Marlins lose a close one in extras, 5-6.

Two things:

1)f*** Scott Rolen.

2)Coghlan is scaring me.

These bastards must have something against winning the first game of a series. Sheesh!

the Paulino at-bat was the killer. Needed to win it there in the 9th.

Offense continues to hum right along, even with Cogs having a quiet start, Uggla and Ross are picking it up now.

Anytime the starting pitchers would like to show up would be just fine.

Coghlan is trying to live up to high expectations, he needs to relax and just play. Also he sees to not be making solid contact with outside pitches like he did last season. He's going to better as the season progresses and we need him on base if we want to make it to the playoffs.

Come on guys, yesterday we were jumping up and down, tonight we are cursing them, we have to take the bad with the good.

I'm not worried about Coghlan; I think he will come around. However, I would like to see him dropped to the #8 spot until he settles in.

Reds has been always pounding us since 2006.

Here is the stat.

Fish vs. Reds

2009 : 3-3

2008 : 2-6

2007 : 3-4

2006 : 2-4

2005 : 4-2

Why can not we make a winning series against under .500 team?

It's weird.

I haven't looked up the W-L records, but my memory tells me that the Marlins have played surprisingly poorly against the Pirates in recent years.

Nolasco is worrying me very much

Volstad showed up and pitched great

CC looks absolutely lost at the plate. Hopefully he's starting slow.

I knew Coughlin would have a sophmore slump just hope its not to bad but its very early, I think he will do much better. I hope all these Nolasco home runs stop

BTW, Logan Morrison hit season first homer @ 7th.

Right now, he is single shy for cycle. Good.

Sad to see so few at the game . I am trying to not to overreact this early in the season buy Maybin whenever it is late expands the strike by 2 feet . I know Maybin is fast but I thought he was supposed to have some power as well I dont see that aspect in his game yet . Hopefully his inability to drive the ball will be overcome as he becomes more comfortable but his approach and poor pitch recognition concerns me .

This game is frustrating because its one of our better played games thus far. We've snuck away with some sloppy wins. Today our offense showed up, Ricky was fine overall, our bullpen was surprisingly decent, and our only error had no effect on the game. We certainly could have won this one, and just didnt. A little bit of a shame, On the other side of the field though, the Reds hung in and Scott Rolen was the animal today. Thanks to him, they "deserved" the win just as much. Just a good game that went the opponent's way. Sucks that we lost, but Id rather lose like this. We didn't exactly "hand them" the win as we've done other times before. Oh well, we need tomorrow for sure.

Ricky was fine overall??? giving up 3 home runs with the team losing in extra inns is not fine.

Why because he had 1 mediocre start?

his tendency to give up the long ball (like in spring) and he seems to be running out of gas at around 80 pitches... He'll be fine, I suppose

I'm not worried about Coghlan so much. He had a slow start when he came up in May so maybe that's just the deal with him. I saw that Mark Texeira wasn't doing too hot for the first 5-6 games either and I believe he's always been a slow starter.

We came into this season hoping for better starting pitching and defense. I'm not really sure if any of us expected it and we're not getting it. We may only be 8 games in, but I was hoping we wouldn't have to outslug and outhit every team in order to win like in the last few years. You can't keep up that level of intensity and/or luck for a whole season. I'd rather see quality starts and solid defense take us to victory rather then 7-6 ones, but I guess a win is a win however it comes.

The Rolen Home Runs though early in the game really hurt. The Pen tonight was a pleasant surprise. We are going to pay tommorow as many have said, with Pinto and Veras seeing action im sure. What else is there to say about Cantu. The one slip of the game was still not enough to overshadow his RBI dominance so far this year. He has been our most positively consistent player since opening day. Starting pitching so far seems to be kinda behind with a touch of acceptable. It will be an interesting day tommorow.

Being the Jersey freak that i am, It would be nice to see the Home pinstripes back after a few nights of Black Alternates.

I wasn't in the game thread, but no one seems to be cursing here...

Coghlan was killing it in AAA before we called him up in May. I don't think it's fair to label him a slow starter, but he's undoubtedly struggling mightily right now.

Cantu has been terrific, and the extra-base hits continue to come. This reminds me of last April; hopefully, he is not derailed by any injuries this year and he can OPS .800++.

Ross could of had the walk off BB, got a tad too aggressive and swung at ball 4.

Well, if you wanna look at it that way... Coghlan was killing in Spring Training this year. Either way... at the start of HIS MLB season in 2009 and 2010... he has been a slow starter. I still believe his numbers and contribution will be there at the end of the year. I can't say the same about the pitching though.

Ross grounded out instead of getting the GW RBI walk. At least the pen didn't lool awful

Tough loss... Had the chances to win..

If we can come back and win the next 3, its all good... :gofish
