April 22, 201115 yr My money is on a cruise line getting it, but it's probably going to end up being something completely unexpected. My list of candidates, influenced by several, written the other day on another forum: Bacardi Publix Carnival NCL Suntrust Burger King JetBlue (my dream ) If it's a .com domain name I'll hate it. Same goes for Banco Popular.
April 23, 201115 yr Publix made a 1 dollar jump in stock prices this last quarter. For a privately held grocery store to do that, they have to be doing something right. Especially with the economy how it is and the increase in Wal mart grocery stores and the even cheaper Aldi grocery stores moving in.

April 23, 201115 yr When I was at the sales headquarters they mentioned they were in talks with Buffalo wild wings. Heard of them. Never been to one.
April 23, 201115 yr :lol It's always good when someone without a clue just wades right in and promptly sinks out of sight.
April 23, 201115 yr When I was at the sales headquarters they mentioned they were in talks with Buffalo wild wings. Heard of them. Never been to one. I went and had a rather annoying experience. We went to watch some UFC crap and we had to order like 20 bucks worth of food per person per hour to stay, and i didn't even like UFC. We cut a deal with the waiter to let us stay in return for a giant ass tip. I felt like I was being threatened...
April 23, 201115 yr The stock is evaluated by a private organization whose methodology is not explicitly released AFAIK. That may be true but its profits and sales grew from year to year. Its not like they said, now our stock is worth 30 dollars a share. They are still audited and have to play by the SEC rules.
April 24, 201115 yr I wouldn't mind these in this order: Simply Orange Bowl *a nod to the past* Bacardi Park Burger King Ballpark

April 24, 201115 yr Wow, I never thought i'd figure out how publix evaluated it's stock by reading a marlins baseball forum. You find all kinds on the internet i swear. I think Presidente beer should get the naming rights, it's so damn good, but i know that'll never happen. Buffalo wild wings sucks. I've been there twice the wings sucked; they were tiny...and the bones were pretty black which from my BOH experience suggests alot of hardcore freezing. Sauce on them was pretty generic too. The whole experience was generic. If that's going to be one of the restaurants they put in/around the new stadium i'm going to have a fit. There's plenty of culinary talent in Miami/SoFla and as much as a strip mall filled with big box stores reminds me fondly of home; I'd like to see something unique.
April 24, 201115 yr I work for Publix so I'm privy to this info(well not really, my previous store manager happened to mention it during a benefits meeting, otherwise I'd have no idea either). The way Publix stock is evaluated changed. It used to be based on their performance alone. But now its based on how they AND their competitors are performing, which is asinine. Especially since some of who is considered our competitors aren't actually our competitors(IMO at least, but I don't actually know what officially constitutes a supermarket competitor other than other supermarkets). How is a drug store a competitor to a supermarket? I don't even see how Wal-Mart and Target are Publix competitors. They're more department stores than supermarkets. I don't know when the evaluation method changed. I think in the 80's. According to my previous store manager, Publix stock would be over 100 dollars a share now if it was evaluated using the old method and would not have gone down during the crash a few years ago either. More funny stuff from another financial illiterate. Anyone who sells groceries is a competitor. The question is the competitive mix and how it changes over time. Publix is privately owned. Only its employees (mostly through the employee stock ownership plan) and board members can hold shares. There is no public trading and thus no stock price set by any market of willing buyers and sellers. Shares can only be sold back to Publix (and must be sold upon termination of employment) at the ESOP price. The ESOP price is set by their ESOP accountants/consultants who basically apply an S&P500-like (Publix is a big outfit and would no doubt be part of the S&P500 if it were publicly-traded) PE multiple (~13) to earnings. Might the multiple that's used be adjusted slowly over the years to reflect the valuations of a slowly evolving set of competitors? Absolutely. That's been the case for 30 years. It's the case with all ESOPs. $1.70 * 12.294 = $20.90. Which is an approximation, a guesstimate of value, somewhat arbitrary and pretty much useless except for the purpose of transacting employee purchases and sales. They have to have a price, so they make one up. It's required by the terms of the ESOP. It may or may not bear much of a relationship to reality. Is there anything "asinine" about it? No. Would the price be "over $100" under some imaginary "old method?" Totally laughable. Wouldn't have gone down? Equally laughable considering that the ESOP earnings-set price did in fact go down when earnings went down. Your previous store manager doesn't have clue one. Would I pay even $20.90 per share for Publix? Nope. Do I want them to buy the stadium naming rights? Who buys them doesn't matter in the least to me. What's important is that the Marlins extract the maximum amount possible from whoever buys the rights, regardless of who it is.

Really takes the "bar" out of sports bar. I do know that bars that serve food have to sell a certain % of food to alcohol (if I remember correctly that's just if they serve alcohol harder than beer and wine) and could be one reason why they do that, but this seems to be WAY out of line. A Duffy's just seems to fit what they have building up to. They even had the Holiday Party at one last December. I would have to assume that if it's not a Duffy's then they did try and couldn't work out the right deal.

They have it at Dolphin Mall, and it gets really packed. Supposedly they only do it for PPV's and playoff games (people flock to it during PPV's) but it's kind of insulting to sit down and then be given some stupid terms after you're paying to sit there.
April 25, 201115 yr I love Buffalo Wild Wings. Their Mango Habanero sauce is the greatest things to happen to wings since the city of Buffalo. I generally buy a bottle for the house.

Because of the mixed reviews here, guess I ought to see if there is one in our area and try it out. Just in case. But, to me at least, a mix between a bar and a restaurant is the very definition of a sports bar. I agree with the insulting comment. Being told that, I would probably get up and leave while reminding them that there is another sports bar right down the street. 2 people, 3 hour game, $20 per person per hour, and then plus drinks and tip? No sports bar is that good.
