unacceptable. we have to beat the sh*tty teams to stay in the race and make the playoffs

The Nats have actually been playing pretty well lately. 10-6 in their last 16.

this was a brutal game and totally unexpected of JJ. MUST take the next two games and get out heads out of our asses with RISP.

were 4 out of the wild card.....cannot let it slip anymore.

Tough loss, even tougher with philly losing... But hey the Nats are playing much better ball, we get he next 2, Ill forget about this one, we don't then there will be problems...

I just don't think this team is a true contender...

I know we have plenty of weak spots in our team but I'm curious as to why you think this.

I actually stated in the trade deadline thread that if I was Beinfest, I wouldn't have made a trade. Fortunately, we didn't have to give up much for Nick Johnson...a player I've always been a fan of.

Anyways, back to the point.

I still see major flaws in this team.

We have a questionable 4th starter.

I still don't trust Vanden Hurk, at all. He pitched well against a really weak SD lineup in a great pitcher's park, gave us a 5 inning performance in LA (which I still think he got a bit fortunate in), and dominated ATL (but ATL is a team he's always owned, for some reason).

We also don't even know who our 5th starter is.

Granted, most teams backend of the rotation is nothing to brag about, but it's not as bad as the situation we have right now. I'm afraid that those 2 spots are going to lack giving us innings, which will, somewhat, tire out the pen, as well, over the course of the year (and right now...we don't have our long reliever to eat those innings, either...Sanches has done an admirable job, but Hopper is much better suited for that role b/c he has more experience as a starter/giving innings).

Also...it's August.

I'm unsure whether or not our lineup is going to start meeting expectations.

To be honest...that's the only way we will make the playoffs, imo. Uggla and Hermida have to start performing to expectations, and Jorge Cantu, imo, needs to start producing some HR power, again. I think this team still needs a power bat.

As for the playoffs...I'd actually say we'd be better suited for the playoffs than the regular season, at this point. You don't need your 4th and 5th starters, in the playoffs. In a short series (if we were to get there), we'd be tough, considering the fact that JJ has been one of the more consistent pitchers in baseball, and Nolasco is back to pitching very well, again. Volstad can match up against opponents #3's, and capable of giving quality starts, as well. And our pen (with the starters giving innings) is a good pen, as has been seen. Pretty deep, too.

I agree with most of what you wrote but I have a bit more confidence in Vandenhurk. He went through two very tough lineups with the Dodgers and Braves. I hope he has the same success against the Nats tomorrow because we really need the win.

With the 5th starter, I think Craig said that Anibal would be ready in about 2 to 3 weeks. Not very inspiring since it will be that long without a 5th starter and that Anibal has been shaky but hopefully we'll have a definite stater.

What concerns me most is what has been our issue most of the season, our lack of situational hitting.

Carroll went 2-4, HR, 2R in AAA today!

replace hermida.

So you can call for his head after he sucks it up, no thanks.

*looks at manny and how we were 6 minutes away fro mgetting him trading bust hermida without giving stanton damn you movie critic sampson*

What are you talking about? Stanton was of course part of the deal.

during this years trade deadline sampson revealed to dan that the fish were 6 minutes away getting manny w/o giving up stanton in the deal

That isn't true at all and you know that. You better show a link or you are obviously talking out of your ass. It is actually common knowlege that the Marlins said no because the Red Sox wouldn't trade Manny without Stanton being in the deal.

i heard what iheard so i dont bull ****, if you believe me or not i could care less. im just sharing something sampson told dan leb during this years trade deadline....lmao common knowledge? ok peter gammons

Look up your sources and get back to me, because apparently you have absolutely no sources to back up a damn thing you say.

I heard the same exact thing, so ease off.

You really truly are a f***ing a-hole.

And what went down in the 8th inning?

I was out fishing on the boat and my mother called me to tell me the Marlins were up 3 to 0.

Then I had my friend check on his blackberry and it was 4 to 2 in the 8th.

Then he checked again and said final 4 to 6.

I figured Lindstrom came in the 8th and screwed it up, or Ayala.

But I see someone said Lindstrom didn't pitch. lol

The whole Manny thing was supposedly a 3 team deal, at the end of the day...and the Pirates (who would've received Hermida...I think) ended up rejecting. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's what it was (at least that was the final rumor...99.9% sure).

Nats got 4 hits off of JJ...3 singles, and a 2 run 2B.

JJ leaves the game 4-2, runners on 2nd & 3rd, 0 outs.

Pinto comes in to face Nyjer Morgan.

Groundball to 2B...4-3 now. Runner at 3rd, 1 out.

Kiko in, Pinto out.

Cristian Guzman singles with the infield in. 4-4.

Kiko gets Willingham to pop out. 2 outs.

Meyer in (to face Adam Dunn), Kiko out.

Adam Dunn 2 run HR. 6-4 Nats.

Meyer got Elijah Dukes (the next batter) to end the inning. Worth mentioning b/c Dukes vomited on the field, in the middle of his AB.

You are correct, but this whole argument is useless.

It didn't happen, and it was a season ago.

Who the hell even dreamed that if that deal was done, Manny would still be here in 2009?

This guy is just such an ass that it's incredible.

How is he going to tell someone that they didn't hear something on the radio.

When multiple other people on here also heard it.

Take it for what it's worth (nothing), but don't bash the guy for stating something that he did indeed hear on the radio.

I actually heard that too. Initially, many thought that Hermida was the main guy going to Boston...later on in the day, however, that seemed to change.

You're right, though...Manny wouldn't be here in '09, anyways.

Yep. And Manny would have jumped at the chance to play here this year for about $2 mil. Heck, he would have signed for 6 years at about that rate just to be in South Florida with all these knowledgable fans and play in front of 15 K every night.

Damn you Sampson!!!

And the fact that Craig interviews one of their players after this pisses me off even more. :banghead

Funny thing is, I get the same feeling every time I see that guy. Dosen't matter who he is interviewing or talking about.

Ernesto, you are quoting the same guy who said the Marlins phones were dead silent the day before the deadline this year and that no deal was even close to being done. Again not even close to a reliable source.

Yea, I know...i didn't believe it when Sampson said it either but maybe the dude is actually telling the truth for once lol

So let me see if I have this right. He is telling the truth when it gives you an opportunity to do some FO bashing, but lieing through his teeth when he does things that can't be considered fair game to bash? Ya know, like helping to get us the stadium deal.

Not to beat a dead horse... That was a killer LOSS! To make matters worse the Rox won and now we are 4GB and 5GB in the div... I'll be back tonight RVH vs. Lannan, that could be two straight L's to Washington... WE NEED THIS ONE BADLY!

he most likely wouldn't have stayed, but it would have been nice at least for that part of the season. we might have gone to the playoffs and from there you never know....trading hermida for a chance at that seems pretty worth it to me.

That's right I believe. Herms was headed to Pittsburgh. For some reason and I can be completely wrong wasn't Ryan Tucker a part of this too, or at some point, or was that another proposed trade?

From what I understand, we were giving hermida, Stanton and coghlan in the one we rejected, and no Stanton in the one Pitt did. Tucker

may have been involved.

see it was true dim...lol he was being an @ss about it

You didn't give me any source, so basically you didn't prove a damn thing.

And I appreciate being called an asshole by ya'll, I try my best :D
