July 23, 201214 yr holy smokes if they trade Hanley... I hope they move him. It's time. Trading him now would be a bad move, IMO.
July 23, 201214 yr Say we are trading JJ and/or Hanley ... OK, say we are trading both. Any chance we could trade them together to Arizona for Upton and maybe a pitching prospect or two? Sorry, just curious on thoughts on this. Why the heck would Arizona want Hanley Ramirez for Upton? I said AND JJ. Not just Hanley.
July 23, 201214 yr Upton is going to require 3-4 prospects going to Arizona. I still don't understand the whole Hanley/Upton thing that continues to go on here...
July 23, 201214 yr Well.....here's to the good times that Anibel gave us!!!! Thanks and good luck Ani. Beyond that...I love this trade. I would like to see Hanley playing.....for another team. If we can work out a trade that packages him with someone else....I could live with that as long as the someone else wasn't Stanton.

Arizona is looking to replace him with affordable, young prospects, not older, expensive players.
July 23, 201214 yr holy smokes if they trade Hanley... I hope they move him. It's time. Trading him now would be a bad move, IMO. Not really. They won't get any more in the offseason.

July 23, 201214 yr I would like to hang onto JJ. Hanley I'm sort of ambivalent about, I guess I still hold out some awful hope that he's going to get it together again...

You don't trade him then, either. Trading him when his value is the lowest is a bad move. He will turn it around. When he does, you trade him. Edit: He could finish these last two months hot. If he does, you'll get more in the off season than you would now.

Why would they trade him in the offseason? It'd be better to trade him now, but I think the FO wants to move him because of his under-performance and the likely possibility that another team expects Hanley to benefit from a change of scenery. I've been a Hanley supporter, but as long as the Marlins are making a committed effort to shed some salary, I'd welcome a Hanley trade.

Right now he can be reasonably expected to be a malcontent who would benefit from a change of scenery. If you wait until next year only to have him struggle again--which is pretty likely--his value will only diminish further. And it's not like he's showing any signs of putting together a solid August/September. To say his value is at it's lowest right now is silly.
July 23, 201214 yr I love this. I wish we could trade just about the entire roster if they were deals like this. With the exception of G. Stanton and L. Morrison. I really didn't like the way the Marlins went about last off-season in the first place. Don't get me wrong, I was excited; but it felt very yankee-esqe. I really enjoy young, budding stars. I realize that to win you've got to have more than prospects and young talent, but again, I really enjoy thinking about the future as well. I've been a Marlins fan since before their first game, so maybe that says a lot about why I enjoy "future" prospects....
July 23, 201214 yr Who is looking to add hanley, and who would be willing to give our huge asking price?
July 23, 201214 yr @ El Penguino His value is at it's lowest because he's not hitting well or fielding well. His OPS is at .750, which is the lowest of his career when starting the entire season. You can only get so much back by playing the change of scenery card. Teams are going to look at his salary and production and will refuse to give up much. You compare what we could get back to what we will and it's no question his value is at its lowest. I disagree that he's likely to struggle again next season. Right now he's suffering from a low BABIP. His other advanced numbers are in line with his career averages or close to it except for his BABIP, which is at .273. His career BABIP is .333. He may not be a .950 OPS hitter again but he sure as hell isn't a .750 OPS hitter.
July 23, 201214 yr Even if a trade gives the franchise some monetary relief.....I'm inclined to give the front office the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise in their time in the new park. For now, I trust that even if they shed salary via trades now, they'll pony up when the team is playoff ready. This team clearly isn't ready this year.
July 23, 201214 yr Pretty happy with this. Keep rebuilding the farm system and building around Buehrle, Reyes, Stanton, Boni and LoMo. Everyone else is expendable.
July 23, 201214 yr Took squall's suggestion, made an account. This trade needed to be done. Team is going nowhere this season, so might as well get something from Anibal before he becomes a freeagent. Sorry to see Infante go, i liked the way he played, specially defensively. However, by himself, he is no game changers. Now, it only remains to be seen if the prospects pan out, something the Marlins have a pretty crappy record on. As far as Hanley, trade his lazy azz. Don't give me the "bad decision, his value is low now." Hanley was supposedly "motivated" this season to prove his critics wrong, and not even that was enough to make him work a little bit harder to get better. He won't return to that player he once was, he is too lazy, and every year that passes by without Marlins trading him is just another year removed from when he was valuable. Cut your loses while you still can.
July 23, 201214 yr Who is looking to add hanley, and who would be willing to give our huge asking price? It takes two to tango and I can't really think of any team besides Bos. Plus there's this from Heymen. One general manager doesn’t know where he’d play Hanley Ramirez on defense. "He's not a third baseman, he's not a shortstop anymore. I wouldn't know where to hide him," the GM told Heyman.
