Posted November 10, 201113 yr According to Rafael Rojas of Viva Colorado, Wilson Ramos has been kidnapped in Venezuela. Viva Colorado is a bilingual news source connected to the Denver Post. There isn't much more information available at the moment, only that Ramos was taken from his home in the town of Maracay. More to come. RotoWorld.com
November 10, 201113 yr By Evan Brunell Nationals catcher Wilson Ramos has been kidnapped, the Denver Post's bilingual website, VivaColorado.com, reports, with other media sources corroborating the news. According to El Nacional, Ramos was approached by four gunmen outside his home and taken away. A source said that the kidnappers have yet to contact the family. Ramos hails from Venezuela, where there is a significant problem with kidnapping. Generally, these crimes are for money and Ramos was a logical target, given that his success in the majors earned him the right to a league-minimum contract, which was $414,500 in 2011. That's a lot of money to most people, especially in Venezuela. The 24-year-old just completed his rookie season with Washington, hitting .267/.334/.445 in 435 plate appearances, slugging 15 homers. The righty supplanted Ivan Rodriguez as the starting catcher early on and is expected to start at catcher next season. WTF
November 10, 201113 yr I think it's fair to say it isn't smart to live in Venezuela when you're a rich athlete.
November 10, 201113 yr I think it's fair to say it isn't smart to live in Venezuela when you're a rich athlete. Venezuela......f***
November 10, 201113 yr If I were a MLB player from Venezuela I'd strongly consider not going back during the off-season... or at the very least have a ton of security around you. I know Miggy has a sizeable security crew down there.
November 10, 201113 yr There's a reason Urbina is locked up down there, he wasn't taking any chances with anyone after his mom got kidnapped, of course he went too far but.....
November 10, 201113 yr Really hope they can find him and get him home safely. Maybe not his house home but you know.
November 11, 201113 yr in VZ there's also a census, and if you tell the gov. that X number of rooms are empty in your elderly mothers house, Chavez is likely to plug those rooms with complete strangers and essentially take your house away from you.
November 11, 201113 yr Are Anibal and Infante back home or in Miami? Guessing the latter for todays events?
November 12, 201113 yr It is official: Per @rafaelrojasc Internal affairs minister has called Ramos family & told him they've got him. Wilson Ramos has been freed Yay!
November 12, 201113 yr I genuinely don't think his life was ever in danger, to be honest. They go after high profile people for ransom and ransom only. They'd only kill him if somebody with money said no. In which case, the only way he'd end up dead is if it was a sting gone wrong.
November 12, 201113 yr all I've read is that the Venezuelan PD rescued him. you think they killed the f***ers who kidnapped him?
November 12, 201113 yr Well I'd imagine the only two possibilities are that they either immediately met the demands to ensure his safety or they immediately took up arms for a high profile case and took them all down. The latter would totally be awesome though. Ramos is gonna write a book one day :lol
