July 23, 201214 yr Marlins get Detroit's compensatory first rounder as well. This keeps getting better.
July 23, 201214 yr Author JIM BOWDEN @JimBowdenESPNxm Tigers deal to win now.......pay the price later......Turner and Brantly will make them pay a price later.....Marlins win trade long term This is going to be a really good deal. Love this. Brantly this year in his first year at AA before he got promoted to AAA recently he was hitting .311 with an .820 OPS
July 23, 201214 yr not bad. Anibal was gone most likely after the season anyway. You (possibly) stick Turner right into the rotation to replace Anibal and see how he does. Or AAA for remainder of season? Guess they'll decide if he's ready. Brantley's number are sort of all over the place but he's certainly better than Skipworth so that does a lot for our depth. Maybe even slot right into the backup role next season.
July 23, 201214 yr Flynn doesn't seem to be that good, WHIP near 1.5 right now and an ERA just under 4 in A+/AA. Maybe with some work ... Brantley seems decent behind the plate.
July 23, 201214 yr Author So to review the Marlins got their 2nd and 3rd prospects along with a 7th rounder from last year
July 23, 201214 yr I'm still afraid of Detroit "prospects". Me too. Well the difference this time is that we aren't sending a Miguel Cabrera to Detroit.
July 23, 201214 yr So to review the Marlins got their 2nd and 3rd prospects along with a 7th rounder from last year And according to MarlinsLou, their compensatory first round pick? Or did I misunderstand?
July 23, 201214 yr So to review the Marlins got their 2nd and 3rd prospects along with a 7th rounder from last year And according to MarlinsLou, their compensatory first round pick? Or did I misunderstand? We swapped our compensatory with theirs, ultimately getting a higher pick. That's my understanding.
July 23, 201214 yr I'm not sure if anibal for turner would have worked. I guess infante needed to be included. At the start of this year I thought Omar was with us for the long haul.
July 23, 201214 yr Author hopefully we make a couple more deals. build for the future or at least build for another good free agency.
July 23, 201214 yr I'm not too thrilled about getting a C with a minor league OPS of 714 ? He's not even the centerpiece, and that's not bad for a catcher. He killed it in AA as a 22-year-old this year, which is actually not at all old for a catcher.
July 23, 201214 yr This would only be a fire sale if we get rid of Lomo, Reyes, Stanton and maybe JJ. Ah, who am I kidding. Its the Marlins so any trade is automatically a firesale.
July 23, 201214 yr Anyone care to fill me in on turner # 22 prospect baseball entering year. Projects to be a 2/3, reasonable mid projection a dependable 3. 21 years old, probably needs AAA this year and MLB ready next year. He's going to look great with Fernandez long term. This is very exciting heck, Fernandez, Turner, Conley, James, add in promising lower level guys like Brice, Urena, Heany, Lowell.... That's some pretty good depth, if even 3 pan out well.
July 23, 201214 yr Solid catcher that progressed nicely to AA this year and was not ready for AAA, top pitching prospect, throw-in possible bullpen arm, draft pick for a guy headed for free agency and redundant player. Good trade all around.
July 23, 201214 yr Oh, and Rob Brantly's a better catching prospect than Realmuto. He moves to the future starting catcher role. Add in a compensatory pick, and right now I love this trade. Love it. Actually, strike that. I think Realmuto and Brantly are gonna have to fight for that spot. Their about equal right now imo.
July 23, 201214 yr I see jj and Hanley gone for sure now. Bell idk if any team would want him as a throw in
July 23, 201214 yr ESPN saying JJ being looked at by Boston http://espn.go.com/boston/mlb/story/_/id/8192033/source-miami-marlins-josh-johnson-anibal-sanchez-draw-interest-boston-red-sox
