a year in his first 9 seasons.

He has 168 to go to get to 300.

Obviously, the 300 mark is extremely tough to reach, especially in this day and age. It takes some luck and extreme consistency to reach. But Buehrle has never really been mentioned in the same class as some of the others when it comes to the 300 win conversation (or at least I haven't heard his name).

EDIT...I don't think he'll reach it, I don't know if anyone ever will. But I think he's been under the radar in his career. The highest he's ever finished for the Cy Young is 5th. If he stays healthy he have quite a few career wins when it's all said and done.

We'll probably never know as he's said that he's leaning towards walking away from the game after 2011 when his contract is up.

I believe he's considering it more than leaning toward it.

For his next trick, he will throw a perfect perfect game, where he strikes out 27 batters in a row.

Then after that he'll throw a perfect perfect perfect game, where he strikes out 27 batters on 81 pitches [3 pitches per batter].

then after that, he'll throw a perfect perfect perfect game AND hit for the cycle.

When I first read this title I couldn't believe it. I had some friends over and they didn't share my excitement (understandably one is barely a fan and the other isn't at all).

This was a very important moment in Baseball history (along with all the other Perfect Games), but more importantly it is because it's the first one I've actually seen since following Baseball!

First ever Perfect Game where the catcher first caught for the winning pitcher.

Incredible indeed....

What more can the guy want? He can retire and die happy now!

He's a pitcher in the AL league.

Interleague play.

that's why it will be such a neat trick.

i saw the game live on thursday, and i didn't like it. i admit, i wanted that perfect game broken up all the way to the last out, and i was a bit frustrated when it happened, but i tip my cap to a great game pitched by mr. buehrle. i've seen two perfect games in my life, both of them i hated because they were pitched against teams i like. i want to see one perfect game where my stomach is in knots hoping that it happens.

I'm guessing the other one was Randy Johnson against the Braves?

Just leave.

Now.

Forever.

This is a historical performance. I don't care who it is, if someone's throwing a perfect game, I want them to have it, even if it was Santana or Hamels pitching against the Marlins.

Whoah against the marlins?? Yeah right dude I'd rather we win than they get a perfect game, what kind of fan are you?

A Baseball fan.

yup. it's not that i hate a perfect game, i just don't want it happening at the expense of my team getting embarrassed. i tip my cap to the pitchers that throw perfect games, it's a remarkable accomplishment that few have obtained, i just don't cheer for them during the game if my team is the one getting perfectoed, especially if the team still has a chance to win the game.

So you were rooting for Kershaw this year when he took a no-no into the 8th against us?

I said "perfect game" not no-hitter. =P

So let me get this straight. A guy has a perfect game in the 7th or something, and we're down by three.

You're not rooting for a comeback by the marlins, you're rooting for a perfect game by the opposing pitcher

Baseball is unlike any sport in that history tends to take precedence.

In the 7th inning of a could-be perfect game, of course you should want your team to win, but by like, the 8th... you should be at the point where you think "Ok, well, we've been no-hit so far... might as well just get it over with" and by the 9th, you should simply be excited just to see history happen...

See, losing in a game where you only score one run and have a couple hits is just another loss... losing a one hitter is just getting beat... but at least a no-hitter/perfect game made the game worth watching, moreso than any other loss.

I'm sorry man I guess we don't feel the same way.

I would never just stop wanting to win because the guy was pitching a perfect game in the eighth and I don't feel that anyone with any true competitive spirit would either.

It has nothing to do with competitive spirit. Yeah, the team is going to try to get that hit. But in terms of a game... which will you remember watching... the one hitter where we got a bloop hit in the 8th inning, or the perfect game where the pitcher just made history.

But, I'm glad you know what "true" competitive spirit is. It's not about not wanting to win, it's about witnessing history and the context of the game makes that history all the more vivid.

I understand the history aspect, but what I'd rather win that game to give our team a better chance of getting into the playoffs and making history, instead of hoping we lose so an opposing pitcher can make history and we miss the playoffs by one game.

Chances are, if you missed the playoffs by one game, you never really "deserved" to go see: Mets, New York
