Marlins/Uggla Begin Contract Extension Talks

Featured Replies

Yeah at this point just offer the guy 4 years/44-50 MM.

He's done more then enough to earn that kind of money.

That is how much it is going to take too

If you'd asked me a year and a half ago if we should spend this kind of paper on Uggla I would have blown a gasket. But I've never seen someone improve this way. He is absolutely worth every penny. But it only makes sense for the Marlins IF AND ONLY if the Marlins dedicate themselves to defense at 3B and C.

A year and a half ago he came off a season where his OPS was .008 points lower.

This.

Uggla has been deserving of this kind of contract for a couple of years now and the fact that he his hitting for a solid average along with the high OBP and SLG it puts it over the top that we should pay him that big money contract.

When it comes to calling up Dominguez and moving Coghlan all I have to say is we'll cross that bridge when we get their but we need to do a couple of things within the players in the organization for next season.

Resign Uggla, Move Coghlan to 3rd, callup Maybin to be the everyday centerfielder, call up Ceda, drop/trade/release Helms, trade Cody (it pains me so much even typing those words).

As long as Danny, and his agent, are reasonable people I see no reason why the Marlins can't lock him in for a couple more years. I just hope he doesn't forget he was rescued from the flames by the Marlins in a Rule V draft

That's a great way of putting it. Right now, we're in a good situation where we have to much talent. Eventually, someone will be moved for starting pitching. Most likely Uggla by the time Dominguez is ready. So I'm guessing we give Uggla a 4 year contract, then trade him when the time is right.

Also, Uggla's OPS is .896. Second highest among all 2nd baseman. And he has a 3.8 WAR, 4th highest in baseball.

Somehow people easily forget just how good Uggla is. They would remember if this team ever had to replace his offense.

We all know about Uggla's power and ability to drive in over 90 runs, but the most impressive thing for me has been his .285 (approx) batting average this year, up 30 or 40 points on some past year.

You should be in charge of the FO.

When you have a player like this, you do what you have to to resign him. I'd really only trade him for a Madison Bumgarner/Jeremy Hellickson type-of-deal, to be honest. And I doubt we get that from anybody, so I think we should keep him for now.

Didn't Uggla change agents recently? If Uggla is truly serious in how much he loves playing here and wants to stay, he and his agent will have to play ball with us and not go overboard when it comes to talking dollars. He's definitely earned a good sized contract, but he should also remember that he's not Hanley or JJ.

The front office shouldnt try to low-ball him though. Offering him anything less than 3 years/$35 Million would just be an insult to him.

Yeah I'm getting into sportsmanagement and law in college. If only I could find the money to buy the team...

I'm doing Accounting and Economics in college and would also like to own this team. Lets form a group of buyers!

I don't get why some act as if Dominguez is right on track to be in the bigs soon. He hasn't dominated any league except for the Sally and his K/BB were still alarming. I know he's young, but he still has a long way to go if you ask me.

He is still showing great power for his age, as well as a great glove. No one is saying that he's out starting 3B next year or 2012, but he still is progressing where he should be.

Yes you can! Heck I'd be willing to take whoever on this board who's willing to make an investment (and can be a reasonable option to be in the position) and have them as a part of my F.O.!
