Didn't win, oh well.

Still can win the series with a win tomorrow. Cantu two games in a row with a RBI and a hit. That's good.

Yet again it seems like we've got a lopsided matchup-- Livan's got a

Why does Freddy keep using Pinto with these meaningless lefty-lefty matchups? I rather have Cody up there with bases loaded!

JEEESH!!

sanches should have started the 8th and Johnson should have gone out in the 7th innings. But nope fredi decides using badenhop for two innings is better.

Even against the Giants badenhop was going into his 3rd inning in a tie game...fredi just doesnt know when to not push his luck ....not that burke is bad at all but in a tie game you know at one point the guy is gonna tire.

We were down by 1 with only 3 innings left, JJ had to be lifted for a PHer. I don't know if I would have gone with Hopper given his recent struggles (though he didn't really pitch all that badly) but we had to PH for JJ. Sadly it didn't pan out but as they say, you can't play the result.

Also, I completely agreed with his move to walk Zimmerman and bring in the lefty to face Dunn, though I wish we had a LOOGY so that we didn't have to bring in Pinto.

A lot of stupid things happened in this game, but I was a bit pissed that Petersen wasn't standing on second base in the 9th inning after that misthrow. That probably changed Wes Helms' entire approach in his AB.

Thank you!! I thought I was the only one to notice this. He had more than enough time to make it to second.

The first three innings with the Marlins getting their lead-off man on base in the inning and it then going nowhere pissed me off. You have a young pitcher on the mound going up against our Ace and it was really a great time to put pressure on him.

The last start of JJ's was against Washington and he wasn't good in the first few innings, he went down a couple of runs, but the Marlins got the lead back and he then became very sharp. This time around, JJ was looking good in the first 2-3 innings, but the run support didn't happen. Even though JJ is no rookie, it's still calming to be pitching with a lead. We then lost the lead and as the innings progressed, they were hitting the ball hard off JJ... even when it was right at somebody to make an out. I don't believe he struck anyone out after the 2nd inning or very few anyway. I had no issue with him coming out of the game after 6 innings.

In 2008, there was all this talk about "You can't rely on the 3 run homer all the time" and yet.... we had two of them in Game 1 vs. the Giants... we lost the game. Today we had a nicely timed 2 run shot from Sanchez to take a 4-3 lead and... 5 minutes later, it was blown and gone.

There was this stat the other day that we were something like 9-2 in games where we scored first. Well... all I know is that the Giants scored first in all three of the games in that series and they swept us. The Nationals scored first in Game 2 and they won.

This has been a frustrating start to the season, but it's still early and I can only hope it gets better. I don't want another 2005 on our hands where we just never got that winning streak going. In that season, we didn't sweep a team until the very last series of the season... against the Braves, who had already made the playoffs and were setting up their post-season rotation.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems a little disconcerting that the marlins haven't attempted more steals.

Its because every single player capable of stealing bases is simply not getting on base.

Those early stranded runners absolutely lost us this game. Having two straight innings where you had a runner on 2nd and failed to get him in is unacceptable.

Exactly. Maybin and Coghlan were supposed to be our table setters, but thanks to their struggles we've had to change that, subbing in guys like Petersen and Carroll.

I think the reason for this is the players. The only guys we have who can steal bases at all are Hanley, Maybin, and CC.

Maybin and CC are never on base and, as Boni taught us, it's hard to steal when you can't get to first.

Hanley doesn't steal as much these days, mainly because he doesn't slide headfirst due to his shoulder and that slows him down.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems a little disconcerting that the marlins haven't attempted more steals.

Obviously not counting HanRam.

I was mad that the umpire didn't say something about Dunn not moving on that pitch, and even MORE angry that Fredi just sat there like it didn't happen.

Don't the rules say you HAVE to make an effort to get out of the way?

As much as I think Bonifacio sucks at life, the team could really use him over seem of these guys like Lamb or Barden. The Marlins have had some close games in late innings and a pinch runner capable of stealing a base could have been useful.

As of now Hanley has something like 2 steals......do you think his days of 20-30 steals a year are done?

Rule 6.08(b)(2)6.08 The batter becomes a runner and is entitled to first base without liability to be put out (provided he advances to and touches first base) when— He is touched by a pitched ball which he is not attempting to hit unless (1) The ball is in the strike zone when it touches the batter, or (2) The batter makes no attempt to avoid being touched by the ball

That rule is very rarely enforced though, which kinda sucks.

Well, Lamb's gone but I think at this point I'm fine with Barden over Boni. Barden's got good speed and I don't know if I really want Boni trying to force himself on the bases when we're trying to rally. Boni's pretty good at running the bases when the ball's in play (and damn fast too) but he had 21 SB with 17 CS+PO. You don't want to risk killing a rally like that. Plus Barden has a good edge on him defensively.

The reason we lost today is the same reason we've lost at least half our losses to date - giving the opposing team extra outs and opportunities to score that were unnecessary and avoidable.

Remember the old A-Hole of the game poll? Yeh well Pinto would get my vote

Should I bring it back?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!

Right or wrong, if this continues, Stanton will be called up and Fredi will be fired. More of a we need a spark than Fredi doing something wrong imo. If Jack Mckeon feels up to it i think that would be awesome.

Moves id make soon, HUnter Jones down, Meyer Activated. Vandenhurk up and into the bullpen if Leroux doesnt get better.

Also, Maybin or Coghlan to AAA and Stanton up here. We just need a spark. Its may and im already not feeling a sense to need to watch this team everyday like i always have.

I wouldnt mind a lineup like this by the beginning of june

Cogs/ Maybin

Gaby/Baker

Hanley

Cantu

Uggla

Stanton

COdy

Gaby or paulino

Pitcher

Also, we need to acquire a lefty bullpen arm. Thats just something you NEED to have. When the reds fall out we need to try to get Arthur back. Loved that guy/end long post.

O and 1 more thing, as good as the hopper has been, he should not be used for the 8th. He needs to be a long reliever that gets big outs. SOmething like 2 innings every few days, but not late innings. Somehing like the 6th and 7th.

Edit- O and 1 more thing, haha. Why is Brian Barden on this team? As wierd as it is sayig this, we need emilio on the bench. His speed is actually very useful off the bench as well as his versatility.

Dunn was 2-16 career against Pinto, so I didn't hate that.

Dunn made me flippin' angry as heck.

I also agree about Petersen; I have no idea where his brain was.

Also agree with what 03 said about the extra outs........very frustrating. It's funny that we've also made a lot of spectacular plays (like Cantu's DP today), but we continue to struggle with the seemingly rudimentary ones.
